Authentic, delicious, and friendly -- Avesta is a must-try for Turkish food lovers. The décor is warm and inviting, and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like family. Don't leave without trying their kunefe -- it's the best in Montreal!"
I'm so glad that I tried out this restaurant. Truth be told, I was walking back and forth on St. Catherine's because there were so many restaurant options. I hesitated because it looked busy from the outside and I assumed there would be a long wait. Plus I rarely have Turkish cuisine so I was wary of trying it again. I'm thankful I tried anyway! The restaurant is actually fairly spacious! You can't see all the tables from the window. Service is quick. I didn't have to wait long. Furthermore, the waitress and the manager were very receptive of my crazy requests like orderingextra inegol kofte! You may want to try the beef and parsley gozleme. There is an older lady near the front of the restaurant that is making the Flatbread by hand! I tried it and it was filling. Not my favorite, to be honest, but it was warm and crispy! Personally, I preferred the kofte. It smelled a lot better and it was a substantial meaty entree! I'd recommend this and I this this is Avesta's specialty. It can get lively at this restaurant so you may have to speak up louder so the staff can hear you. Nice staff, but it's hard to hear or understand each other well sometimes. They serve cold drinks and you can order beer or wine. If you go to a Turkish restaurant, however you have to try the coffee! I like the taste. I appreciate that they served it with sweet ginger candies. The coffee's presentation was on point! Pleasant overall experience and recommended!
This place was recommended to me by my uber driver and i'm so glad I got to visit! This was my first time trying Turkish food and can promise that it won't be my last. I abs LOVED the decor of this place and the plating of everything was *chefs kiss.* For our appetizers, we got the 3 mezzes which allows you to choose any 3 apps for $20. So we went with the hummus (which was some of the BEST i've ever had -- the olive oil was amazing) Cacik (which was basc like tzatziki) and then börek (feta cheese and spinach app). The portions at this place are huge so be mindful if you're like me and your eyes are bigger than your stomach. For an entree, i got the Tavuk Kebab which was chicken skewers and i'm honestly still thinking about that chicken. It was cooked to perfection and extremely tender and while I normally don't eat chicken with some type of sauce, it was seasoned so well that you didn't need any. My friend got the Inegöl Köfte which she said was a little okay. She said the lamb packed flavor but she wished there was a sauce to accompany it. I honestly wish that my stomach was bigger so that we could've tried their desserts as our waitress said it's one of the best things here. Next time i'm in Montréal, i'll be sure to return!
A wonderful Turkish restaurant with amazing meals that's let down by subpar appetizers. This Turkish restaurant is located in downtown Montreal between Chomedy & Fort. If you're hungry and want a filling Turkish meal, it's a must to get the Manti, an absolutely delicious, and for me personally, star dish of this restaurant! The appetizers could have been a bit better which brought the rating down. Keep an eye out for the lady in the window making fresh pita or fresh manti dough! I appreciate the fact that this restaurant does not over salt their food, there is room for you to salt it to your preference. Sarma- this was the best of the appetizers we ordered. These are vine leaves that were stuffed with rice and beef and topped with garlic yogurt sauce, and dollops of ground roasted red pepper in oil. There was nice tang from the yogurt and if the vines were stuffed a little bit more it would've been nicely sized too. I honestly didn't taste or feel a lot of meat so I guess that was more subtle. 4/5 Borek- please be aware that there are 2 types of borek: spinach & feta as well as ground beef and smashed potato. I only saw the ground beef and smashed potato on the menu but I just didn't read it fully. They brought out the feta and spinach version because they were out of the ground beef. I would've preferred if the waitress had told me that in advance before bringing it out. I did not enjoy this appetizer actually because it was cold and dry. If it was fresh and hot, this probably could have had more potential. 2/5 Lahmajun/Lahmacun- this is pretty much a folded pizza if you had to compare it to something. It was made with fresh pita topped with herbs, spices, tomatoes, green peppers, onions and ground beef. Again this dish was lacking in the ground beef and maybe a bit of salt in the spice blend. This was a very soft dough also and I wish it had crisped up a little bit. But this could be the Turkish way when I'm used to the Armenian way, which is served more like an Italian pizza. 3.5/5 Sadj Kavurma- this was a very good meal. You can option it with either beef chicken or lamb. We got chicken. It was nicely seasoned, served on a nice sadj plate with bulgur and salad on the side. Bulgur is a different grain, comparable to rice or couscous. That was nicely seasoned with a good tang as well. I recommend you try this with the fresh made pita as va well! 4.5/5 Inegol Kufte- another great meal! Beef Pattie's that were so juicy, it was easy to digest. Add a little bit of salt and it's taken to another level. It's served with rice mixed with chickpeas and roasted peppers and kale salad in a light vinaigrette on the side. 4.5/5 Manti- the star of the show! If you like ravioli that are miniature and round in side, with a good chew that's wrapped in garlic yogurt and spices, dolloped with crushed roasted red pepper in oil, this is the dish for you! It's my go to dish here and one of my favorite dishes ever. A must try!! 5/5 Kunefe- the dessert that's a must to get as well. Angel hair grains fried in butter on top of a melty cheese, drenched in simple syrup and butter and topped with ground pistachios. This is a middle eastern dish to absolutely try! 5/5 Coffee & tea- served in mini Turkish dishes, the tea was floral in flavour and the coffee was strong and pretty much equivalent to a shot of espresso. Both delicious. The tea came with the meal but the coffee was extra. It came with a Turkish delight (the coffee) but it was a honey flavored jelly delight vs what I tend to prefer (a nougat style one). 4/5
A nice date night restaurant. The décor and mood lighting give off the perfect vibe. Ordered the The gozleme with beef and pasley, that tasted kind of like a pratha and tourtiere, and the spinach and feta one, that tasted like spinach in flaky flatbread. It was so so good! Service is a bit slow but the food is definitely worth it! Prices vary depending on what you order. They have some lunch specials which are cheap.
Been here a few times, and would go again. The food is very good (especially the beyti kebab), but prices are a bit high. It's a nice quiet place to enjoy a good meal.
This was my first time at a Turkish restaurant and definitely an experience to remember! We ordered the Sarma as a started - definitely a refreshing dish and a palette cleanser. As main dishes, we ordered the Manti and Chicken Kebab. Generally, the food was exquisite and quite refreshing! Not too heavy but hearty! Though the food itself was great, we found them to be quite pricey (8$+ for 4 pieces of Sarma!!) - and the service could have definitely been a little more welcoming! But overall, a great place for a nice, quiet date.
Had a great experience. Very delicious food with good customer service. Nice ambiance as well.
Yelpers didn't let us down, as this was an excellent and more polished but still family-style restaurant that elevates itself from funky hole in the wall to special occasion place through a combination of excellent service and ambiance. We had a nice bonus - a seat where we could watch bread being prepared in the front window. The house specialty, the leg of lamb, was quite substantial and delicious, although it showed ever so slightly the effects of reheating after having been in a long stew. There are kebabs and turkish meat cakes for the less adventurous (like the kids) that were still unusual and quite tasty. The farina cake was unusual and delicious. And, they do have wine available, including in demi-litres, at decent prices. The service did slow down when the customers started coming in later -- there seemed to be only one server -- so one probably should temper one's expectations if arriving later during the dinner hour.
This is very authentic Turkish place but ti was too expensive for me. I was here a couple months back and was drawn to dine here because of the old ladies making fresh flat bread. The portion was too small for three guys from New Jersey. But, the food was very good.
We ordered the Beyti Kebab, it had Lamb and Beef Kebab Skewers wrapped around their house bread, topped with a tomato sauce. The meal came with rice, grilled vegetables and a house salad. The food was excellent. We have been to Turkey several times and found the food here to be very authentic tasting. Service was very good as well. Overall had a great experience!! Definitely coming here again soon!
First visit after passing by several times and watched the lady preparing breads in the front of the restaurant. Tried the Inegol Kofte ( a kind of meatballs) the taste was awesome. The rice was spot on and the vegetables were really good, not boring salad at all. I want to return to try another Persian specialties. The staff is nice, service was good.
Delicious food, good service, and a nice atmosphere make this restaurant a great place to visit for Turkish food. We enjoyed several mezze dishes, lahmacun "pizzas", and dessert with tea. The apps/mezze dishes were a hit as well as the dessert. That lahmacun was good overall. We're planning to be back to dry the kebabs. The fresh bread makes a huge difference and this place does it well! read more

Food are delicious! A slight taste difference from what we get right in Turkey! But still okay ! The tantuni tasted pretty different from the genuine ones in MERSIN ! Shout out to the signature Kunefe ， so cheesy, so delicious , but sweeter though . The overall environment is cozy and friendly . I liked the Turkish style decorations , Türkiye cay , and the background music! Thanks so much for this pleasant experience . Tessekur ederiz!!!:)) read more

Ordered Iskender. It was good; however, the meat was not prepared in traditional Turkish way. The ambiance was very authentic. Service was fast. A lady was making Turkish dumplings in the store, which was very cool! read more

Avesta serves Turkish delicacies. The ambience is so so but the food is good and reasonably priced. They make freah turkish breads and you can even wathc it while they are being made. Do order the turkish coffee or tea at the end. I really like the way it is served. The service is good. I go there for causal dinings, though if it had a little more luxurious ambience, I would make it my favorite business dining place too! read more

It was the coldest night in Montreal! We were looking for a desert spot when I recalled I once dined here. This was way much better an experience. Baklava and Kunafa. OMG that was yummy. Sweeeet but when swallowed with a pot of Turkish tea it feels just right. I did not expect it but besides Turkish music which I like there came few Persian music tracks that rang many bells and brought up many good memories. Like it! I'll visit more! One more thing is the girls waiting the table. Nice, polite and much faster than we last dined here. read more

This was the 3rd time I visited Avesta. I enjoy the mezes offered here, I had 3 choices to myself and it was more than enough. I took the eggplant, hummus and yogurt with cucumber. The food was fresh and flavorful. I had my meal with a cup of Turkish tea. Food 4.5/5 The customer service is why I give this place 3 Stars. The woman who sat and served me was not welcoming. There was a table of 4 and another table of 2 people during my visit. Although, the service was extremely slow to order, get the food and pay at the end. The server was more hospitable to the other guests. I'm curious to try the kebabs or other dishes one day. Service 2/5 read more

The restaurant is famous by the lady who's making fresh thin bread in a traditional Turkish/Arabic way. She can be easily seen just walking by the restaurant. The mezza is a famous starter/appetizer and you get to make 3 or 4 different chooses. For the main dish we shared Manti which is basically dumplings in yogourt that can be lamb/chicken/beef. Our second choice was sadj which is lamb small pieces with tomato and onion. They keep serving bread from the lady who's making it fresh. read more

I have passed by this resto so many times. Always enjoyed looking at the lady who is always rolling the dough so thin. Today, finally, I came to eat lunch with my sisters. We were welcomed with big smile. Our server was really sweet and helpful. Our food was outmost delicious. The wait for the food was a bit too long, since it was one server. The decor is very beautiful and vibrant. Turkish background music was delightful but got interrupted by a bang by the rolling dough lady when she dropped some pots; she killed the vibe a bit. Overall, recommended! read more

They make delicious bread and appetizers were good. The food quality was low. We ordered fillet mignon and chicken skewers, and Iskender kebab. The skewers came with rice, bread and salad. Iskender kebab came with salad and yoghurt. Skewers were very dry and didn't have any marinations. The were partially burnt and overall, low in quality and not tasty. The Iskender kebab was soaked in heavy tomato sauce and you barely could feel the real taste of meat. The service was quite mediocre; we went at 2-3 pm; which probably is not the best time to receive the best service. Finally, the food was very expensive for the portions and quality. We paid 100$ ( excluding tip) for 4 foods and one appetizer, which is too much for this place. I don't recommend; especially if you already are familiar with Mediterranean food taste. I see a lot of people just getting excited for the "exoticness" of the foods and getting high rates which are never through... it is getting difficult to just rely on the ratings form yelp... read more

I've been wanting to come here ever since i saw that woman making tortilla-like bread in the window! Me and my friend decided to eat here because we didn't know where else to go. We had both never eaten turkish food so this was an experience. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who seated us promptly and gave us the menu. After inspecting the menu items, we were both clueless! So i asked the waitress for some help. She was very kind and went through the menu with us. Everything seemed yummy. Very uncomplicated food where the spices and ingredients speak for themselves. We both had Gozleme; a panini like sandwich made with the lavash (tortilla like bread). You have different choices of fillings; i had beef and parsley and my friend had spicy spinach. It's made almost in front of you on the stove were the lady makes the lavash. The gozleme is served with a simple salad. I usually don't eat side salads but this one was yummy with its yogurt-like dressing and fresh parsley. My gozleme was really good.... it tasted like a tiny meat pie. I could taste the spices and enjoyed it greatly. To drink, i had turkish tea; it tastes like black tea but a little bit more bitter. It comes in a tiny glass and costs only $1. I loved it but i think its high in caffein. For dessert, my friend and i shared a baklava. Its actually 4 little baklavas so it was perfect to share. Very good and tastes home made. Overall, the food was amazing and came out to $13.50 with tip. Definitely going back. Go try turkish food. its really good! read more

This review is based on dining at weekday evening. The restaurant wasn't crowded as we expected. One lady was making gozleme right by the entrance which is impressive. The waitress who greeted us was very nice. Dining room looks nice too. The only thing I didn't like was table clothes. They are actually very beautiful piece but I don't think they change after every customer. That could be a hygiene problem. We started with red lentil soup, which was good. Then continue with sarma, also was good. We tried spinach gozleme and liked that too. My wife ordered inegol kofte for entree. That was so dry. I ordered beef saj kavurma, this was good. Ayran was incredible. We has revani for dessert, was okay. Even there are a few flaws, this restaurant deserves 5 stars. Overall, I enjoyed the food and was happy with service. read more
For sure, it is one of the best Turkish restaurants I have dined in Canada. I am a big fan of Beyti Kabab and here, you get one of the great ones! Turkish coffee and Baghlava are always a must in such restaurants and here, I additionally recommend their Kanafeh which is so goood, made there warm with its perfectly sweet taste and its fabulous texture! The serving staff is great too, prompt and friendly and very good at giving you suggestions. The ambience is fine, nice decor and enough rooms between tables. If like me, you happen to be in Montreal for a visit and are craving for Mediterranian/Turkish food, this is a very good choice to go as it is located in famous St. Catherine street, close to many tourist spots. read more

I passed in front of this restaurant for years, and always wanted to try it out. I loved watching the ladies preparing the dough and making the pita at the window. Finally got to try this place out and it is actually my first time trying Turkish food. The interior decor is cosy because of its warm color scheme. There was only one waitress but the restaurant is not super busy anyways. The menu is well explained, and they even have pictures reference on the last page for people who are not familiar with Turkish food like me. I ordered the borek in beef and pasley for appetizer, menemen, and gozleme with beef and pasley. - The borek in beef and pasley was really tasty. I thought the crust was going to be flaky but it is actually soft. - The menemen is actually similar to a typical Chinese dish, but it tastes a lot more sour and the persley adds more flavor. It comes with pieces of thin pita that are freshly made (the lady sat by the window and made the pita for us right after we ordered). The pita is super thin and soft. - The gozleme with beef and pasley tastes similar to the borek, the only difference is that the appetizer got a thicker crust. The gozleme also comes with a small salad. The dressing was really special: it was yogourt mixed with spices that tastes a bit like pesto. Super tasty in overall. We even got Turkish tea at the end and I wish I could add milk in it, I am sure it would have tasted great. It was not super pricey, the food was tasty. I will definitively come back! Their sandwiches look great too. read more

First time at a Turkish restaurant, and definetely not the last time! Me and my boyfriend always wanted to go to one, but we didn't know which one in Mtl, so because of the good reviews and photos, we chose Avesta. I absolutely loved this place ! The decor is casual and colourful. The prices were reasonable and the food quality was outstanding. We tried various items from the menu and all were fresh and full of flavour, the portion size is also generous (we were so full and satisfied when we left!). We had Lahmacun (flat bread covered in ground meat and spices) it was excellent ! We also had the Beyti kebab that comes with bread , rice , veggies and salad (this was outstanding -hands down the best kebab I've had in a long time ! So well cooked and tasty. Everything on the plate was perfection. It comes with fresh bread that is made daily - their bread maker is visible in the window working away to serve up this delicious item ! it was beyond delicious and fresh. For dessert we had kunefe (a must try at Avesta), it was so full of great texture and flavour without being too sweet or too heavy and pairs perfectly with their Turkish tea. The 4stars is because the staff while friendly was a little forgetful and we had to remind them more than once about things we ordered. However, This was an awesome meal and I loved every single bite - I can't wait to go back :) read more
Great and relaxing dinner on a Tuesday night! Atmosphere was calming and warm. The food was delicious but the house salad was a different kind of taste, not bad but not great. The hummus and freshly cooked bread were SO GOOD!! I highly recommend that as an appetizer. I ordered the byoti lamb (I'm probably not spelling it right, but the menu has pictures so when you see mine then you can match it there) and the flavor was excellent! My wife order the manti (ravioli) and she said it grew on her. She wasn't a big fan at first because the flavor was so different but then she enjoyed it. Very yogurty and a different kind of ravioli. Service was quick and overall this restaurant was a solid choice for a night out! read more
This place is perfection. The decor, turkish music, the kind staff and the delicious food is all on point. It is my go to place when I'm on St. Catherine and looking for a filling meal. Their kebabs are to die for! The seasoning is great and the rice is especially full of flavor. The chicken is also tasty. I especially enjoy having a spot of their tea after the big meal. The menu is affordable and service is great. Be sure to look around the restaurant at the beautiful photographs and paintings. It just adds to this calming atmosphere. read more
