Natas do ceu
Gabrielle L.

My boss recommended me this restaurant because he said it was one of his favorite restaurants in Montreal. If you like seafood or if you like Portuguese food this is the place for you! This i snot your typical Portuguese chicken restaurants so if you want that do not come here. I'm used to cheap eats Portuguese food but this was fine dining. On every table there was bread and a small serving of olives and cheese. I'm not used to getting free cheese with a meal. I loved it! The cheese was good! Not sure what kind it was but it was white and soft. Probably some Portuguese cheese. Our waiter recommended a bunch of plates for us to share. We had the grilled octopus, the Madeira shrimps, the mixed grilled seafood platter and the natas do cieu for dessert. The grilled octopus was cooked to perfection. The shrimps came in a creamy buttery sauce which was divine! The mixed grilled seafood platter contained lobster tails, shrimp and crayfish. The natas do ceu was not the typical custard tart that I am accustomed to. It was basically custard in a glass with crumbled graham crackers at the bottom. I like the original natas but this was good too! It was not what I expected! Overall the food was delicious and the service was great! The waiter gave us a shot made with almond liquor from Portugal. So nice! I will definitely come back and try the cataplana for 2 which is what my boss recommended. It is a typical seafood dish in Portugal. The way it was described to me it is a bit like paella but in a broth. The reason we didn't get it was because it was very big and we wouldn't be able to try multiple things. The cataplana is part of the table d'hote so it comes with soup/salad.

Acorda De Marisco

We went with a group of 12 people for dinner and everyone ordered something different. The Restaurant has very nice art work and a contemporary modern decor throughout. We ordered two plates of calamari and although it was very simple, it tasted good. They also served us three bread baskets served with side appetizers of olives, proscuintto, olive oil, slices of white goat cheese, and Portuguese beans. All of the dinner meals were large portions, with plenty of food served on the plate. I ordered the reasonably priced acorda de marisco (a seafood dish served with wet bread), and was pleasantly surprised with the abundant amount of seafood that was in my dish. It had garlicly clams, mussels, shrimp, and two very large prawns. There was more seafood than bread, which is the main reason I was surprised. Acorda is an aquired Portuguese taste. So if you don't like eating wet bread, then you may not enjoy this meal, but to be honest this was the very best acorda de marisco that I have ever eaten. For dessert I had the pear marinated in Porto wine, and it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this for dessert. Douro is probably the best kept Portuguese restaurant secret on St Laurent. We were very lucky to have the restaurant owner Mr Alves serve us personally, because he truly made our dinner a fantastic culinary experience.

I went here for a weekday lunch on a cold January day - by cold, I mean like -20C wind chill. Despite the bad weather, this place was open, warm and great food. There were lots of other patrons enjoying themselves. For lunch, there was a very limited menu: basically three starters and three entrees. Three of us had the tomato soup, which was my favorite part of the meal. It was not creamy, almost like a gazpacho, but warm. A perfect choice for a cold day! Our entree choices were grilled mahi mahi over mashed potatoes with veggies in them, charbroiled beef, and paella with seafood and chicken. Two of our group had the paella and two of us (including me) had the mahi. I am not a big paella fan and judging by the looks of the two entrees, I picked well. The fish was grilled perfectly and the mashed potatoes were unique with assorted veggies mixed into them. Service was good and I would definitely come back for dinner.

This is probably the best seafood restaurant in Montréal by far. The seafood stew was excellent, generous, with lobster, mussels, clamshell - the serving is for 2 but it is for 3 at least! . The soup stew is slightly spicy and very tasty. Service is quick fast and the place is packed. So a good recommended place for seafood in Little Italy.

Great Portuguese resto. I had the rabbit in wine sauce and it was excellent. All the tapas was great and really enjoyed their olive oil with the bread......really good.

It was the best "Authentic Portuguese" food we have ever eaten outside of my restaurant of course.

A true gem in the heart of Plateau-Mont-Royal (Portuguese Plateau)…read more We were 5 people for lunch during a busy weekend, Saint-Laurent Sidewalk Sale. Surprisingly inside, it wasn't. We showed up no reservation and they took us in right away. The waiter was super friendly and checked up on us regularly. There was a big group in the second section of the restaurant, but they weren't that loud for us to talk. The food was amazing. No issues with the chicken, pork, shrimps and steak. Everything was perfection. I would suggest anyone on a visit from anywhere, to try out this restaurant if you are in the heart of the Portugese Plateau.

The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.
