Of course I love RD and would recommend it to anyone, but this review is about today's personal experience. I'm not sure who was in charge at the Charlotte, NC location on 5/29, but y'all need to revisit who you're putting in certain roles. I was looking for baby back ribs that I usually buy here, but they were not on their usual shelf. I see 2 employees chatting, stood there for a bit, then excused myself to ask a question. I asked if it was fine to open a box of ribs to see if they were my usual 3-pack. The woman tells me they don't come in the 3-pack, only in the 2-pack that was on the shelf. I told her I've been coming there for years and I usually get them in threes. Her response "well, I'm the manager and I kinda know what I'm talking about." That took me back a step. I told her ok... but I do know this is where I buy them. At this point she obviously had mistaken me for an angry black woman, one of her employees or one of her children when she responded "ma'am, you don't have to be rude to me." The reason why I was taken aback, is I had approached her in my usual professional, corporate manner, as I do with everyone. I made her aware I was not being rude, I was just stating that I always get these ribs from this location, which probably made her assume I was challenging her. I was not, I was only disagreeing with her saying they don't carry them. She finally gave in to opening the box and (low and behold!) we find the 3-pack ribs in there. She then proceeds to tell me she had no idea they carried the 3-pack, as recently she has only seen the 2-pack there (I just did 2 large parties this month that included ribs and this is where I got them). All this explaining she was doing as I was thinking, but she's the manager and she knows all of the things, correct... (well, that's what she had just told me early on in the conversation) After learning she was incorrect, she poured on the niceties very thick, and said "have a good day" three times, but my "first impression" soul had already been wounded. Who puts rude lazy people at the customer service desk, it's like management does it on purpose, so you just leave instead of going up to the lady for help with your problem, questions or concerns.... Great selection of products though, you just have to put up with a few people who would rather be anywhere else, but there. People going in to buy are also working, we don't go in to load up heavy boxes onto our carts and into our cars for fun....we have business to stock up and people to feed. I dread coming to this location for any of my business needs. The poor service and level of unprofessionalism is mind blowing. If you want to see how not to run a business or establishment go to this restaurant depot location. The facility is dirty and the staff rarely even wear their masks correctly. Just left restaurant depot. While there, I could find one partial case of facial tissues. It was already open and there were a number of boxes that had been taken out. Each of the individual boxes had skewer numbers on them and since it was the only case it appeared they were for sale. Not wanting to take more than I needed because of the coronavirus, I took five small boxes. When I was checking out the cashier told me they could only be sold by the case. I told her that this was the only case left and it was already opened. Now this has happened occasionally in the past and it would be brought to the managers attention and the manager would price the individual item accordingly. I asked her if I might speak with the manager. She informed me that she was the manager. When I told her that other managers on those rare occasions when this happened to me discounted the package, she told me that was not true. So I said in disgust take the five boxes back, that I did not want to argue with her and then paid for my order. I spoke to another manager at the door as they were checking my ticket/receipt and I expressed my unhappiness about what had just happened. This manager named Donald told me there was nothing he could do about it. And if he sold those boxes of tissue to me he would lose his job. He also told me that these are unprecedented waters that we are in. It's pretty sad that a manager in an operation that grosses millions and millions of dollars per year cannot make a decision to sell a seven-year customer five loose boxers of facial tissue when no cases were available. I have to say I hate this place right off the bat. It's just an overall miserable shopping experience that it might leave you with PTSD if your weak. You'll be dodging forklifts and pallets. Left and right. So you better be on your toes. If you have a small kitchen this place will keep you going, however don't expect items to stay in stock forever. Here today gone tomorrow. This place is not only very disorganized but also lacks any kind of customer service in an epic way. They dont have gloves and now they dont have hair nets in stock and nobody knows when they will have again. All the handicap spots in front of store are occupied by people who dont want to walk to parking lot but also are not obviously handicapped. The employees dont look friendly nor approachable. The Restaurant Depot is run just like the communist grocery stores back in the old country. It's dirty, the lines are long, and you feel like you owe them for the privilege of shopping there. Mike, a disgruntled employee in the fish department, is the absolute worst. Not only is he rude, he's shady as hell. Come in Sunday..around 12:45 chantel is the front desk. Standing right there 15 minute not even said hi or hello. Seem like she is busy so I am ok with that. 5 minute later her co-worker came and they keep chatting and chatting. When she done I ask her for tempery permit. I hate this place but I am forced to occasionally shop here for things they do not have at the Chef Store or Sam's Club. There is so much wrong that I don't know where to start, the dirty entrance, the rude staff who actually run from you. The fact that if you ask where something is they will tell you anything right or wrong to get you to go away. The prices that are 15 to 25% higher then Chef Store or sam's club. The aisle are always blocked, the produce is never filled, the dry goods move constantly and the staff could not be ruder except for Chaquita , who I love. It seems that the managers change weekly and they all run away, the store has more then 150,000.00 a year in theft, if it weren't for the three things I can only get there I would never go. Absolutely the worst and most hazardous store I have ever been in! Aisles full of products on pallet! Pallet trucks zooming front an back, beeping and yelling , move or you're ok! Couldn't concentrate on purchasing while dodging trucks! Seafood dept half empty and employee was nasty when I asked about it! Wanted a smoked pork loin,only one in the case! Asked if I could open a box, employee said there was one in the case! Refused to open another box! Upon checkout, cashier had a spoonful of food in one hand and her cell in the other! Asked a manager for the stock number of those loins, he couldn't find it in a timely manner! Gave him my number and asked if he could call with the stock number, still waiting for the call! If you're in food business, you can visit this place for wholesale price with a membership showing you're in business. It's near the airport and there're always some special each month with special special at the beginning of the month. Customer service here is absolutely the worst. Cashiers will ring your order in wrong and not care if they knowingly overcharged you. I do feel bad for the staff because the customers are probably all egocentric, but that is the business model. This place has gone downhill since it opened. They are out of important products constantly and the customer service continues to get worse. They get really busy because it's good savings compared to traditional food distributors. The moment another concept like this opens I will take my business elsewhere. This store has the worst customer service I've ever seen from any major corporation. I went and complained to the manager about an employee and the manager literally said "so". Restaurant depot is a lot closer to me than the chef store in but I would drive further away just not come in the restaurant depot. All possible I tried to avoid the restaurant depot at all costs. Most of the employees there are not helpful and when you ask them for anything they act like you are bothering them. Corporate needs to train their management a lot better. read more

This I the worst place to shop wholesale. I have shopped here several times and each time was worst then the last. On several occasions I've purchased foods only to realize later that the packages had been damaged and the food/drinks had been exposed. Completely unsanitary. I had attempted to purchase a case of cups which ordinarily has 20, but the only case left of what I needed had 17, so it would stand to reason that I would receive a 15 % discount. But the manager Rachel had attempted to charge me per unit which was more expensive than me buying the case that was missing 3 cups. Everything is moved around on a weekly basis, no one on their enormous staff has any idea where anything is, there is absolutely no sense of organization, and for some reason back stock is never over the product displayed! And god forbid you're in a hurry because the cashiers all seem to be fast food rejects! I've never gotten in and out of this place in less than 45 min and that was just to grab a box of trash bags!
