Restaurace U Agamy is a gluten-free restaurant that appears to specialise in Czech cuisine in Prague. Suffering from coeliac disease and requiring a gluten-free diet, I was excited to check out this place which was a short Uber ride from my hotel.
The interior was dire. While the bar area was pleasant, the seating and tables were cheap and tacky. My table was also slightly sticky in the corner and cleanliness could have been improved overall.
After taking our order, the server brought a selection of bread and hummus. This was the only time I experienced this during my time in Prague. They ended up charging 90 CZK for this on the final bill, which was a little expensive as I did not order this and was not aware of a charge.
The hummus was tasty and fresh, but the bread was hard and inedible - It looked and tasted gluten-free!
I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel, and the portion size was a little small. I did find the chicken to be dry, so the lemon on the side was much needed and it did taste okay; this could have been because of how hungry I was.
I would presume based on how hot and dry the chicken was, it must have been microwaved, especially as it was put on a bed of stone-cold Viennese Potato Salad. The fact the chicken was THAT hot on potato salad which was ICE COLD puts no doubt in my mind. The potato salad did taste good though, but the dish just missed a hot side to make it complete.
I found the server to be quite rude. When my party had finished their food and I was still eating, he came over and attempted to clear the tables and get us to pay. The restaurant was not busy at all, with perhaps one other table. I felt rushed and like my presence and slow eating were a personal burden on him.
A lot of potential for sure, the food was reasonably priced but with rude service and microwaved food... there's much better in and around Czechia's wonderful capital for sure. 2* read more
