Where other companies told us to "tear it down and start over," he saw a way to restore and improve our garage -- saving time, money, and a lot of material from the landfill. The crew was awesome to work with: friendly, respectful, and happy to explain what they were doing along the way. Even with a few weather delays, the communication was excellent, and we always knew where things stood. In the end, we have a garage that's straight, strong, and looks like it's been part of our home forever. If you want a contractor who cares about the details, respects your budget, and genuinely enjoys the work -- call HyggeHus.

We have used them foe every element of our 1880s Victorian, from the porch to the patio to the kitchen, the bathrooms and the basement. Hygge's team shows up with better ideas, better processes and such deeply respected relationships with all their subcontractors that work gets done at the highest level of perfect every time, usually for less money and in less time than anybody else who is top can deliver. Trust is always key when you decide on a major or minor renovation. We always come back to the Hygge team. We have watched our friends and family members share our love for their work and their integrity, as Hygge have gone on to their homes to bring the magic! Only warning: your kitchen may end becoming an Instagram crush with thousands of likes and a few magazine spreads. (For real: this happened after our friends had Hygge do their historic kitchen!)

I called and was able to make an appointment to have the designer come out to my home. He took measurements and sketches and then never got back to me. He literally never called me back or anything. It makes me wonder why he even came out for a design consultation. Big waste of my time and having to take a day off!

Reed Okerstrom from North Star Remodeling is something else. Polite guy, has been a contractor for…read moreyears, but unfortunately a real crook. His sons are very good and considerate carpenters. He started out well with our kitchen and master suite remodel and even put up with the terrible situation Carol Karnes and Brian Simonson (Builders) from Rochester MN, left us with. We signed a very costly contract that specifically stated good quality subs from the Twin Cities. When the mechanical sub did not show up, he hired an unsuitable company in Rochester, MN (HIMEC) that we had interviewed previously and that we did not want. Nevertheless and not listening to our concerns, he proceeded with HIMEC. After that our life deteriorated. Small children, no kitchen no master bath, no master bedroom. He charged $26,000+ for cooling a 400 sq feet kitchen and in-floor heating of both, the bathroom and the kitchen. Very quickly, it became clear that HIMEC installed a greatly oversized unit (3 ton air handler and huge duct work) in the relatively small space without a heat loss/cooling calculation in place and other issues. Reed Okerstrom/North Star Remodeling stopped answering our e-mails and abandoned the remodeling site for nearly 2 months. The new sub is great (Mark Sims, from heating & cooling 2). Although the new bid was $11,000 less than the 1st one and although our contract states that North Star receives from us what the subs bid plus 15%, Reed Okerstrom tried to coerce us into paying an additional $5,500, which means he tried to pocket $16,500 !!! after not showing up on the job site for 2 months. It took more than 2 weeks to explain to him how unapproriate this was and legally very questionable. We explained all this to him and he was clearly embarrassed, stuttering, explaining that "money bleeds from one lien item into the next" etc. Yet - while I am writing this review, he sends me an additional "change order" over $7,000 for work not originally stated in our contract demanding a signature within 2 days and threatening that further delays will occur if not. Our feeligns range from disbelieve to disgust. Next thing, we know, he allowed his brother to wire our place during our absence without a city permit, without our knowledge, and without a signed contract and now demands money ($30,000?). Please also see my review for North Star Services Electric (Bret Okerstrom) outlining the situation. Will North Star Remolding implement a correction plan or continue to make up fictional invoices? Will Reed redeem himself? Or perhaps not? Stay tuned.

Since we bought our house in March, we have dealt with many contractors. Jose & Angela are by far…read morethe most professional and honest among all of them. They took care of a drywall+door installation and a bathroom fan replacement. Among the 4 contractors we contacted for this, they were the only ones showing up in person to provide a quote. The others only asked for pictures and provided quotes based on those. The quote from Jose & Angela was very reasonable. A couple of times, as it is often the case, the project required some extra costs due to the unforseen conditions of the door and the fan we purchased. Jose was very transparent in describing the reasons of the additional costs and updated our contract immediately both times. At each step we knew what we were paying for why. Based on our experience, this is not something to be taken for granted. The final job was absolutely high quality. Moreover, Jose and his team did all they could to minimize the impact of dust etc on the rest of the house. I am very happy we (somewhat randomly, via Angi) got to connect with them. They will certainly be our first choice for any future work on the house that falls within their expertise.

The garage roof is perfect at half the price of our first bid. After the garage project, we unfortunately found a problem with a roof truss on the house and had to get it fixed quickly. Again, Wonderwoman was responsive in evaluating the issue, gave us two different project scenarios and explained everything along the way. Big repair jobs are scary. You just don't know (and neither do they) what you are getting into until you begin the project. The fact that they walk you through it step by step, including contingencies and worst-case scenarios makes it a lot less scary. And their prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!!!

Wonderwoman came to the rescue! They were responsive, fit this job into their schedule, and picked up my new doors for me. The best part, however, was the installation. It took two days for both doors, but the precision and attention to detail just blew me away. They addressed issues, like a missing floorboard, that were not strictly part of the job but they clearly wanted my entryway to look perfect. And it does! They were true to the bid and the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend them. I can't wait to hire them again.
