OMG!!!! I feel like I shouldn't write more because a part of me doesn't want anyone else to know…read moreof this place, but.... We are a culinary tour company, and block out the entire property for a week at a time. This past week was the first of 2 this year (and 6 next year), so here goes.... If you have driven or boated the Amalfi Coast, you may not realize it, but you know this place. You probably even have photos of it. On the stretch of coast between Amalfi and Minori, there is a an unmistakeable castle-tower right on the water. The tour boats that pass by all point it out as a highlight... Jackie O stayed here, the King of Italy, etc. etc. etc. No matter how you view it, the place is breathtaking. But unless you have set foot on the property and seen it "behind the gates", *you-have-no-idea*. You approach from a very unassuming gate. You see the medieval tower behind it, and you think that is the attraction. But the second the gate opens and you step through it, you have just crossed over into wonderland. You are met by the bridge that crosses over to the towner, and on each side breathtaking villas and terraced gardens that go down to the sea. As you go down each level of steps, your camera shutter will go into overdrive, as every angle is like something out of a fairy-tale. As you continue down, you get to the swimming pool level, where the pool is built out over the sea. Unbelievable. Down more steps and you are right at the water, on a private dock, and it is simply hard to believe this place exists in the first place. It is the kind of place that once you enter, you just never want to leave. The Stay: This place is so amazing that if the rooms were awful, it wouldn't matter much. Still, they are not. The rooms are quite nice. Let me be clear, the rooms could be better, and they don't live up to the opulence of the rest of the property, but they are still quite nice. The property has twelve units. Some are full 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, and some are more "rooms" than apartments. All but two have amazing balconies overlooking a 180 degree view of the Amalfi Coast. Most are furnished with antiques that fit perfectly in this setting, and all are air conditioned. What makes the rooms "nice" and not "amazing" is the lack of fine details and the little touches that make a difference. They are a bit spartan, the pillows could be better, and the beds could be newer. Each room has a small flat screen television, but consider that the 3 bedroom apartment I was in had one in the den, and none in the bedrooms. But to be honest, it is not a place one would normally want to watch TV. I almost feel that if you put these rooms in a less stunning setting, they would have seemed much better, but the contrast with the heavenly property was clear. In other words, 4 Star rooms in a 10 Star villa. Internet here was lacking to be sure. It does not reach all of the rooms, and even when it does, it is very hit and miss. I found tethering my iPhone's data connection to my computer gave me faster and more reliable service. Food on the property may or may not exist depending on your situation. There is a kitchen (with the most stunning verandah you have ever seen), but I believe they only operate it for breakfast. In our case, since we took over the entire villa, we had other arrangements for food at the villa for our group. The Staff: Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful all the time. An absolute pleasure, to the point that I very much look forward to seeing them again when I return in September. Overall: I mentioned a few relative negatives, but I only did so in order to give a fully rounded review. I'll repeat" This place is so stunning, the minor negatives just don't matter. I would rather stay HERE than any 5 Star property I have ever seen.

I have been saving my 200th review for a place that holds a very special spot in my heart. B&B Mama…read moreRosa made me and my husband feel like VIP guests here, like we were an important part of their family. I absolutely love this bed and breakfast and will definitely stay here if we come back to Positano. This was by far the dreamiest place we have ever visited and we were so glad that we picked this as the longest leg of our honeymoon. Positano wins over Rome and Florence hands down. B&B Mama Rosa is located in the Montepertuso part of Positano and we reached the B&B via limo service from Naples, which, by the way, was the most beautiful car ride we have ever taken. Take Dramamine if you get sick in windy roads. The B&B is run by a local Italian family (Angelo and Melania--brother and sister duo who were the sweetest hosts ever) who lives just a few steps away. The B&B is basically a two bedroom and two bathroom home. Each room gets their very own bathroom and their own balcony and both are separated so that you can have your privacy. The balcony offers sweeping ocean and mountain views of Positano. Every morning we were served a continental style breakfast: freshly baked croissants, fruit, cheese, muffins, yogurt and most importantly, their amazing cappuccino. I could easily drink liters of that cappuccino if I had no self control. Angelo will also prepare a real Italian meal per your request. We had the best homemade Italian dinner ever. Everything was picked fresh from their organic garden and the ravioli and tagliatelle was made from scratch (check out the pictures I posted). Even the tomatoes they grew and used on the bruschetta was out of this world! I have never tasted anything like it. Everything was extremely clean: bedroom, dining room, kitchen, bathroom. The sheets smelled really fresh and clean. The balcony was my favorite place in the B&B. We left the French doors open to let the sea breeze in while we slept in the comfortable bed. Going to bed with a perfect view of the stars just made our honeymoon so much more romantic. The B&B was so much more nicer than the four star hotel we stayed at in Rome. Even the sheets at Mama Rosa were softer and you can tell it has higher thread count than the ones we slept in Rome! The B&B is a short bus ride away from the Path of the Gods and to the town of Positano. The bus stop is right in front so you don't have to venture far if you needed to go to the Path or if you wanted to go to the beach and enjoy the seaside restaurants. It's fun riding the bus because they drive really fast in those super narrow cliffs. Super exciting! Angelo is super knowledgeable and gave us tips on where to buy our bus tickets, as well as the times that the bus will show up at the stop in front. Fair warning: you have to climb over 200 steps to reach the B&B. Of course Angelo will help you bring your luggage up. He carried our gigantic luggage like the Incredible Hulk and he didn't even break a sweat! You can stop halfway through if you get winded and just look back and admire the amazing view of the ocean and cliff hanging town of Positano. I was huffing and puffing up the steps but it was sooooo worth it! Plus, Angelo treats you to cappuccino and snacks when you get to your room. Another positive note (and personal if I may add...) about this place: Angelo and Melania were sweet enough to call an ambulance for me. I had a medical emergency and had to go to the hospital ASAP. Angelo was kind enough to help the paramedics carry me down the steps and also arrange for a ride back to the B&B once we were done. It was truly a blessing that this family is caring enough to make sure our stay was comfortable, despite the medical emergency. When we got back from the hospital, Angelo and Melania made sure that we had everything we needed and that we were comfortable enough to resume our honeymoon. The next day, Melania came to check up on me which was extremely sweet and made me feel special. I even felt well enough to tackle the Path of the Gods. We stayed for two more nights after my short trip to the ER and they really made us feel right at home. Their customer service and well maintained B&B really made a huge difference for our honeymoon. We are truly thankful that we stayed at their place and hope that we can visit them again someday.

This has got to be one of the best places I have ever stayed. Driving down the Amalfi coast is an…read moreexperience in and of itself. We used a car service to get here, from the road you don't have anything like the view from the B&B. Angelo and his sister were amazing helping us carrying our Goliath sized bags up the dauntingly long steep stairway. Panting we arrived at the top of the stairs and the entry to the B&B (I honestly don't think I had even looked at the view, I was still trying to catch my breath) We were brought to our room which was immaculate with closets any woman would go crazy for. Then Angelo opened the doors out on to the balcony and invited us to sit down and have a glass of water. The view you get from these rooms is SPECTACULAR! There is no other way to put it!! Having the B&B a bit further out of town lets you see it and the coast in all of its glory. Cannot wait to explore the town below and find some amazing food!!

Location, location, upkeep…read more On top of the marina and bus stop, this little gem of a hotel is the place to be and see from. We had the attic room, which has its own private terrace with about the best views available from the lower half of the city. Other guests have a lowered shared balcony, and sweet window views. All guests have to climb six flights of steep stairs, but if you come here you're probably prepared to climb anyway. Issue with the attic room is it is truly an attic. 6' and above people will have a hard time fitting. Worth it I think. Large in other dimension people will have a squeeze getting up the attic stairs, and fitting in attic's shower. The shower is awesome though. A mini-phonebooth of high water pressure with drench, hand wand, and six body jet modes. Perfect for cleansing after Amalfi Coast hikes. Hair dryer provided also very powerful for a hotel. Room gets dirty and shows it very easily. Problematic was the nonfunctional AC unit (wasn't overbearing yet in May as can get nice breeze, and you're not there mid-day anyway). We slept with door open. Felt more than safe, plus the waves and birds are so soothing. Also many outlets and switches are dead. Bit mildewy. WiFi is advertised as common area, and is weak in room. Does work on attic's private terrace and that balcony. Breakfast changes a bit day-to-day, good. Fresh from the maker soft mozzarella and mapled? skinny weinnies are standouts. The fresh baked sugar croissants are as good as can be found anywhere, really. Lastly, you will wake up at 7 AM. This is a town issue as all the churches have a cadence, with the Duomo's going for minutes.

I did a ton of research to find the right place to stay for the Amalfi Coast portion of our Italy…read moretrip... and Palazzo Montesanto was the perfect choice! Located in an upscale part of Maiori across the street from the beach, the Palazzo Montesanto is a small bed and breakfast that occupies one floor of a five-story building. In this part of Italy, most of the places to stay are smaller bed and breakfasts, so you never really know what you're going to get. We got super lucky, so of course I needed to add this place on Yelp and wrote a review! Maiori is located between Salerno and Positano with Minori and Amalfi both locates relatively nearby! So Maiori really is a perfect location if you're looking to explore like we did! The sign for Palazzo Montesanto is small, but their attention to detail is great! They truly want to make your stay an enjoyable one and we were provided with a lot of helpful local information by the gentleman who checked us in. Prior to even arriving, he reached out to us to ask us our expected arrival time, so that they could be prepared. We spent that day exploring Naples and Pompei, so we were pretty late in arriving at Palazzo Montesanto... and it was no problem at all! Quick check-in, then they walked us to our room, and even allowed us to make our breakfast choices for the next morning! As far as breakfast, you have plenty of choices and they even allow you to pick your breakfast time! Our room had a partial ocean view along with that stunning coastal/mountain view (see my pics)... and it was every bit as nice as they presented it on the booking site we used. And I believe all of their rooms have balconies like ours did, so you can enjoy breakfast overlooking the gorgeous scenery! Overall, wonderful stay at Palazzo Montesanto... and I would definitely stay here again on a return trip to the Amalfi Coast!! *****FIVE STARS*****
