We booked 2 beds but they said their two beds were one bed and one pull out couch. The couch "bed" was so thin and lumpy and you could feel every spring. They gave just one tiny yellow blanket and no pillows. The water park attached shit down 5 minutes after we arrived . The front desk guy was slow as molasses talking to people with a line practically out the door with check ins. Why on earth would only one person be working the front desk during the busiest month of the year? It's just crazy. I would not recommend this hotel. read more

LOVED THIS! We had the one bedroom, it was perfect when traveling with an infant. Stayed here both coming and going to Minnesota. First time I booked on line, second time I called direct. Friendly staff, super clean, great breakfast served. They have a small convenience store to purchase beer, wine, pop, misc. Brought us a pack and play quickly. Super example and exactly what I expected from the Marriott brand Res Inn. Greeting when I walked up to counter, reservation and room ready, confirmed platinum status and points. Great evening snack menu for the managers reception. Room ready, clean, well stocked and even an upgraded room. Breakfast menu allows for a great start to a long business day. Proteins and other stuff (cereals). Location right off the interstate. There is a big pool recreation thing attached to complex but I did not use. Big beds, good fresh linens and firm pillows. Lots of great desk space. Task lighting and even a big tv to work off of. Highly recommend this property in Rapid City!!! Puts the others to shame (i.e. Fairfield in the same complex) and the price point is right on. You don't pay resort fees etc for items / activities you don't use. Had a free day: About 90 mins to Devils Tower and 30 mins to Mt Rushmore. I started my day at DT and then went to MT R and back to freeway and the hotel --- very easy pace and accomplished both incredible sights. And hotel was a great starting location for tomorrow's business meetings. Parking a little tight because there is construction in area but not impossible. Only minor item. Wifi was spotty for part of evening. High demand on low capacity supply. And no coffee available in the morning. ((couldn't find desk person)) read more

I travel for work and spend many nights in motels throughout the year. I mainly stay in Hilton and Marriott units. This unit is brand new and nice overall. The off season rate was under 60 bucks a night, in 6 months it will be three hundred bucks a night. They are extended stay type of rooms with a refrigerator and small kitchenette. The rooms are much brighter and contemporary compared to the Hilton Garden Inn a few miles away. I try not to eat the buffet breakfast that they serve for free in these places. This one seemed worse than others I could smell burnt bacon, yuck. Unless your budget is strapped I recommend eating breakfast elsewhere. Or, just grab a banana if you get to them before they run out. Overall my stay was good and I will stay here again. Rooms are clean, the location is kind of weird on the service road, I like that it is new, clean and bright. I dislike how dark the rooms are over at the Hilton Garden Inn. One weird thing of note is the showers. They decided to put only 1 glass door on, so it is open to the rear of the shower. There is no way to shower that I can tell without getting the floor soaked & using a bunch of towels to sop it up. So much for conserving... Not sure why it shows a Box Elder address this unit is on the eastern edge of Rapid City, right where hwy 79 meets the interstate. The Fairfield and the huge water park are adjacent to this unit as well. read more

This is one of the newest Marriott hotels built recently in the Rapid City area. I chose this over the Fairfield which is next door to this facility. The good news is that it does look fresh and smell new. The downside is that due to the recent opening of this facility, the staff aren't sold or fully understanding of the Marriott branding. The front desk staff doesn't greet you as other Marriott brand hotels usually do. The breakfast staff is overwhelmed, not used to the large crowds and the lack of room in the breakfast area. The housekeeping is struggling with keeping with cleaning routines, finding old and used coffee grounds in the coffee maker in my kitchen inside the room. This was the most disappointing of my visit. Overall, I feel I am being fair with my rating, giving 3 stars out of 5 especially when all the machines in the fitness center are working well and looking brand new with outdoor furniture being functional and clean. read more

Brand new, quiet hotel close to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

When calling to make our reservation I specifically asked if the hotel is connected to the Waitiki water park and was told YES. The front entrance has a Waitiki sign but the HOTEL IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE WAITIKI WATER PARK. When I complained at check in as we were paying $199 a night for a hotel not connected to the water park I was told they have a shuttle. I asked for a shuttle in 30 minutes but was told it only ran at night on a Saturday night because there was no driver currently available. Save your money and stay at the LaQuinta its cheaper and IS CONNECTED to the Waitiki Water Park. read more

We didn't get a chance to stay here but would definitely stay if we were driving thru again. My family and I were moving cross country and had an a vehicle emergency that stranded us in a different city. I ended up cancelling my reservation due to unforeseen circumstances on a short notice. Per their policy I should of gotten charge the full amount but their manager Jake was caring enough to refund my money due to the situation. That's a place were I like doing business with and will keep on using Marriott. Thanks again, it's nice to still find good people/business. read more

The hotel is charging us for room damage that we didn't do, and they told us that much when they said they billed the wrong room and were refunding us. Now they come out and accuse us of doing the damage and say we aren't getting refunded. Seems pretty shady to me. We didn't do ANY damage to the room. read more

I have been a Platinum Premier member for over 10 years. I would NEVER stay in this hotel again. Yes, it is a newer hotel, however, the staff was not good. As a Platinum Premier Marriott member you do receive little "extras" when you stay at a Marriott hotel. Well not at this property. I booked my stay using points I had earned from staying at Marriott hotels on average 160 nights a year. I received a small room that was not satisfactory. When I called down to the front desk, the staff just laughed at me and said they could not help me. When I complained about having a connecting room, which I HATE, I was told that ALL THE ROOMS in the hotel were connecting - apparently they thought I was stupid enough to believe that. My profile states a top floor, feather free room and I that is not what I received at all. I realize that all of this may sound petty, but when you travel as much as me (approximately 300 nights total each year in hotels) you look forward to the "extras" on the road during a vacation. Especially when using points that you have earned for your room. The only thing good about this hotel is its location as far as I'm concerned. Convenient to everything. read more

We booked via Marriott reservations here for 6 nights over the phone and was told it was a pet-friendly hotel. We also booked our mother-in-law 2 nights for her birthday weekend. This morning, on the last morning of our stay, our 3 pound yorkie started getting allergies and scratched her skin raw so we called down for a first-aid kid, which they did not have except for 1 piece of gauze.. We went out for an emergency run and bought a cone and medical supplies. Instead of asking us whether our dog Praise was ok, the front desk worker Julie Moemerts said she would bill us $100 for a pet deposit AS we were checking out and tells me to call Marriott if I have a problem with it. Our 3 pound Yorkies did not have any accidents and we had even cleaned our room before we left. Worst yet, after I tell her I am going to grab my last belongings from the room - I find that Julie disabled my room key so I can't even get in. After booking a total of 8 nights you'd figure staff would be slightly concerned of even care about your pet. read more

Loved loved this place. We were on a road trip July 2017 to see the sights in South Dakota aka Mount Rushmore and the room was very spacious. There was 5 of us and we had a king bed with a sleeper sofa. Breakfast was good and the staff was super nice. Lots of parking and easy to find. read more

We stayed the night on our way home from Mount Rushmore. The hotel is very modern and appears new. The room we had was awesome for the price. Had a kitchenette and a separate bedroom. It was great for our family of four. We also visited the water park which is great for young families. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we've had. I brought my family out to stay at your residence in in Rapid City this weekend and ran into an issue that you need to know about. Upon checkin Friday afternoon, my family navigated to our hotel room to rest before evening activities. When my wife pulled the blankets down to my down, she saw multiple hairs on the bed, head and other. This in itself is unacceptable as the cleaning service should have caught it but mistakes can happen. I cleaned the hairs off the bed because my wife needed to sleep due to a medical condition. I called down with both my cell phone and the in room phone but no answer before cleaning this myself. I spoke to the front desk manager immediately upon my exit of the room at approx 530pm and she assured me that the sheets would be changed by housekeeping the following day. On Saturday morning, the same front desk manager was on duty and I verified that the sheets would be changed when we left for the day. She acknowledged that this would occur and around 1145am, we left the hotel for the day. Upon our return at 4pm, my wife was ready to lay down to rest and low and behold, the sheets had not been changed and the cleaning service had come. We knew the sheets had not been changed because there was a stain on the sheet on my wife's side that was still there. We spoke again to the desk girls around 645pm asking why this had not occurred and if they could do it before we came back for bed and were told that they were busy and it might take awhile. This was very dismissive and when we returned 3 hours later, the sheets had not been changed but there were now three desk girls talking together as we walked in. I called down making the request for clean sheets for a 4th time and finally someone came up to do it. I stay at Marriott exclusively for business travel and have never ran into an issue like this. We stayed in your Fairfield In for 6 weeks last year for a business trip of mine and had a great experience but this trip has soured me on your brand. read more

Have been a Marriott Gold member for some time traveling alot for business and some for pleasure. This was our vacation hotel for 4 nights. We arrived an hour early and the front desk person was not happy even though I requested an early arrival on their APP. He said they had one room available early-the parking lot was empty? Once we got to our room it was the worse view in the Hotel-no view- overlooking the air units on the second floor. The bed was messed up and smelt of mold. This would be a zero rating if it wasn't for the friendly breakfast staff. read more

Stayed here for a night on a cross country drive...and had no idea that it was a new hotel and just opening. When we arrived, they were celebrating their grand opening with free gifts, open bar, free dessert, and live music for platinum members (although, I think they allowed all guests). All that was a bonus but I'm not factoring into my review since kind of a one time deal. The room was a suite and large. Very clean and attractive decor. This would be a great place for someone on an extended stay since had a full fridge, dining table, living room area with couch and tv, drawers/vanity, and large shower. Everything was new so still in great condition. They had a free breakfast buffet which had eggs, sausage patties, potato hash, fresh fruit, etc. My only complaint with the breakfast was the line and the kids piling their plates a mile high with food...leaving nothing for others...I blame the parents for that and not the hotel because workers were trying to quickly replace empty items even up till breakfast close at 0900. The hotel is conveniently located next to an indoor water park (prob the reason for all the kids at breakfast) and the front desk said tickets are $16 for the park. Overall, a good experience and would stay again in the future. read more

This hotel is brand new. It's a beautifully done residence inn by Marriott. We will definitely be stating here again. We got a king room on the 2nd floor which was massive. Very nice beds, tv and bathrooms. The breakfast was great! They even had gluten free bagels set out which was a nice touch. We didn't get to enjoy the pool and water park but they did seem nice. Not a destination for just the water park but would be nice while staying at the hotel. read more

My only gripe with this hotel was not being able to check-in upon arrival. However, this clearly newly renovated hotel was comfortable to stay in and very modern. Even though not directly in downtown Rapid Falls, it conveniently had a guest reception with grilled items that made it easy for us to eat after tired from being on the road all day. read more

I held off on writing this review as I am a Marriott Rewards Platinum member and I have been working to resolve the issues we encountered during our stay at the Marriott Residence Inn Rapid City (Box Elder) property on July 7, 2015. Our room was simply not up to the usual Marriott standards and was in fact the worse room I have ever stayed in at a Marriott property in the 15 years I have been a Rewards member - and this is a new property! Landscaping wasn't even in and we saw employees still hanging signs in the hallways. I have averaged 100+ Marriott hotel nights a year the last 2 years. This was the worse Marriott room and overall experience I have ever had. I have never written a letter of complaint to Marriott before this occurred, and I have never posted a negative review on any service related industry. In fact I have written letters of praise to past properties including the Marriott Denver Tech Center and Marriott Fairfax at Fair Oaks. Great properties and wonderful employees. This hotel in Rapid City doesn't even come anywhere near close. In a nutshell: Used bar of soap in the shower; Hairs in the shower; Brown stains (coffee?) in the tub; Bed linens on the sofa bed were not changed from the previous guests (a hotel employee brought us fresh linens and helped me strip and change the bed linens) This hotel employee was wonderful. He was very apologetic and helpful; Used fast food carriers in the cupboard; Old grapes / cherries in the disposal that were smelly and not flushed down the disposal; and strips of medical gauze tape hanging from the light near the bed from what I can only assume was left by a previous guest who was changing a bandage. Simply a disgusting experience. I called the front desk within an hour of being in our room and was told that a manager was not available. I tried to speak to the manager the next day (on two occasions) and was told he was too busy (both times) and had just returned from vacation. I provided my contact information and was told the manager would contact me back -- he never did. I provided a letter of complaint to Marriott.com at which point the property manager sent me a canned apology with no offer to fix / address the issue or reinstate the points we used for the stay. He did state that he addressed housekeeping and the front desk staff, but frankly what wasn't sufficient. Also, I couldn't help but notice the property manager's response came in AFTER I contacted Marriott.com and not before - as it should have. I informed the manager his response was not sufficient. A customer care agent replied that he was looking into my issue and would "contact me shortly". That was on July 13, 2015. As of July 23 (and two more follow up emails that I sent requesting a status) nobody has replied. I am quite frankly shocked at the lack of interest and follow up expressed by the property manager and the Customer Care supervisor. I have now called Customer Care an additional 2 more times. Finally after multiple emails and phone calls and hours of my time they agreed to repost the Reward points back to my account. It should not have taken 17 days and multiple hours and calls on my part to get this resolved. This should have been resolved within 24-48 hours. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. My recommendation would be to stay at a different Marriott property and not the Residence Inn in Rapid City. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Spearfish SD the following night and the room was better, the service was wonderful, and employees were 100% more professional - not to mention friendly and helpful. read more

Great, newer hotel! We had a ground floor, one bedroom room that was HUGE. In fact the bathroom was almost as big as my master suite bathroom and almost as nice! In fact, it was nicer than some Ritz-Carlton bathrooms I've had in my RC hotel rooms. The staff was super accommodating. We stayed for two nights with our two corgis and the staff went above and beyond to pet our dogs and ensure that we had a great experience. The place was clean and well kept, and I was very happy with our experience. I highly recommend staying here if you are in town. It's about 30 minutes from Mt Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial, and about 75 minutes from Badlands National Park (a long but extremely easy drive). A Starbucks stand is in the next hotel over (the hotels are connected and you don't even have to go outside to get there!). There is also an enormous indoor water park connected to the hotel. We didn't go in, but it looked like families were having a great time in there. read more

Water park is huge (combines 3 hotels) but no info was given at the front desk about how to get a wrist band or how much it cost (yes even hotel guests have to pay). Newer hotel with great amenities. Staff super friendly. Arrived in time for evening reception, around 6 pm. Brats, dogs, potato salad, salad, pineapple, all fresh. Wine and beer great too. Went to adjoining water park. Awesome fun for the family. Room was super comfortable and clean. Had popcorn and watched about 4 different fireworks displays at same time! We were in room 419. My family and I recently stayed here over the 4th of July weekend, and for the most part we enjoyed our stay. I do have a few complaints however; the first being the giant spider that was in our room on our last night there. It walked across our children's bed at about 11pm and nobody could sleep after that. It wasn't just a little spider, but tarantula size. We had snapped a picture of it before it quickly scurried under the AC unit, and then showed it to desk staff in the morning and they were like "yeah they are big aren't they. We haven't had any for quite a while, but on occasion they do like to come up from the prairie" and then when we just stood there staring at them, they said, "they are harmless". Ummm, what? Not harmless when they scared our kids half to death and there was no notice that such a thing could even happen. I felt that we were easily dismissed with out any compensation for our stress, not even and I'm sorry that happened. There were other little things too that bothered me, such as the breakfast area was so small that it was claustrophobic and constantly out of food, and that they only had 3 highchairs. We were told that they used to have 4, but that someone ran off with one. read more
