I've stayed at this location twice recently on a few trips. The lobby is spotless and the staff super friendly. I checked in and got to my room. Rooms were spotless. Bathroom was in excellent condition and immaculate. The breakfast was simple, but delicious. I stayed at the North Elk Vale Rd location in Rapid City three nights recently.cIt was booked through my place of work. Upon arrival at my room door it looked like there had been foul play or a break in at the door seam. It made me feel so unsafe. I slept with the heavy metal bench propped up against the door. The door seemed to lock still but I did not feel okay about it given the looks of the door frame. In addition the room reeked of so much bleach and chemicals I had to leave the window open for the day, despite 30 degree temps. In addition, every night, I took the elevator, it made a loud bang that I was worried about getting in. It also took 3-4 minutes for the elevator to get to the third floor. Thirdly, the key did not work the last 2 nights to my door so I had to go back downstairs to have it re-programmed, a total pain. I was told it was my fault for keeping the key card too close to my cell phone, which most likely erased the card program. The shower is wrapped with blue tape to prevent a leak but drips still horribly when running and the handle doesn't turn off completely so it drips. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE for anyone at ANY PRICE. I expect a refund of some kind for this. I will NEVER stay here again. read more

I'm giving this property five stars simply because the people at the front desk were so darned nice, and the room had a hot tub, so we left happy. The location is convenient to the freeway but not much else; you'll need to drive quite a ways to get to a restaurant or a store or anything. A greater negative is that there are signs of wear and neglect that are typical of properties owned by certain groups these days: carpets are heavily stained and, in many places, threadbare; maintenance is not a priority. Still, I had a great night's sleep and everyone I encountered during our stay was super friendly, so I'd definitely stay there again. read more

This hotel seems to be undergoing some extreme cost cutting measures currently, so I would recommend people ignore any reviews older than the last couple of months. The rooms are a good size, and the facility is decent but lacking in current maintenance. Breakfast is a kids granola bar, small spongy apple, and tiny half size yogurt (only one person until supplies run out!) That's it! Drink options are tiny water bottles and coffee. No juice, no milk, nothing else. Cleanliness is very questionable. The coffee maker had a thick layer of dust (during COVID when stuff is supposed to be sanitized.) You have to request housekeeping service, so I requested it just once for a 4 night stay, and they did a poor job. They only swapped out the towels and changed the bed linens, but they didn't wipe anything, even the melted soap off the soap tray, didn't empty or leave a new bag for the ice, didn't leave clean linens for the pull out bed, etc. The shower in the morning ranged from cool to lukewarm. The employees ranged from uninterested to downright rude, but I don't really blame them. My husband just asked one person if they were going to be getting in any other breakfast options and the clerk launched into a lengthy diatribe about how what they were serving was perfectly acceptable, and granola bars are the best they can do. Clearly, she had heard a lot of complaints! (He only asked because another employee told us the first day we were there that someone forgot to place the order, and so the lack of items was temporary. However, based on reviews from a few weeks ago, and this conversation, we now know that's just what they were telling people to placate them.) It's also very telling that the clerk when I checked out, did not even ask if we had a good stay. She just took my cards and wished me safe travels. read more

When I travel for work I normally use Marriott. I have stayed at some pretty bad Marriotts. Walking in to the Comfort Suites I was amazed by the high quality of this location. While the cost is low, the quality was as good as any of the best Marriott's I have stayed at. The staff, super friendly and helpful. We needed to change some of our plans with our stay and they were more than accommodating without any charges. What did I learn today? If I have plans that bring me back to Rapid City, I am staying here. read more

Very very disappointed in Comfort Suites. We had booked two rooms for 10 day to attend the Sturgis Rally but due to the uncertainty of the Covid 19 we had to make a decision, cancel our reservations or keep them and hope for the best, we decide to cancel on 04/21/20. Yes we signed a booking agreement stating we would loose our deposit in the amount of 450.00. Although Comfort Suites received federal money to help compensate for lost revenue due to the virus they refused to wave our deposit, I called several times asking and leaving messages for Tamra Brown the general manager to return my call, she never did.. Sorry comfort Suites we have spent a lot of money with you but I will never stay at this location again. read more

After a 15-hour day on the road, my family needs comfortable beds, functioning wifi, a clean pool, and a big breakfast in the morning. I don't need an $11-per-person water park. What a great property. Very clean spacious rooms. I was worried about the location close the the interstate, but very quiet. Perfection location for visiting Badlands, Wall Drug, Rushmore. I cannot day enough good things about the staff. I ran into a travel delay situation and they could not have been more accommodating in helping me extend my reservation. My daughter, who was staying in SD on business ended up canceling her reservation at the Marriott to return here the following night! Great breakfast makes for a 5 star property! read more

Our family stayed here for vacation for the week. We've stayed here before and had a good experience. This time, there was some miscommunication between the front desk and housekeeping. I'm understanding that policies have changed and there won't be a full room clean each night on week long stays. However, I did fill out housekeeping requests/verbally requested our trash be taken out twice and it didn't get done. The first time the very kind housekeeping lady stopped me to apologize after she heard me request at the front desk and she stated there was an issue with her gaining entry into our room. The next time it wasn't done I'm not even sure if housekeeping was notified. The other issue involved us waking up to find our ice chest from the back of our vehicle was stolen. Again, I'm understanding the hotel is not responsible, but I did want to report it to the front desk just in case other guests were reporting missing items too. The slim blonde lady working the front desk Monday morning 4/17 absolutely needs to be talked to by management about how to address hotel guests. When I reported the issue to her, rather than at least apologize or pretend to care she seemed disinterested and lacked empathy. I know that there is nothing she could have done but most people could at least muster up an "I'm sorry that happened". The interaction with that employee was enough to ensure we don't return. Every other employee was very polite even when they were very busy. read more

I was there spending the night (4/16/2020)and I had laid down for the night and got up to get some Tylenol and I turned the lamp on by the bed and saw a bug on the wall. I kind of panicked and thought it was a bedbug but I have never seen one in person before so I Googled. . It sure as heck was a bedbug. I gathered up all of my things and called the front desk and the lady asked that I bring the bug that in a cup and she would switch me rooms. No, thanks. I did trap the bug and took it to the desk but I left. I was told to call in the morning to talk to the manager and I expect a full refund. Not to mention I stayed there last weekend as well and I feel I should be compensated for that as well. To say I'm beyond grossed out is a understatement. read more

Fairly new motel on East edge of Rapid City, at intersection of I-90 & Hwy 16. Easy on/ off. Restaurants nearby. This is cushy living--very clean, spacious rooms, very comfy beds! No other motel on our trip could match this one. The staff was very helpful & friendly. Breakfast was complete & I especially liked the smoked sausage slices to compliment the eggs. This large motel was completely full, so at breakfast, I thought getting to use the waffle machine would be impossible. But they had 2 machines! Great! The breakfast attendant was friendly and attentive to our needs. Awesome place! Recommend highly! read more

We've now stayed here twice. The price is a little high, but the rooms are spacious and the staff and nice. The breakfast buffet is typical (waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy). The gravy was a bit cold this time, not sure if the crockpot was having issues. We will probably stay here again. Might ask for a room on the east side of the wind is blowing. We had a fun whistle for a few hours late this afternoon when the wind was 60+ mph. read more

I liked that all the parking was in a generously spaced well lit lot in the front of the hotel. New building which was super clean and quiet. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Convenient location which was easily accessible for out rental truck. Great steak restaurant next door is a must stop for dinner and the Free hot breakfast and wifi was a big plus. Apparently it's very expensive to stay in Rapid City. We usually stay at Holiday Inn Express or Hampton, so we were a little hesitant to try Comfort Suites, but the Yelp reviews were good. The front desk staff were nice and personable. We found the room very comfortable, spacious, clean, and with many extras: extra towels, extra pillows, even extra toilet paper. The bed was comfortable and the A/C cold. Everything was actually great until the following morning. At exactly 8:32 a.m. there was a knock at the door. I was just waking up. I went to the door and said, "Yes?" and the housekeeper said, "Housekeeping." I said nothing, assuming they would leave. Before I walked away from the door, I looked out the peep-hole and saw her and 1 more housekeeper continuing to stand outside the door. I had to open the door. She said, "A lot of people have already checked-out, so we have to check." Really? That's the method you use to know when rooms are vacated? 1) It's 8:30 in the morning, and check-out isn't until 11. So you're waking people up and forcing them to open their door so you can assess whether a room is vacated? Yeah, right. It's 2016, so either find a better method, or stop lying to guests that you are purposefully waking up so that you can pressure to leave. We paid almost $170 for a room that we utilized for far less than 24 hours, get a grip. The other reason this otherwise very pleasant stay is getting a star docked (and which may seem petty to some) is that we were charged $2.00 to pay with a Visa. Seriously, Comfort Suites? read more

This Comfort Suites was convenient as a home base for area attractions. The staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful They deserve five stars just for themselves! The hotel was clean. In order to conserve water, they will only give you fresh towels every night if you ask, but some people like being "green". Hotel is on a highway, but you can not hear the cars. Breakfast can get pretty busy, but it starts at 6:00am to help accommodate people's schedules. Breakfast was good, coffee was really good, and the waffles were delicious. Stayed here 10/17 to 10/21. Second stay at a Choice property and it was another good one. Very clean, very modern, very spacious rooms. Don't know how old this property is but it looks brand new. Indoor pool great for kids. Free breakfast includes eggs and waffles among other selections. Excellent value for the price. Highly recommended. read more

I would have given 5 stars but I came down to the pool and asked the young female employee who was locking up the pool if I could take a look inside and she said, WHY!? Really? I am asking you because I am interested in taking a dip when you're open in the morning! The hotel was very nice. However, if you are not on a gluten free diet, be warned that nearly everything at breakfast is, including the waffle mix and biscuits. The waffle mix is labeled "original." This is the best location if you're staying in Rapid City or visiting any of the attractions within a two hour radius. Don't stay in those little tourist trap areas. You'll dread it. Stay at the Comfort Suites instead. Rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Beds are very comfortable and we slept well each night. Awesome continental breakfasts, which run from 6:00-10:00am. Staff was very friendly. There's a pool, hot tub, and workout room. Free wifi. Computer access. Plenty of parking. Lots and lots of amenities close by. Very close to I-90, but you won't hear any highway or street noise. They have laundry facilities if you need to wash a load or two, or you can have your laundry sent out. (They will make change for you at the front desk if you need quarters for the machines). This was our home base for the week we stayed, and we drove to all the attractions with ease (Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Devil's Tower, Spearfish, etc., etc., etc.). The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because housekeeping failed to clean our room the first day, but they brought up fresh towels, were apologetic, and were more than willing to clean the room and make up the beds for us, even though it was not until we discovered it in the evening after a day out playing. We would definitely stay here again. The Comfort Suites provided a very nice and comfortable experience for us. You should definitely stay here. read more

We were able to book the last room on a packed night in Rapid City! Our room was a suite - larger and nicer than we expected. All the staff was incredibly friendly - everyone who we passed made a point to say good morning to us- about 20 staff also gathered to sing happy birthday to a guest's father which was sweet! We had a great stay here, from the minute we checked in until we left the people at the front desk were very friendly. Our room was very nice sized, clean and modern. Breakfast was good every morning. The waffles and donuts were a hit for the kids. Our room was very quite, we stayed 3 nights and never did hear noise outside the room. I went to this comfort suites to rest before my day at mt Rushmore and sight seeing. My whole experience there felt ruined by one employee named Janet working at the breakfast buffet that morning. As soon as my boyfriend and I stepped in to the waffle station she greeted us with unnecessary and excessive rudeness. We asked each other," where's the non-stick spray she interrupted in a very rude tone saying," there's already oil in it." She proceeded to say," ugh, let me do it," and took the cup of batter and utensil out of my boyfriend's hands and started making it. We have travelled and booked here many times and experienced a waffle iron before, grabbing and rudeness was not necessary. So he begins to pour a second cup of batter to make one for me and she starts yelling," enough! That is ENOUGH!" After we sit down she keeps circling our table and from the kitchen doors behind us watching, uncomfortably 'keeping an eye on us'. Later she comes by and has the AUDACITY to smack my leg and say," don't do that!" I turn to her and say," you can't tell me how to move my body." I think she found my way of sitting inappropriate and took matters in to her own hands. When I asked for her name she said her supervisor gave her permission to stop anyone abusing the seats. I was sitting with one foot on the ground and one crossed slightly touching the seat. I don't know if her issue was racially motivated or she felt personally wronged the moment we stepped in the door, but she was extremely rude, made unacceptable physical contact with both of us and left me feeling very bitter towards the whole situation.
