She was adopted once before and brought back because the family had too young of kids for a 4 month old kitty. We found Meeny at a PetSmart event that Bonner Animal Rescue was at and I fell in love. I couldn't stop thinking about that sweet kitty that I knew I was going to bring home some day and be her forever home. About 2 weeks later, we called the shelter, set an appointment, and went to the appointment ready to give a kitty her forever home and the volunteers were very nice, passionate, and most of all they loved volunteering! We were there for about an hour visiting with Meeny making sure she was the right fit for us and 5 minutes later we were signing papers. After we signed papers, we left without a cat knowing that the next day, we would have a spoiled-rotten cat that loves chicken, and went to the store and got everything she would need and went home to get everything set up for her to enter her new life! When we went back the next day to pick up our kitty, she was all ready to go and all that was left was to pick her up and get things finalized. Meeny had a little bit of a scare, she thought I looked like a dog with my hat on and she got so scared she hissed and peed on one of the owners. When I took my hat off, she was all lovey again and she was ready to go. We also had another scare with a bell she was unfamiliar with and we went all around the shelter trying to find where Meeny, a tiny kitten, had gone. We brought out some "cookies" (treats) and she came right back. Meeny was our perfect match for our small family. First, let me start by saying the adoption process went great, but things went downhill after seven…read moremonths of having our new baby home. We adopted Tally Roe in June with paperwork and them stating that she was spayed. This, however, seems not to be the case, as we have just recently found out. Our $400.00 adoption fee has now turned into almost $1000.00. We are on our fourth bag of diapers at $25.00 a box and a couple of washable ones that were $30 for two, and dealing with a dog in heat. Unleashed has offered to spay her, but we did not get to meet the vet when we went in, and at this point, I will make sure my baby is taken care of properly and take her to my vet and pay for it myself. It is unfortunate, Unleashed does not do a better job of ensuring these dogs are spayed before adopting them. They said the TX shelter they retrieved her from told them she was, but when I asked the lady at the desk at their vet clinic if this had happened before, she said it indeed had. I gave three stars because, as I stated, the adoption process was smooth, but I will not adopt from here again. I am not a breeder, and I've never dealt with a female dog in heat, but let me tell you, it isn't fun!

She had found Katie and had taken care of her. I talked to this lady for a week or so about Katie and we decided to meet at the PetsMart that she was being kept at. My boyfriend and I fell in love with her, and were ready to get the adoption going. We sat down at the adoption table and started filling out the forms. Then the Adoption lady and her daughter asked us how old we were. My boyfriend was 20, and I 19. We did not see that as a problem, and neither did Katie's finder, however the adopters were disgusted. As soon as they found out our ages, they wanted to get us out of their adoption place as soon as possible. Asking us questions in a snotty way, and being completely rude. We would have been great owners for Katie. I have been an animal lover my whole life, and worked at a PetsMart. I am an animal activist, and Katie would have gotten nothing but love. The adopters knew that, but once they found out that neither of us were 21, it was all over. The last thing the adopter said to me was "We will call you if you get approved for the adoption, but we don't call people who don't." HOW RUDE? The lady who found Katie talked to us afterwords and expressed her feelings towards Second Chance Pet Adoptions, and said that if she had known that they would treat great pet owners that way, she would not have asked for their help to find Katie a loving home. I called the Second Chance Pet Adoptions and left a voice mail a few days later inquiring about my application, and saying that if we did not get approved we would appreciate a call anyway because we wanted Katie to find a home. However, i never receive a call or e-mail or anything. We wanted to give a cat a second change. This cat was 4 years old, and most people want kittens. But we loved Katie. Adopting cats is a great thing to do. I am glad that there or organizations that do it. But, when someone pretty much spits in my face for being young, despite my aptness to adopt and love an animal, that place should be shut down or put under new management. It was absolutely absurd. So a few weeks later we went to Wayside Waifs, where the staff was super friendly and did everything that they could to help us find the right cat. They adopted to us the same day. We did fill out an application and were asked various questions, but they saw what kind of people we were, and that we would take care of any animal.

We were initially a bit daunted by the pre-adoption application which has several open-ended questions to fill out; much more involved than any other shelter I'd adopted from. We applied on a Thursday and received an email Friday informing us our pre-adoption was approved. Since there was an adoption event on Saturday we were able to pick up our new furry friend the next day - meaning that from application to pick up was less than 48 hours. Our experience at the shelter, where the cats are housed in their own separate house on the grounds, was fantastic. The volunteers were insanely kind to our family and let us meet the animal, take photos with him, and then we did a short informational session with volunteers. Our cat's foster mom was there and kindly told us about our new friend and sent us home with an entire grocery bag of treats and toys. One note is that there is a two week trial period where your adoption isn't finalized until that point, at which point your pet's medical records will be released. Not a bad thing, but different than other shelters I've worked with so I wanted to call it out. Overall if I were telling a friend about my experience I'd say that it's more involved and more intense than other adoption experiences I've had, but worthwhile and still incredibly efficient.

We were extremely disappointed with this animal shelter. It took an act of congress just to go see…read morethe animals and you couldn't really interact with them without signing your life away. Some of the folks there were helpful but others seemed like they didn't want you to be there. No help in the dog area at all. It's like you are at an outside mall that only allows window shopping. Not a friendly place that would make me want to adopt an animal. I do feel bad for the animals there. I'm hoping they pay more attention to them than the people coming into the shelter to adapt them.
