I feed my dogs an excellent diet. My current Jack Russell Terrier is fed Primal Raw. She is also given Dasuquin w/ MSM for age-related arthritis, a multivitamin, vitamin d supplementation under veterinary guidance (nearly all dogs are deficient due to not metabolizing vitamin d through the skin from the sun), and Vetriscience heptic for her liver due to elevated enzymes. Anyone who knows us knows we take excellent care of our pets. In addition, I work part-time or about 15 years a week max. My spouse works full-time. Between our 2 schedules, our dog is left at home for a max of 3 hours. I pretty good life for any dog. I'm 49-years old. My husband is 64-years old. Although our current dog no longer walks 2 miles a day due to age, I continue to walk 2 miles a day beyond going to the gym. I'm also certified as a yoga instructor although I don't do it for a living. My spouse also exercises regularly. We applied to adopt a 2-year old Jack Russell Terrier. We know what we are in for. I've owned Jack Russell Terriers since 2001. My husband has owned them since 2007 when he moved into my house. Our adoption application was turned down by Virginia without bothering to call our veterinarian for a reference. No additional personal references were requested. They didn't even bother to complete a house inspection. Why? Virginia (the woman that runs the shelter) and the foster parent came to the conclusion the dog would be a better fit in a house with a younger dog and children. Our dog is 14-years old. The listing for the dog stated she was anxious and was not a good fit with younger children. When we visited the foster parent's home, the dog didn't even interact with his dog. I'm utterly confused. The dog would have had plenty of exercise at our residence via walks and a fenced backyard. She would have had excellent medical care and would have been properly fed. And, we have never once turned a dog into a shelter for any reason. We know how to properly train dogs, and if what we did wasn't working, we would have hired behavioral training. A house with children and our current dog is too old? How do they even know we wouldn't adopt a third dog if it was needed to help entertain her? We've had 4 dogs in the past which was clearly shown on the application. How it came across was age discrimination. Age is no reason to turn down a promising application. I guess I officially need to color my premature white hair so I'm not mistaken as geriatric. . .several friends that are in their 60s have stated they have had similar problems and needed to adopt through a breeder due to being turned down for similarly ludicrous reasons. And I have to say that Virginia is possibly the most unfriendly person I've ever met that runs and animal shelter. I'm assuming she is the person people are referring to in prior reviews. Prior to this interaction, we were donating to T.A.R.A. Now that I know this is how they handle adoptions, I'm officially passing on donating in the future.

We purchased her puppy package for in-home training sessions with our French Bulldog, Greta. Not only did Pam teach us how to interact with her, but Greta LOVED her and learned so much from her visits. At only four months, Greta is now potty trained, comes on command, sits on command, gives, 'hi-fives,' is crate trained, started to learn how to go on walks with a harness, knows command, 'up,' and 'off,' can fetch, and we learned how to calm her when she gets over stimulated. She even began some skateboarding with her! Of course we have to put in the work to continue to in grain these things in a puppy, but I can't even begin to convey the wealth of knowledge Pam imparted on us, so that we could acclimate more into puppy life and so Greta fit into ours. Pam teaches the human as well as the dog giving you a wealth of information, going above and beyond so that you know why a dog does the things they do, how to manage the behavior, and how the dog will absorb the training. She eased my worries and I was pleasantly surprised how expertly she worked with little ones. I can't recommend her services enough.

My interactions with Pam started out promising, but deteriorated. Then there was a multi-week gap in communication and eventually a text saying she didn't have the time or energy to help my pup out, all despite me having pre-paid for a 5 session pack. To make matters worse, she overcharged me by $100 for the pack. The only silver lining is that I was able to negotiate a partial refund. The whole experience soured me on Pam 4 Paws.

Well, I'm a real person, and my real experience was this: You walk in, and an employee practically thrusts a puppy into your arms. You notice that the puppy is listless and barely responds when you pet her, but assume she might be tired from being tossed from person to person all day. But then you notice that her eyes are runny, and her coat is oily and clumped. Seems odd, but you look into the puppy's eyes and want to take her home. She's cute, and you can tell that she's miserable living in a cage and being passed around all day. You want to rescue her. Then an employee comes by and asks you if you want the puppy. You find out that shes $6,000, which is when they mention their financing plan, including a warranty. If you don't pay the puppy off in 6 months, the interest rate is 30%. The employee sure puts a lot of emphasis on the warranty, and something doesn't seem right. The employee goes away to let you think, and you pull out your phone to do a Google search. That's when you come upon dozens of heartbreaking stories about Petland puppies. People who pay an exorbitant price for a puppy that dies within a month. The warranty is a sham, and leaves people paying 30% interest on a dead puppy. And all of the vet bills from trying to save the poor thing. Reluctantly, you say you won't be buying the puppy, and watch as she's put away. Then you walk back out to look at the wall of puppies, and find that most of them on that particular wall also seem exhausted and have the same runny eyes. You go home and Google early signs of distemper. Looks exactly like what you saw. You Google "Petland puppy distemper" and find that it's a common problem. Then you look at where their puppies come from. From petland You get a nice story on usda-accredited, responsible breeders. However, it's not that hard to get usda accreditation, even if you have multiple violations. Further, petland sources its puppies from puppy mill brokers. I'll let you find the rest. Take a look at the following brokers, which are major petland suppliers: the hunte corporation, perfect puppies, and Tracy's k & j pets. You might also find some interesting stories if you Google "petland former employee" Moral of the story? Don't give in to high-pressure sales and puppy dog eyes, and use the Googles. I'm glad I did.
