I dropped by to buy a roof basket for my car, the sales guy had a look at my load bars and told me that they had nothing that would fit, and all they could do for me would be a pricy custom install involving drilling. Yikes. I scooted over to Rack Attack, who sold me the same rack that Re-Rack said would not fit. And it fits perfectly. Also, the sign that says that I should tip my installer 20% so that they can have a living wage is way out of line. Why not pay the employees a living wage? We just left this place completely blown away - in a bad way. My husband called this location in the morning and asked about a certain rack system if they had it in stock and costs. We drove from Beaverton to NE Portland that afternoon and discovered the shop was closed because it "was hot and no one was shopping". We saw the garage open and walked around where the ENTIRE staff was sitting there in the heat drinking beer. I finally decided on purchasing a cargo box for my car and I was choosing between Rerack and another store to shop for it. I finally decided on Rerack, and I am so happy with my choice. When I first walked in, I wasn't sure where to go - it was hard to tell who worked there and who didn't and no one really greets you right away, so I just kind of stood there scoping the place out. Eric, was behind the counter and I decided to approach him, and he was really amazing and helped me find what I was looking for. I'm glad that he showed me a couple of the used boxes they had, because I scored a great deal on one that I love. The two people that helped me out at ReRack were very helpful, and not over-the-top fake friendly that so many salespeople are. I really appreciated the real person approach. They were able to find a reasonable suitable solution to fit my '95 XJ up to carry two kayaks while keeping my rooftop basket useable at the same time. The person who I talked to (Jay was his name I think?) listened to what I wanted and he didn't make my hope seem like a pain like I thought it might be. He gave my old Jeep a lookover, brought out a crossbar for a visual, showed me locking gutter mounts/towers, and let me know how they could make it happen! I also appreciate that they gave me an accurate price quote up front, when all was said and done there were no sneaky additional charges. Even with free installation, I was pleasantly surprised they even reinstalled my rooftop basket and mounted two kayak carriers all that I had bought elsewhere. All in less than an hour. I made sure to tip them as well. While Rack Attack was very friendly and helpful too, the quick service and available used parts at ReRack ultimately saved me literally $700 from Rack Attacks price, plus I didn't have to hassle with setting an appointment for installation like I would have had to do at Rack Attack. Had a set of Yakima racks from a 1996 Ford Explorer and needed to fit them to a 2010 Ford F-150. Having a hard time finding correct q-clips for a reasonable price anywhere until I found rerack.com. I'm a small business owner and a mother with a very busy schedule. I've been wanting to go to Rerack for weeks and have tried to call a few times to get information. When I finally got someone on the phone, they told me that I just needed to come in. Well... I was worried that I would go through all the effort to go in and they wouldn't have what I needed... So I finally went into Rerack this morning when they opened. Tuesdays are usually my days off and I had my baby with me. I waited for 35 minutes before being acknowledged. That's a long time, even with a well-behaved baby! During my wait, I posted on my Facebook for suggestions on a different place to go get a roof rack for my Honda Element. Several of my friends suggested Rack Attack or REI so I decided to do some further online research since I was just waiting and waiting... with no end in sight. I called Rack Attack and they were immediately helpful. Finally, I was given some mediocre customer service at Rerack that was just a basic price quote. After finding out that the price was the same, I decided to go to Rack Attack since they were so much nicer to deal with. I left, went to Rack Attack and got a nice Yakima rack and basket system. They were amazing with their customer service. The only thing was that they were out of stock of a bracket lock that I needed. So I decided to return to Rerack and give them another shot. (I like to support local businesses whenever possible.) I talked to the guy at the counter and asked if he had this particular part I needed and also if they price matched REI. He wasn't sure and then asked someone else who said no - then told me that I should just go to REI. I was very surprised and disappointed! I said that "I like to support local businesses, I came in earlier and received poor customer service, I left and got a rack system installed down at Rack Attack and thought I would come back to Rerack and give you guys another shot..." He didn't seem to care about any of this, so I left. I really wanted to like Rerack, I like the idea of new/used rack products from a local business. Portland at its finest. They have any and every little part for a rack that you could ever need. They have new and used base racks, ski, bike and cargo attachments, baskets, etc. etc. You can Get-R-Done on the cheap with some old-school used equipment or fly fancy with the shiny new stuff. I opted for the shiny stuff. What can I say, I'm vain. They're not an authorized Thule or Yakima dealer, but they sell it all barely used. They also sell new RV-Inno equipment, which is just as good at a fraction of the cost (like Walgreens asprin vs. Bayer). I picked up a new Inno cargo box. I said I wanted a black one, but I didn't see the one I wanted outside in black. They offered to send me out the door with a silver one so I could use it for my weekend trip and then come back when the black one came in. They ended up having the one I wanted, but still - great service. Bearder (sp?) was super helpful and graciously answered my endless list of questions. Need to hook up a Yakima attachment to a Thule rack? No problem. Need that tiny little clip that holds your lock cylinder in place? They got it. I love this place. Great service, great prices - you don't get that combo very often. I'll definitely be back to grab a snowboard attachment on the cheap. read more

This is an awesome idea and they have some great deals on used racks and parts, but dismally poor installation service. We were going to install the rack ourselves, so after driving all the way out there in afternoon traffic, came home to find they had given us the wrong installation clips for my car (gave us the 4-door version even though it was clear we had a 2-door). After driving back out in a time crunch during rush hour (right before the big weekend we needed the new rack for!), this time we had them install it for us since they offer the service for free, and we had already spent a lot of our time dealing with it. They installed the rack on the wrong side of both front windows, breaking the seal and making it so that once we got on the freeway (for 3 straight hours each way), it was so loud it sounded like we were in an old school airplane. My boyfriend spent a third day of his time fixing the clamps so the window seal stayed in tact -- fortunate for me that I have a handy guy, but if I had had to make a third trip back there for them to fix it, I would have been uber-annoyed. read more

In a town full of mediocre customer service and questionable value when considering the costs of new goods, it's always a treat to have your expectations blown away when you aren't expecting it. I walked into ReRack yesterday with a mis-matched pile of old rack parts, some of which were pretty crusty looking. In the end, I drove away with the perfect rack system for my new vehicle, including a fairing (which I didn't have before) and a gift certificate for $50! I was helped by a couple of different associates while I was there, which was fine as they all seemed quite knowledgeable. While I was talking to one about some final other things, the one who had initially helped me out (Chris) went out to my vehicle and installed my rack for me. I hadn't even asked him to help me put it on, but he took care of it and even in a little bit of rain for no extra charge. It wasn't even busy and Chris was moving quickly and working hard. I saw a couple of employees going the extra mile when I was there, and got excellent bang for the buck - I definitely recommend ReRack to anybody looking to turn their vehicle into a play-mobile. read more

Called to see if they could install a rack on my teardrop (it was specifically designed for it). They said to bring it in so they could see it. I hooked it up, drove over & showed them everything. They said no problem, maybe 2 hours. All good...except ~45 minutes later when they called and said they didn't feel comfortable doing the job. If you're business revolves around racks, you should be able to install one an pretty much anything (especially with step by step directions) or at least be able to tell someone up front it's beyond your skill level. Wasted a day & ended up installing it myself with a bit of help from a buddy the next day. 1 star for most reasonable quote at $80 though, most others wanted $200+. read more

I've been to ReRack several times, over several years, and they've always exceeded expectations. Most recently, I took a bunch of used Yakima gear to trade for a new roof box. First thing they told me was, "sell your old Thule on CL; you'll get 2x as much as we'll give you". Then they tallied up the other stuff, told me exactly what they were giving me for each piece (and percentage of retail value), and then sold me a nice shiny new roof box for the difference, and installed it for me, no charge. I was out of there in 25 min. And they always give away something for free--key chains, straps, extra keys. This is how local business is meant to be. Update: still 5 stars. Went in there today with my now very abused rack to purchase a new locking threaded pin (I bent the old one overloading the rack with too many bikes for thousands of miles). They didn't have any new ones in stock so I brought the rack in and we tested a bunch of used ones till we found one that fit perfectly. This thing was in really great shape and the guy sold it to me for only $5, way less than a brand new one would've been. Great customer service, great prices on their used stuff.
