When we moved and started our service 4 months ago, the previous owners had apparently cancelled their service the day before the pick-up day and had left a full trash can surrounded by 5 big bags of garbage. When I called to set up my service, I had told them about the garbage that was left and was told "I'll send out a message to have them come back and pick it up." I called 3 out of the next 5 days and was told the same thing, "I'll send out a message to have it picked up." On the third phone call I asked what that meant since I had been told that multiple times with no action and was finally told "if someone is available, they will come pick it up, but it likely won't be until your next service day." While I understand that the garbage that was left for us wasn't their fault, I was frustrated by the run-around I was continuously given and wish they would've been transparent. Fast forward 4 months (with admittedly minimal issues), to today which is our scheduled pick-up day. I noticed this morning that our trash, recycling, and yard debris bins were being picked up and taken away in a trailer, and unfortunately, I didn't notice until the truck was driving away. I called Republic Services to ask why our bins were picked up and was told that it must've been an error. My bill is paid and up to date and I did not ask for the bins to be picked up. Again, I was given the same "I'll send out a message" response and was also told that if the guy was still in the area (I called as I saw them driving away) that he could bring them back, and that pick-ups and deliveries are typically only on service days. Meaning, if our bins were not brought back today, that we would have to wait an entire week to have them delivered again and then another week after that to have them dumped. In true Republic Services fashion, our bins were not brought back today. My husband also called mid-day today to ask about the bins as they had not been brought back and was given the same "I'll send out a message" run around kind of answer. The routine lack of transparency, seemingly incompetent office staff, and the fact that they did not fix THEIR mistake today is the reason I will be cancelling my service. I have already reached out to another company to set up service and will be calling Republic Services first thing Monday to cancel with them. read more

Called three times in one week and were told by multiple employees our garbage would be picked up and of course it wasn't . This company gets away with whatever they want because they have no competition. They miss my recycling frequently no reason for it. Customer service kept repeating the same line over and over. in my opinion, we should get a five dollar rebate for every lack of pick up. I bet million have the problem anymore. Their trucks need to slow down number one speed limit in my park is 5 miles an hour they it between cans using tons of gas and missing cans and breaking our rules in the park. It's really not hard to count houses one house trashcan to house trashcan it's not a high thinking joB. It's a simple observant required. If I could give zero stars, I would. The incompetence and lack of consistency is out of control with Republic Services. Ordered 3 yard debris container and signed contract 6/6/24. Received yard debris container 6/7/24. Called to schedule a pick up and removal of bin 6/10/24. The service representative advised me that I would be charged $33.00 a day for the bin after my initial 7 days. This conversation is why I chose to have the bin picked up and removed. When I told the service rep on the phone that the contract we signed just 4 days ago stated it would only be $33 a month, she stated that Republic Services would not honor that contract and she did not understand where I got that number from. Because of that, I let her know that I will no longer be needing the bin and to please empty and remove it from the property. She advised this would be taken care of. Called again 6/21/24 when the bin had still not been emptied or removed. Spoke with Hunter with Republic Services who transferred me to a sales rep named Kristina. I was advised that the bin would be emptied and removed on 6/26/24. Called again 6/27/24 when the bin had STILL not been emptied or removed. Spoke with Mary with Republic Services. I let Mary know that the garbage truck drove up and down the street. It appeared he was looking for the bin but left without emptying the yard debris bin. Mary stated that she saw the pick up was scheduled for 6/28/24. I advised that that would work but it absolutely MUST be done by 6/28/24 because we have roofers coming to our home Monday 7/1/24 and the yard debris bin will be in their way. Mary assured me she had escalated the call and this would be handled by 6/28/24. Called again 6/28 but the service representatives phone kept cutting out. So I had to hang up and call back. Called again 6/28/24 when the Republic Service truck and trailer showed up to remove the bin and was unable to do so as it is still full of yard debris. When I called, the lady I spoke with over the phone stated that her notes show the bin was emptied 6/13/24. This bin has NEVER been emptied. If it had been, I could move it out of the way myself and would not have had to make so many phone calls to Republic Services to get this whole thing straightened out. She assured me that the bin would be emptied and removed today, 6/28/24. Being told Republic Services will not honor a contract they signed, being given empty promises, and getting the absolute runaround has been a total nightmare. I will NEVER order another large bin from them ever again. It is easier for me to haul my debris away myself. This is hands down the worst service I have ever received and I am TERRIFIED this company is going to try and charge me additional fees for their incompetence. Reviewed this company prior. Another missed pick up of my garbage can. I put it out the night before pick up day. All neighbors around me were picked up. Not mine. Called Friday and was told they would reschedule my pick up Monday. 11:15am Monday called to make sure it would be picked up as it's full. Customer service sent another note to the residential side as a reminder.They still missed it. It's a common joke, that if they miss your can, they won't come back to pick it up later. I don't know whether the drivers or the schedulers don't communicate, but i have had a 3 yard dumpster in my driveway for over a week. I paid for them to pick it up Wednesday the 25th. I would call, take notes, be given promises "oh you will be getting service by [fill in the blank]" but they would never fulfill ANYTHING. It was just the worst. For their phone system I would give them 1 star. However I called city hall, explained my problem and they got me in touch with the local Republic Service provider. He was super friendly/attentive and I received all of my cans immediately. It turns out that their phone systems DOES NOT communicate with their local branches?? It was so bizarre. Five stars to ONE. HORRIBLE customer service, HORRIBLE service in general. I rented a dumpster (post death of my brother) for FIVE days. It was delivered at 0630 Thursday before Easter, 2019, and I was told that it would be picked up on the following Tuesday. Over the weekend we got a lot done, but because Sunday was Easter, we took the day off, knowing we had Monday to finish up. Monday morning, around 0900, Republic Services shows up at my house and takes the dumpster I paid $327 for. No call from RS--nothing. I was NOT done with the dumpster. I called as soon as I found out, and was told that "someone" would get back with me. I let two days go by, and call again, on Wednesday. No record of my complaint on file. Interesting. This time I get a "high priority" on my complaint, and am again told "someone" would call me back. No call. I gave it a week and submitted an online complaint (for which they only allow so many characters), specifically asking them to call me, and got a 'do not reply' email stating there was no information in my file about this issue, and they would need more information to help me. THEN, I receive a BILL for the dumpster, even though I prepaid!!! Complete and utter bulls**t. I want to know how they will compensate me for the expensive dumpster I paid for, and was NOT DONE with. Republic Services has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. It is unfortunate when a company can remain successful and continue to provide bad service. They clearly have a monopoly in this industry for the Downtown Salem area. My issue is that in the last month the trash has been completely missed for my whole street twice and I have had to call them to come back out and pick it up. My recycling bin was also stollen and they want to charge my account to get a new one. I politely asked the customer service rep for a credit to my monthly service foe the inconvenience of missed trash/recycling pick up on two occasions. Here response was simply "we don't do that" I asked if she could just put in a request to their management to consider a credit of $10 for the extra payment they are requiring me to pay for a new bin that was stollen. She said "Sir I am not going to do that" There is clearly ZERO interest in providing a great service to their customers and I sincerely wish there were other options so I could give my money to a company who actually cares about customer service. Now that I read the other reviews, I don't feel singled out with the terrible service I received. That seems to be par for the course. I won't say much other than this company gives terrible customer service and clearly doesn't care about that aspect of their business. The worst part is they have a monopoly. There is no other option other than taking my garbage to the dump on my own, which with how bad their service is, I have considered. Kudos to you for not adapting to the times and realizing that bad customer service is bad for business. Our garbage has not been picked up for three weeks. We call and get promises that it's going to picked up. Still no one seems to care why this is happening. At this point I'm checking in to what further action we can take because now it feels like we are paying for a service that has no intention of following through. The horrible service would be simply unacceptable if it were free or if they were paying me, but since I'm paying them such an exorbitant amount to not do their jobs, it's also astonishing. Everywhere else I've lived, it's been simple: The trash companies picked up the trash. With Republic, it's been a lot more interesting. They've failed to empty the recycling bin far more times than they're emptied it. Every time, I have to go online to make sure I had the correct date (they take the big bin only certain weeks), then I have to report a "missed pickup." The automated response says to leave the bin out and they'll get it the next day but they never do, and then I have to haul the full bin back into the yard and wait weeks until the next time they're supposed to pick it up, which they usually don't even do. After this happened about five times, I complained and asked for credit. They credited me for one time. Since then, I've asked numerous times, but I've only gotten the credits if I've jumped through the correct hoops in the right order (1. Report "missed pickup" 2. Wait a few days 3. Complain 4. Ask for a credit 5. Monitor email to see if my request was ignored, if so, repeat steps 3-5). The only other option is to take my stuff to the dump myself, for a flat rate of $25 which doesn't seem too bad compared to the $80 (!!!) they charge me. I'm just worried that after I quit Republic, I'll miss the inconvenience of my overflowing recycling bin in my kitchen, hauling my stuffed outdoor bin to the curb and back every week (without it being emptied), plus all the online "missed pickup" forms, keeping track of when I sent them, asking them to do their jobs and begging for credits when they don't. read more

I moved out of Salem and they didn't cancel my account and then charged me for "losing" their cans even though I told them over a month ahead of time where they would be and that I was out of state. Too expensive for terrible service. There was an extra recycling bin after I had a new one delivered because my neighbors stole my original then brought it back (the replacement took three months to get to me) and I called them six times to pick up the extra and they never did, despite "attempts" to pick it up. When a thief steals your trash can in the middle of the night because you have it on the curb for pickup the next day and the company expects you to pay $75 for a replacement, it is absolutely absurd. The only way to get the replacement without paying this ridiculous fee is to file a police report. I see this as a waste of the customer's time as well as the police department. They should not be bothered over a stolen garbage can, they have more important things to deal with. Yes, theft of any kind is a crime...but this is stupid to need to involve the police. Thieves are everywhere, and your customers should not have to take more time out of their day and interrupt police duties for something so petty...just replace the cans and let us get on with our day. It took 3 calls to Republic Services, 1 call to the police and 1 call back from the police to take care of the issue. More than 3 hours later and I'm still waiting on a call to find out when I can get a new can delivered.... I was told I'd have to wait a full week for it. That is totally unacceptable.. I am disabled and have difficulty walking my garbage down to the street so I pay extra to have it picked up at my house. At least once a month they miss my garbage. I then have to call and remind them. Half the time they STILL do not pick it up. I then have to call yet again and request credit to my account for missed services. I then have to call again when I get my bill to have them fix their billing screw up. This has been going on for YEARS! Republic services has to be one of the worst companies in America. It's not right that we don't have other options (companies) to choose from, we are forced to use this one or haul our garbage to the dump ourselves. Again, I am disabled and this is not an option. I came home on pick-up day to find my big blue recycling can had a wheel broken off it by the truck. I called to report it (all calls go to Arizona now,: we can no longer speak with anyone at the local office). I was told it would be more than a week before they could trade it for a new recycling can. They made a point of saying they were not going to charge me for can exchange. Gee, thanks. I'm sure all those who are swapping out for larger cans with the recycling changes are being hit with this opportunity charge. The day came and went and it hadn't been swapped, although my garbage had been picked up. I called again and was told I owed $15; so the person I spoke to couldn't handle the situation. Of course, I had no idea this was the reason my crippled can had not been replaced. (I had paid bills on my phone and sent an estimated amount. No big deal, I thought, I've paid my utilities for 40 years. When next I paid bills (on-phone again-- this time with the actual bill in front of me) I paid the $15, but they told me that they hadn't yet received it, but would schedule the swap when they did. OK. Today I got a bill that included a 20-dollar charge for "discontinuation of service" although my service was never discontinued. It seems our monopolistic friends are taking every opportunity to hit us with charges. I'd like to see he city look for another trash hauler. read more

This has got to be the most incompetent company I have ever had to work with. I am doing some remodeling at my house and needed a three yard container to contain demo material. It was $56 for a week and they would come out at the end of the week and pick it up and empty it. It sounded like a fair deal to me. So I paid and they delivered it out to my house. No problems. Unfortunately it filled up quickly and so I needed to schedule them to come out and pick it up, empty it and return it. For this service I prepaid them another $56. We scheduled my pick up for the day after Christmas. I was told that shouldn't be a problem. I tried for Christmas Eve, but it was too late to schedule it that early. So on Wednesday I called because they never picked it up. They explained that it had actually been scheduled for Christmas and they don't pick up on Christmas. It had been rescheduled for Thursday. I then explained that I would need the container longer than one week. They explained that it costs $60 per month to have the container. I said that would be fine and asked them to move the date of my final pick up out a few weeks, but I still needed them to pick up it and empty it and bring it back. I was upset and explained to them that I had people working today and they would need somewhere to dump all the demo'ed material. They never picked up the container on Wednesday. They never picked up the container on Thursday. They finally picked up the container on Friday, but they never brought it back. I now still have a large pile of garbage behind my house and no container. At this point I'm going to just rent a truck and take it to the dump myself. However, I am writing this while I have been on the phone for over an hour and a half trying to get my $56 back because they never performed the extra pickup. I have called them roughly 7 times. Spoken with their escalation department twice. Other than the first call to schedule the delivery of the container, no one at Republic Services has actually helped me. In fact they denied my request for the $56 credit once because the service was scheduled for Christmas and they don't refund charges for days they don't work? So, I now have a final response from their escalation department. There is an additional $30 delivery fee for the container that I wasn't told about originally when I ordered the container. They are going to send me a final statement in two to three weeks that will show a $26.85 credit. That is my $56.85 charge refunded minus the $30 delivery fee for the container. I believe they are going to mail me a check or maybe credit my card? I don't actually know, but it will take them at least two to three weeks. I suspect at this point it will be longer. It is a small amount of money. However, I have never worked with a company that has poorer communication, poorer customer service, or poorer policies in place to resolve problems. Republic services is the absolute worst without actually being criminal. Do not do business with them beyond just having them pick up your trash, and I'm sorry if you have to work with them at all. read more

This is for Salem, Oregon. Normally, these truck drivers pick up my yard debris, garbage and recycling. However, the last two weeks I've had nothing but trouble trying to get someone to empty my yard debris container. I had the audacity to move it all of 8 feet south of where they're used to picking it up. It's still very much at the curb and in front of my house (which is NOT a mansion). But suddenly the guy driving the yard debris truck can't see it. Last week, when I called, they came out the next day to pick it up. This week, the yard debris guy, who I feel by now may be a total incompetent, skipped it again. When I called the first time for this week, they said they'd be over the next day to pick it up. That did NOT happen. So I called again. The phone support said she had escalated the problem and the container would be emptied, AND a supervisor would be calling me. NEITHER HAPPENED. WORST service ever! I think they either hired somebody's relative for the yard debris truck or the guy has brain damage and can't see the containers. Oh, and to make it even better, my GRAY garbage container was empty, and somebody put it off the curb and into the bushes, and the Republic idiot decided that was the GREEN LARGER yard debris container. I offered to take a photo of my yard debris container on the curb, full of greenery, which was sticking out between the lid and can, but they said they didn't need a photo. I called 3 weeks ago to set up service, I'm told its all set up and cans will be delivered next week on the regular scheduled day (Tuesday). I received a call the next Monday, I had a past balance on a previous account from 3+ years ago at a previous address. I pay that past balance and pay another $123 to start service at my new address which included first months and can delivery fee, etc. I'm told now that since its Monday there is no way they can deliver my cans that week and I would receive them next Tuesday. This week Tuesday comes and no cans... I call them again and talked to a supervisor.. apparently my account was never set up and some how the agent last week reinstated service at my previous address that I haven't lived at in 3+ years... Now I'm told my $123 is sitting as a credit on that old account/address and in 3-4 weeks I can call for a refund... Apparently today they are setting up my new account at my new address and once again I'm told I'll get my cans next week... they refused to bring them any sooner... Republic has been inept and supremely unhelpful: "Customer service" reps who cannot do a thing but make promises of action and follow-up that just do not occur, indifferent collection staff who do not have a care in the world about missing my bins ( and those reps again, who cannot or will not address it, nor will they adjust my bill to compensate). For a lark, I went nationwide and found that few garbage collection services have the poor reviews that Republic flies like a "congrats" banner. If Republic is at the bottom in the country then they must be lower than that by a true Salem measure. Good grief, it's garbage, just take it away. Just bought a new house that wasn't currently getting garbage service. Every online resource showed Republic as the contracted garbage company for my address but when I called (4 times) I kept getting told they do not service my address. On the fourth call, a supervisor finally got on the line and advised she would have to send my request to the local office for resolution. I recently wanted to upgrade to a 64-gal cart, and it was delivered the first week of February 2022. I called customer service and because I wanted to confirm the cost of my 64 gal can and I was told $63.60. When I called to get a larger can the customer service person told me $58.00 in my area: she said the cost depends on where you live. My service is every other month, so the 2nd customer service person tells me its $63.60 and he says it looks like someone changed you to monthly billing. I said it every other month he said he would fix that. He also said that they were charging me for a can exchange fee of $18.00 I said I have changed cans before and have not ever had to pay a can exchange fee. He said he would remove that for me as well. I got a bill today for $134.53 Its a monthly bill and they are charging me two times for my old can in February for $46.40x2 the 20-gal container they picked up and also changing me $63.60 for the new can that I received for 02/2022 and that can exchange fee is still on there of $18.00. Horrible customer service the person I spoke to did not do anything he said he would. I have looked for other ways to dispose of my trash, even asked other companies if they could pick it up. I live in West Salem and wish I could pick my own trash company. When businesses no longer have any competition service becomes consistently poor. We should ban together and try to do something about this. Since the Monopolizing company has outed its competitors from the area, the company stops making corporate efforts to sell a better-quality products and services to at lower prices to consumers. We have a schedule of 2 pickups per week for our business. That's all well and good, except that we have a lock on the dumpster to try to keep people out. We have had to leave it unlocked because the driver gets to our business earlier than someone gets here in the morning to unlock it. That was fine for awhile until one of our neighbors who lives across the street complained of people digging in our trash and strewing it everywhere including her yard, and even leaving dirty needles in her yard and in the area. So we called Republic to ask them to have us on a later route, even 30 minutes later than they have been picking up, so we have time to get someone here to unlock the dumpster before the driver gets here. They did that for about two weeks and now they are back to picking us up too early for our managers to unlock it, leaving us with missed trash dumps! So I called again to raise our request again, and first I was told that it would be $3.50 per dump to give our driver a copy of our key so he can unlock the dumpster himself, and they will also ask the service manager to put us on a later route. The service manager called me back and said no, we can't be on a later route because it's just happenstance when our driver gets here. I told her about the $3.50 and said that's a little much, and she said no, that's not a thing. What is a thing is a $13.00 lock that we buy from them and the driver can unlock it every dump. TL;DR: I have been told opposite answers multiple times by multiple people. This is what happens when there is a monopoly on services; they don't care about what's going on and your issues will never be solved. read more

It is too bad that you are the only choice for garbage removal for this part of town. HORRIBLE customer service. My recycling can has not been emptied in over a month! When i called to complain the receptionist tells me someone will be out this morning. Nope! Did not happen! When I called again she could not find my address. Really? I can assure you my whole house has not moved. My landlord has also called and I hope she cannot find her checkbook when it's time to pay you bunch of idiots! I've had awful experience with this company. They continue to skip our pick up each week. Each week I call and the staff is friendly as they ask us accusatory questions about "whether we had our cart out on time or in the right place." Even though we must pay our bill, we have to beg to get them to actually haul away our refuse. I can't believe we're obligated to do business with a company that charges for non-performance. Our recycling is frequently missed, as well as our neighbor's cans. Having missed us again this past week, we called - they said they'd be out in 2 days - and of course missed us AGAIN. Called THREE more times, were given 2 additional days for pick-up, and failed to come by twice more! Honestly, I don't know what level of ineptitude a company has to rise to, but this is simply inexcusable. I should mention they often leave our empty containers sitting out in the road. For this, we have seen our rates rise twice now in under 3 years. read more

I wish I could post pictures of the emails I've received as well as my past account. I cancelled this service before August 2020. On August 20, 2020 I had a credit of -$27.40. The company owed me money now November 20, 2020 I receive a statement of $27.40 and was told in the letter on November 27, 2020 that says, "Final Notice...Unfortunately, we must turn your account over to Collections unless full payment is received within ten (10) days from the date of this notice..." This letter was dated November 19, 2020. If I didn't pay this erroneous bill right after receiving it I risked going to collections. This company needs to get its act together and be more professional if it's going to be a business. I had no issues before cancelling but the crap they've put me through after selling my house and moving has been awful. I wouldn't recommend them if you can help it. I did send them an email right when I received the letter but I have yet to hear back. read more

Horrible Horrible company. I don't use their service but yet every Tuesday on garbage day I can count on having garbage spread across my front yard from when they pick up and empty the neighbors can into the truck. Dirty paper towels, tissues, food wrappers, papers etc. and no the neighbor's cam is NOT overflowing. I finally had enough of picking up garbage on my lawn from their gross negligence and complete lack of care after several complaints. So I've called and reported it several times, literally spent hours on the phone have multiple case numbers and every time I've called I get the same BS story about how they apologize and will have someone contact me and how they will come pick it up "should be within 24-48 hours" Guess what they have NEVER contacted me and have NEVER showed up to pick up the garbage. It's my next move is to contact the Salem PD and explain the situation to press offensive littering and criminal mischief charges as well making several phone calls to the Salem city council and the mayor's office as well as attending a council meeting to speak on it with the digital evidence to support it. I realize things aren't perfect but I'm fed up and tired of picking up the neighbors trash from when it blows out as the truck arms dump it into the truck. Great Job Salem on awarding a contract to a company that has ZERO customer service and one that doesn't care one bit about the trash they cause to blow down the streets from their pick ups when they're supposed to be a company keeping the trash off the streets. Glad I have connections to the City Council and the Mayors office, they will be getting an earful from me and a few others until they come clean the trash off my lawn and fix their issues.
