SO much to say about Evo. I'll try to keep it short and sweet, but I doubt I can keep my praises to a minimum. My husband and I have 2 things going against us: complicated work schedules as a firefighter and nurse practitioner, and 2 young children. I was really interested in getting into a box somewhere because I have friends who love their workouts in the Long Beach and San Diego areas. I needed something to motivate me into getting myself physically stronger, leaner, and healthier. As an NP, I had already taken care of patients who had suffered from rhabdomyolysis (destruction of muscle tissue that can cause organ damage), not to mention many pain management patients who have herniated discs from lifting anything! I was determined to find a place that focused on proper training, not just getting it done and getting the big number up there. Any physical injury to myself, and more importantly my husband, could be detrimental to our current careers. I took tours of 4 boxes near us and was just turned off by some of things I saw. I won't go into detail because I'm sure they're good places, just totally not for me. We came across Evo after our kids got out of their summer camp, and Sam and Jason were around to give us information. Jason took us on a little tour around the area and we were already impressed with what we saw and what we heard. Luckily for us, they took our son (he's 3) and daughter and started them in hapkido. Brandon was fantastic taking Joe and I into crossfit. He, along with Walter, Mario, and Sam, did (and STILL do) a phenomenal job making sure that we're doing things efficiently, effectively, and safely. There's so much attention on focus on each individual that it's really pretty similar to private training sessions. Didn't think I'd get addicted, but I did! They have something called an on ramp program which allows you to work on proper form and technique before you join the regular classes. I couldn't be more grateful for that. There's constant observation by the coaches to help with proper form to minimize risk of any injuries. Jason focuses on the hapkido classes and, along with AJ, they have taken our children to a whole different level. Our kids love their lessons. I can see them smiling as they learn and enjoying every minute of it. Our son had the most difficult time listening and keeping still. Almost 3 months later, he's MUCH more calm and listens to us, both with Mr Jason and at home, although he's still a work in progress. Our daughter went from being quiet and lacking confidence to speaking louder and being more sure of herself. So its not just the martial arts and physical strength they're focusing on. It's confidence and discipline. Those are things that everyone could use help in when raising their children. Both kids ask if they're going to hapkido on a daily basis. i love that I don't feel like I'm forcing them. If anything, they force me to get there after a hard day's work! As if that isn't enough, the crossfit classes and the hapkido classes run concurrently, so while the kids are in hapkido, we're in crossfit! totally a win win! Evo focuses on some awesome aspects of life: physical fitness and conditioning, self defense, discipline, respect, and confidence. And its not just for our children, it's for all 4 of us. This is a great place. My husband and I discovered it through a coupon special and we couldn't be happier. We signed up for 10 Crossfit classes and will be continuing after we're through. The location serves a dual purpose. You can take a martial arts class or Crossfit. We've taken classes with Brandon and Allison and both have been excellent teachers taking the time to demonstrate proper form so no one gets hurt and watching as you execute the exercises. They have a Crossfit intro class called Crossfit on Ramp which is set up to introduce you to the various workouts and they have regular Crossfit. Both classes are a challenge. I first heard of EVO through some friends who had recently left our beloved gym to try out this new "Crossfit " thing. I was very apprehensive about joining because of torn meniscus issues and all those crazy injuries I had read about in articles due to "crossfit". I waited almost a whole year before I called EVO and spoke to Jason about what accommodations they offered at the gym for people like me. Jason was super friendly and helpful. He let me know there were modifications that could be made to just about everything. AND if I was not comfortable doing a specific movement due to pain, it could be substituted. Still hesitant, I joined only after receiving a groupon certificate from one of my friends and have only one regret: Not joining sooner! EVO has challenged me and made me a stronger person than I was a year and a half ago. I have achieved fitness goals that I was not able to achieve in a regular gym or with a personal trainer. Everyone at EVO is like a big family and it truly is a pleasurable place to come and workout. The people here are very encouraging and this helps keep everyone motivated towards their fitness goals. The coaches are very knowledgeable and do all they can to help you achieve the right form in order to succeed. I love this box and it has truly become a second home for me. My daughter attends the Evolution gym in the tiny tigers class. She has been attending for a couple months but I am thoroughly pleased with our experience so far! The whole staff has been extremely polite and easy to work with. Since my daughter has been attending the classes she has learned to listen better and able to memorize things easier. I think that is attributed to her having to memorize positions and different types of punches. Her balance has also gotten tremendously better which will help her to be more coordinated. If you're thinking about signing your child up, I would highly recommend them, while most places only offer a one day trial, they offer 10 days, which is great. The gym is also clean and well ventilated which is a plus. I was surprised to see how organized the staff is and how smoothly run the classes/belt test ceremonies are. Update: I love this box! I have been a member for 3 years and I am so proud of the progress I have made with the help from Coach Walter, Mario, and Brandon. I conquered my first handstand, rope climb and DU's (double unders) which I couldn't be happier about considering I was never able to do any of that! I look forward to the upcoming new year to see what I can accomplish next. The staff here is great. They conveniently pre order my favorite protein supplements from Progenex and have new EVO shirts every few months. I always look forward to the WOD and working out with awesome people who are motivated and who encourage me when I need that extra push. If you thought about trying crossfit, do it here! I started crossfit a few months ago and I gotta tell you, I love it! My friend told me about EVOMAA and I'm so glad she did. At first, I was a little nervous about lifting heavy weight but the coaches made it easy for me to follow the movements. That's what I like most, at EVOMMA everyone is welcomed. My daughters (ages 5 and 10) have been attending Hapkido classes at Evolution for over two years now and they absolutely love it. Both of them are progressing in their martial arts skills, while cultivating focus, determination, and confidence as they move up the ranks of the various colored belts. This is definitely not a "belt mill" martial arts studio. The kids learn legitimate skills before they are allowed to test and earn the next belt. The studio is clean and spacious with plenty of seating for parents and siblings to watch classes; or parents even have the option of taking a Crossfit class while their kids are in Hapkido! There is also a dedicated area for siblings to do homework or hang out and have a snack. Honestly, I can't say enough wonderful things about Evolution! The instructors are personable and skilled and truly care about the children. All of the parents I have met are friendly and down to earth, and I feel as if I have connected with some lifelong friends. I am so thankful for my "Evolution family." I have so far enjoyed my introduction to all that is CF and appreciate Brandon and Sam for their patience and thorough explanation on lifts and the importance of proper form. My husband and I started Crossfit a few months ago at Evolution. We were really looking for a gym that was easy-going but motivating. And that's exactly what we found. I never felt intimidated by the other members, everyone helped us get accustomed to the Crossfit culture, but yet we were motivated and pushed during each workout. Jason made a huge difference for me. He is no-nonsense while also caring. He challenged me during every workout, and most of all, was present. We wasn't on his phone or busy talking to others. For that hour I was in there, he was right there with me. He is super knowledgeable and you can tell he enjoys what he does. Added bonus? He is a wonderful martial arts instructor for the kids too! Came in on a Groupon deal I couldn't refuse in April... $39.00 for one month unlimited Crossfit. I was looking to change up my fitness routine from running to something that involved more weight training and I was always interested in how Crossfit uses weights/gymnastics/calisthenics ... so I decided to at least give it a try for the month with hopes to learn all that I could and use whatever I learned on my own since the cost for Crossfit ANYWHERE IS NOT CHEAP... Fast forward to now... I'm on my 4th month here at Evo... addicted to killing myself 5 days a week in the name of Crossfit and I found a way to deal with the cost of this addiction. I know they aren't the biggest, don't have all the latest equipment, and don't have trainers competing in the games. Like a lot of people, I was hesitant to try out Crossfit because i have a bad knee and back issues. My sister has been a member for a while, and she kept explaining to me that I just had to try it, and that i'm sure i would end up liking it. I took the beginner's course in January, and found that while challenging, it was very fun and something that i saw myself able to do. The coaches here are extremely helpful, and have found ways for me to get better in all the things that we do. I've visited other gyms, and while they were nice, they don't have the personal feel that Evo has. Every class is like having a personal trainer, and every class has some great people to work out with. And everyone is so supportive! So not only do you get a super intense workout, but you get to meet some really cool and good people. Glad I joined. In August 2014 I made a decision to get healthy and fit, so I started to look on yelp for MMA course and found Evolution MMA and crossfit. I had be thinking about trying crossfit as will. I saw it some reviews, but all of them were great reviews. After two year I can see why they had all great reviews. Prior to joining Evo, I didn't have any sense of commitment or a support system. This place helped be committed to my goal because of the support system there. When I first met my fellow athletes, they were all willing to help, motivate, and see me improving. There is no competition among one another, the only competition u have is with urself, that was one of first things I heard. They welcome me into their community with open arms like I was family. The people and environment is only half of it. The coaches there are simply amazing. They care about you, they care about ur goals, they care about ur development, they just care. I don't know about you, but CrossFit has always seemed pretty intimidating to me. I decided to give it a try at Evo, and could not be happier that I did. Evo has a 4-week on-ramping course that prepares you to safely complete Olympic-style weightlifting and introduces you to the different styles of workouts you might see during the regular classes. One of my biggest concerns going into all of this was being pressured to do things I just couldn't do and ultimately hurting myself. The coaches at Evo are amazing, though, and encourage you to evaluate your own abilities and do modified workouts as necessary, while also pushing you to the next level. I have a fused spine, so there are certain exercises I can't do, but the coaches always remember this and help me figure out alternative or modified exercises. Speaking of the coaches, YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!! They all knew my name after only one class and continue to be so incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It is such a positive atmosphere that you'll want to go back even just for the great people (coaches and classmates included). Be warned, they remember when you don't come to class, so be prepared for some serious accountability! But really, if you are looking to do CrossFit and want to have a great time doing it, Evo is the place to go! read more

My husband and I checked out several other schools before finding Evolution Martial Arts Academy. One school was strict on their selection process, another didn't even greet or acknowledge us and some were just too expensive for classes that were only offered twice a week. We knew about Evolution Martial Arts through a friend of ours and heard so many great things about the school. We decided to take our 4 year old to try out the free trial class and were pleasantly surprised that they offered 2 free weeks of classes, more than enough time to decide if he liked it. He's normally quiet and shy around strangers but he had so much fun during his first class and was so excited to join. Two months have passed and he's now an orange belt in the Tiny Tigers program. The program and the instructors are great and the kids learn more than just martial arts...they learn discipline, character building, teamwork and respect. We already see his confidence growing, and at four years old, he's already making goals for himself to get the black belt someday. We feel confident that the instructors will provide the knowledge and foundation he needs to achieve his goals, all while helping to shape his character. The best part of this whole experience is that our son is having fun and looks forward to taking class with other kids in his age group. We're so glad we found this school and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, clean and safe environment for their kids to learn martial arts. read more

I just want to take the time to thank this studio for all they do they for both my children. We have been with them for about a year now and have seen such an improvement in our children in regards to focus, discipline and concentration. They love coming each week to class and love and respect the instructors. We have managed to attend a few of the events the studio has put on such as movie night and fundraiser night at CPK. I found Evolution Martial Arts through Groupon two months ago. After researching and calling numerous places, I finally came across one that not only had good customer service, but also reasonable prices for beginner Crossfit classes. Jason, one of the co-owners of Evolution Martial Arts, gave me all the information I needed over the phone. The 4 week beginner Crossfit class requires students to attend 3 times a week. Brandon, the other co-owner, teaches the Crossfit classes. Brandon is nice and easy going, he walks the studio to check on the students, making sure that that the students are keeping good form when doing their WODs. On the first day of class, students receive a packet explaining the workouts to expect for the month. Two weeks into my intro Crossfit class, I asked to try out the adult Hapdiko class that is held 3 times a week. The class is taught Jason who is friendly and funny. Luckily for me, he is also very patient with me since it is a struggle to do some of the moves because of my lack of balance and flexibility. Everyone at the gym is super friendly; they make you feel like you are a part of one big family. By the end of the beginner Crossfit class, everyone knows each other by their names. I just recently signed up for their month to month unlimited plan, which in my opinion, is the best bang for your buck. You get to do both Crossfit and Hapkido all for one price. read more

Favorite workout to date! As a mom of twins I've tried so many different workouts over the years to help me get in shape but until I tried Crossfit I never really saw huge results this quick. It has completely transformed my body & made me so much stronger! I was very intimated at first to even try Crossfit because I've never really been into weight lifting. I've always stuck to Pilates, Cardio Bar & Spin. I'm doing things now that I never thought in a million years I could do! The coaches here are so patient, knowledgeable & helpful! They have one-on-one training to teach you how to properly lift to avoid injury. There's always someone by you making sure you are doing it right. They really do care! It has now been a year and a half since my family and I have joined EVO and it has been a fantastic experience. All the staff make it an extremely family-like environment and they all work very hard for all of their customers. The hapkido program has brought out the best in my children's discipline and self confidence.
