I have to say hand on heart they are a breath of fresh air in the industry and if you are a landlord having constant issues with your current agent, take my advice and dump them as they never improve. Having attempted to sell this property for over a year, without success, I reluctantly became a landlord and am now very glad I did so. I approached several letting agencies but went with 9% Property Management because they made the first and immediate reply. I remain very happy that I did so. As a newcomer to this field, I was grateful to be taken in hand in a friendly manner and made aware of the essentials needed from me as a responsible landlord. These tasks completed, they found and vetted excellent tenants, who moved in less than three weeks after my initial approach to 9%. It has been truly hassle free I think seamless is the current phrase. 9% Property Management continue to manage this let in their unobtrusive but efficient manner. The rent is paid directly into my bank account monthly. The tenants are happy. I am happy.

Newton were my letting agency for 4 years while I lived in Battlefield, and all things considered…read morethey had been the best letting agent I had dealt with until then (and believe me, there had been a few dodgy ones). When I started my tenancy, I had been with Charles White Property Management, which was bought over by Newton and the staff transferred. My details and deposit information went over without any hiccups that I was aware of - the Safe Deposits Scotland scheme had yet to be rolled out at this point, so it was a bit of a concern. Pros - I would be informed in writing at the start of the year when inspection dates were, so there were never any surprises. - If I had a problem, I could usually reach someone that day - Out of hours plumbers were great. Cons - Communication and coordination between tenant, contractors and third parties involved in incidents need improved. Let me explain. The worst issue while I lived was the leak that was ongoing for several months. The leak didn't affect me directly, but it was seriously damaging my downstairs neighbours bathroom, which was under my kitchen which was once a bathroom! Several factors fed into this ongoing issue... the first was that several plumbers couldn't find the source of the leak. I had plumbers from the agency, plumbers from the factors, and environmental health had to get involved. I believe that the agency handled it as best they could. In the end it turned out there were leftover pipes containing water from my kitchen's former life. It required carpenters, plumbers and coordination between the factors and the letting agency. But at last, the headache was over!! During this saga, communication wasn't the best. They would tell my neighbour that plumbers were coming, possibly assuming she'd tell me, but I wouldn't find out about it until I was about to leave for work to find a plumber on my doorstep. And vice versa to my downstairs neighbour. So many wasted trips from the plumbers could have been avoided if we'd both been notified at the same time! This was a blip in an overall pleasant tenancy. All in, this is a fair and decent letting agent. You know where you are with these guys, and with flat inspections being a necessary evil for the tenant, it is especially useful to be notified in advance. More agencies should do it!!!

I have the misfortune of living under a flat which is let by DJ Alexander. I recently experienced flooding through my ceiling causing damage to paintwork and ruining personal items. I was initially told by DJ Alexander that this was the fault of the tenants due to them not closing the shower door properly and was assured I would be reimbursed for the cost of the repainting and personal items. I was later told that no reimbursement would be forthcoming as it was an "accident" and due to insurance excess I am now out of pocket. As a tenant I would be concerned about the type of landlord they work with and as a landlord I would be concerned about due diligence carried out in relation to tenants.

They sent people to the view the property whilst I was still in the process of moving out, without informing me. Got back to the flat to clean up and viewing agent just stood there asking me if I was there to view. I spent the best part of a week and a half cleaning the place. Still not heard back on my deposit, they mentioned dirt on exterior of windows and was quoting £160 minimum. Not sure how this company is for landlords but if you are a prospective tenant you would be better off finding another company. Parasitic service that will drain financially and emotionally.
