My mother and I found a, what we thought to be a perfect, renovated duplex in a area we love. The place is fairly old, so we expected a few issues here and there, but no big deal since we're renting and Renters 1st Choice promises to fix any problems we encounter...right? Unfortunately, we were very very mistaken. We gradually paid all of our deposits, including a $400 pet deposit for my dog and we soon began moving in all of our belongings, setting up internet and cable, etc. We found this property in APRIL, which is when we paid our first deposit and is also when we sent in our few maintenance repair requests. As we were moving things in we gradually encountered more and more problems. These problems consist of, but not limited to, 3 portable AC units that are built to cool rooms that are maybe 8 x 10 feet (this place is mostly open, very few doors, over 1,000sqft, and has 12ft ceilings) and the excuse for not wanting to replace these units was that they are "working". Yes, they are functioning, but no, they are EXTREMELY ineffective for the space we are living. It will be getting up past 100 degrees in the next few days and we STILL have NO REPLACEMENTS. We are lucky we have not sold our house yet! Continuing with the issues: pocket door does not close fully (required because a rom connected to this will be a bedroom), siding falling off of porch door, old and unusable stove (internal light never shuts off and there is a "vent" in one of the burners and would make our already hot house even hotter), MIXED WIRING (we are apt. B and we would be paying for apt. A's electric because of how it was set up) and the wiring was apparently inspected TWICE by a "master technician", and a an UNINSTALLED GAS LINE for apt. A in the basement that has been continually leaking gas for who knows how long. As I mentioned, these are only SOME of the issues that James refuses to professionally acknowledge. He will even go DAYS without calling, texting, or emailing back. Again, we began these maintenance repair requests in APRIL and it is almost JULY. Luckily we have no signed the lease yet and will NOT be doing so until it becomes a livable environment. We have never been treated by a company so poorly and it is annoyingly unfortunate because we love this home and would love to actually be able to live in it! This whole experience has been very sad to say the least.
Explanation of some photos not mentioned above:
Two keys left on our knee wall at old house with no attached letter saying what they were for. Supposed to be for front door and pocket door (which requires a skeleton key), turns out they belong to no door in the house.
Dryer's metal vent tube to way too long and makes dryer protrude off the wall in a very inconvenient way. read more
