I needed help with my rent registration for a single family rental home that I own in DC. I paid $99.00 to Rent Jiffy last August to guide me through it. I got no service for weeks. Then Jonathan sent an email apologizing and luckily there was an extension to the due date. I paid another $99.00 which Jonathan eventually said I would get back after more delays and lack of communication. I finally started the whole process over myself with the DC government, which was also VERY SLOW, but I was able to get my certificate finally in February, 2026. I got no money back from Rent Jiffy. This was a total nightmare for me because I was trying to get help to do it correctly and could not get anything done. read more

I went online to set up a scheduled phone call with them for today weeks ago. Waiting. Waiting. The phone call was supposed to happen at noon. Nothing. It is scheduled. No return call. It is now 12:06, no phone call. They are pathetic. read more

This service has been terrible. I'm currently in the process with them, and they do not answer calls or e-mails in a timely fashion. Even worse, they insist that I upload documents instead of e-mailing them, but they do not explain where or how to upload them, and it's not on their website or FAQs. So I'm stuck. I've asked for clarifications, and they e-mail me the same directions as before, still with no explanation of how to upload. The DC inspector is coming to my house next week, and RentJiffy says they'll charge me a penalty fee if I've not uploaded the documents by then. They're supposed to cut through the red tape, but in my experience, they just create more and charge for the privilege of doing so. Don't make the same mistake I did by hiring them. Hopefully the owner can respond here and fix the problem, because neither he or his employees respond in a helpful way via phone or e-mail. read more

Reported to BBB. They are ghosting me. They double billed me for registered agent services. I requested a refund three weeks ago and they no longer respond to emails. They don't answer calls. I used their call scheduling feature, and they didn't call as scheduled. Now, they're trying to bill me again for registered agent. I can't reach them at all. I've previously used RentJiffy for years with no issues. I don't know what's going on but their service has markedly deteriorated. read more

I used their service to license a single unit in DC as I was moving from the area. The licensing process went smooth, but the unit did not pass inspection as the tenant had decided to use a den as a bedroom. The den was not rented as a bedroom, and it doesn't seem as if it should be inspected as such. In asking for advice on how to move forward, I was told that they cannot give advice as they are not a law firm. Though the initial application, forms and especially payment went smoothly with Rent Jiffy, once there was a problem with the process the company did not appear too helpful. I was told that they did their job because they secured my license, but the inspection days later, which they attended, is to KEEP the license active. So basically, not their problem. On their website Rent Jiffy claims to be "the one stop shop for all your Property License needs. We easily ensure you meet the compliance requirements without dealing with all the government bureaucracies." This quickly appeared to be an oversell as I am still emailing with the government bureaucracy. I would not recommend them to a friend in a similar situation due to lack of comprehensive service for the cost (single unit, educated individual, and in driving distance from DC). read more

Anyone who has ever had to deal with the incompetent insanity that is DC government bureaucracy not only appreciates, but depends on, companies that will take that headache away from you. In 2011 we bought a historic property zoned commercial/residential. No one ever bothered to mention anything about registering the building with DCRA and our experience with DC (as both business and property owners) is that DC not only doesn't bother telling you what's required of you, they make it virtually impossible to find out all the details on your own (either by phone or online) and then fines you when you don't do whatever it is you didn't know about in the first place. So when we were ready to sell the building at the end of 2013, we learned we couldn't until it was registered with DCRA, which meant getting current certificates of occupancy. This building is 115 years old. The MOST RECENT C of O was issued in 1995, and 2 others were issued in the 1950's!! Going through that process would have been a horrible ordeal that would have taken years and cost thousands of lives, but Jonathan and his crew got it done in 3 months -- and that INCLUDED a major shakeup in the inspections part of the process -- so really this was probably considered a lengthy one by their standards. I loved dealing with all of them at Rent Jiffy. Jonathan is a great guy who holds your hand through the whole process, Ethan is a wiz with the inspections part, and Reesa was really helpful when Jonathan was unavailable. If everything in DC ran as efficiently, smoothly and professionally as Rent Jiffy does, then I probably wouldn't have been nearly as anxious as I was to get the hell out of there. I've never really been inspired by a business to write a Yelp review before, so don't be put off by the "First Time Reviewer" label Yelp will probably give me. RentJiffy is an absolute godsend to a DC property owner looking to become a landlord. Before I discovered them, I fumbled through disorganized pages of the DC government website, phone calls with DC government employees, just to figure out what exactly I needed to do to become compliant. Like other reviewers have stated, it's almost as if they don't want you to be legal by subjecting you to all these layers of mind-numbing bureaucracy, just so they can hit you with (more lucrative) fines later. It was a huge waste of time, and it would've been an even bigger waste of time had I continued down the path of trying to do it all myself. RentJiffy, fortunately, has this all down to a science. Their website is very straightforward to use. Just fill out some basic questions, and at the end of the process, all the necessary forms will be filled out and submit electronically. Plus, the price, which includes the filing costs to DC, makes it a complete no-brainer. The real star of the business is not the website, but rather the owner of the business, Jonathan. He's a real estate professional who clearly has extensive experience in navigating the murky waters that are DC rental compliance. A quick phone call with him completely eased all my anxieties relating to what turned out to be a pretty simple process. Just a couple short weeks later, I had my license delivered to my email box. Rentjiffy seems to be the only company in DC that provides the service they provide. I am happy they exist. One caveat--I have missed their emails before because they communicate almost exclusively through form emails from the sender "rentjiffy support." These emails often contain critical information and they are sent only one time. If you miss the one email, the consequences can be very expensive. We own two properties in NW DC (a 3-unit and a single-family house) and needed assistance with bringing them up to "code" or legal compliance. Of particular difficulty was the 3-unit. Although it was separately metered, it came with a Certificate of Occupancy for two units only. We considered tackling this job on our own but very quickly realized that this process was not for the faint of heart. The number of different DCRA divisions involved in the process and the rate at which regulations and requirements change is very high. This is when three people who know DC market and regulations well - our realtor, an owner of a DC-based rental management company, and a real estate attorney - all very strongly recommended Rent Jiffy. Jonathan and his team at Rent Jiffy successfully guided us through what could be easily described as doing business in "Alice in Wonderland." The process was not easy, at times it defied logic, but after several DCRA inspections, we received the coveted Certificate of Occupancy and a Business License. Throughout the process Jonathan and his team were very patient, responsive, and, most importantly, effective, as they were dealing with our frustration and bewilderment. We are very pleased with their services. In short: Rent Jiffy is to DCRA, what GPS is to driving. I took one look at the forms required for renting out a place in DC and realized I had no idea what I was doing, so I decided to try RentJiffy... so glad I did. The service was fantastic... they were prompt, helpful, and even pointed out some things I would have missed otherwise. And the price is incredibly reasonable considering how helpful they are. On top of all that, I've also heard stories about how difficult it can be to deal with DCRA directly, so being able to bypass all that and know that the forms will be filled out correctly the first time is huge. I never post reviews but Rent Jiffy is an amazing company with such phenomenal customer service, I wish they owned businesses beyond DC property management. We are temporarily relocating to another city and we used Rent Jiffy to help with the DC business licensing and inspection process for renting our a single family home. We had a little snag in that we need some modifications completed before we could pass the inspection process so we tried to put our business license on hold. However, it was too far along in the process and our business license was issued so we are pushing up against the 90-day inspection deadline. Jonathan is so knowledgeable and customer service focused, he assured us that Rent Jiffy would take care shepherding us through the entire inspection process including making an inspection appointment for us and then helping us with a re-inspection if necessary. He offered to have a Rent Jiffy staff person meeting the DC inspector at no charge since Rent Jiffy was not able to put a hold on our license in time. The whole transaction with Jonathan / Rent Jiffy was such a huge relief since we will be managing the home modifications and inspections from our new city. Owning and renting a property in DC can be a nightmare, especially when trying to register the property initially with DC. It's almost as if DC doesn't want you to succeed in getting legal just so they can fine you. Well after personally using Jonathan and the team at Rent Jiffy to register a rental property that I owned, I will never never never try and deal with DC by myself again when registering a property for rent. They charged a very reasonable fee and all I had to do was give them a few pieces of info, sign a few papers, and they literally did the rest for me. I did not have to write checks to DC or go down to the registration office and wait in line, or fill out a bunch of crazy DC forms...most of all in days my property was registered and legal whereas for months, almost a year I had been failing miserably on my own to get my property registered. This is a brilliant idea to help DC property owners who are looking to become landlords. I just recently used them to navigate the rental license process, and by navigate I mean that all I had to do was fill out some pretty basic info, pay the fees, submit, and get my license a few weeks later. As someone who had to go through a very quick international move and get their condo rented, this service took a lot of stress off my hands. I've never been happier to throw money at a problem to make it go away (and I believe the fees are pretty reasonable given the timely support and lack of headache received in return, as well as the fact that they already include fees you'd have to pay to other DC entities anyway).
