This RAC rented a TV to an individual who is legally physical and mentally disabled, filled out the form for him, and locked him into paying for a TV ($600) for payments of $86 dollars a month with no credit check, just a phone call to me (his older brother). I informed them that there was no way he could pay for this, but they were only concern with the business. My brother was only concern with getting a TV, and is not able to understand the details, as he watches a lot of TV I spoke to a manager who was extremely rude, and did not seem to care that my brother has physical and metal limitations. The rent a center located in El Cajon, CA has been contacting my references numerous times on the same day that I paid my payment that was due on the same day. Then when a few days later they showed up to my place and threatens and harassed my roommate who also has a major hear condition and demanded that he makes my payment for me or they were going to call the police on him. They've even called him number times and threatens him over the phone as well. This company and the El Cajon, CA rent a center location have been informed by me on multiple occasions to not contact my references and to not contact me while I'm at work. The did not listen and still continue to do whatever they please to try and collect payment on this contract. They have also been informed that my roommate who is only a reference and not a cosigner has a heart condition and was informed to not contact him and that any stress could cause him to have another massive heart attack and could kill him. My roommate is looking to get an attorney and sue rent a center for harassment and unwanted threats.due to covid lockdowns and stay home order and my roommate being put out of work because of his condition thing have been tight. I know I'm overdue on my payment and have tried to make arrangements with them and they still demand that I make my payment immediately even after informing them that I have lost hours at work due to this whole shutdown. His statement to me was that this was my problem and not theirs and that I have to pay then regardless or return the item I'm making payments on and have my contact cancelled even though I've payed more than half of the contract which is more than what the item was worth to begin with. This company has been heartless and uncaring about their customers and endangering one of my reference's life to try and collect with making the statement "I will call whoever I want whenever and however I want or deem necessary". I would recommend to anyone looking to do business with rent a center to use your funds otherwise and buy your items somewhere worthy of your time and money and would appreciate your business. The reason I gave one stare is because there was no option for no stars or negative stars and I would not have even given one star, but had no choice inorder to leave a review. I know this pandemic has caused some people to lose there customer service skills and general lack of concern for people. First off. I would leave 0 stars if i had the option to do so! I am not one to leave negative reviews at all, but After the experience i encountered with a Rent-a-Center employee yesterday i had to share. So its about 4pm in el cajon an we are in the house with the door shut to keep the house cool and all of a sudden there was not a knock but a BANG at tha door. The BANG was extremely loud like it was a police officer at the door or something like that. Definitely startled us like who the heck is knocking on the door like this. So we open the door and its a gentleman named Michael, so he said. He tells us we are 9 days past due on a refrigerator that we leased a year ago. I tell him next time to use the door bell and please dont bang on the door like you just did. He then rudely asked when will we be able to make a payment on the refrigerator. (Which is the final payment of 130$) we tell him we can make the payment next wk. he then calls his manager and spends about 10 mins on our porch on the phone with his manager and once he gets off of the phone he tells us he has to take the refrigerator. We ask why would you take the refrigerator when we have only One payment left on it and he replied saying "this wk 20 people were not at the address that was listed for them" (what that has to do with me i dont know) an since you have been late with a few payments my manager told me i have to take the fridge". Im like its a pandemic going on and times are hard for people and you want to take our fridge over the last late payment of 130$ + 5$ late fee. Definitely wont be giving my business or recommending people to this business. Very poor customer service skills, very unprofessional and a complete disregard for people and the situation we are all currently suffering through. read more

After being told the application process would take a maximum of 24 hours I decided to walk in after the 5th day to retrieve my $60 down payment for a PS4 (Christmas gift) I was told they wouldn't refund my $60 and I was pretty much stuck. I opted for a club membership that would allow our family multiple discounts throughout San Diego for Movies, food etc.... I still don't have my membership card, though it was promised to be mailed out a month ago. The staff is beyond rude. Extremely uneducated and clearly has no idea how to run a business and clueless to the idea of customer service. Avoid this place at all costs. These people will harass you for no reason at all. Well, please do not go to El Cajon Rent a Center because they are money hungry leeches. I called in yesterday because of working in a dental office, our hours have been cut and maybe closed on Monday for 2 weeks. I have been a faithful customer of rent a center in several locations in the last 14 years. Hell most of my house and kid's as well. I told them my dilemma. Because if we are mandatory stay home, then I will need my tv. Well no remorse except the only thing Juan said was make your payment and future payment or when should we pick up the TV. The world is being forcefully closed down. We have no choice but it takes time to apply but they don't give a _uck. All he cares about is making their goal. Do not go to this location. I have spent thousands of dollars with them. Just to be told....when can we go and pick it up. Go to Aaron's Discount Store where they are working with people. And before I bought this TV, a week before we spent $4000 cash money and paid in full for living room and bedroom set at that location. Loyalty doesn't mean shit to them. Do not go to this location because only thing Juan will day no money give me pick up date. It was so great when Jason was manager. No wonder he left for better opportunities. He didn't even say, let me ask my manager etc.....Only thing that money hungry Juan says is make your payment or I will pick up. Karma is a _itch because we are in a pandemic and all companies are trying to work with customers during this time because closures are for real. Without work no money honey but I think Juan lives in a different world. I had to borrow money for the first time from my senior citizen over 76 parents just to save my tv. "Very Nice Staff That Reached Out To Save Me & MY Wife" My wife and I were on a 42 day Europe cruise when she fell and broke 3 bones in her ankle. We flew 17 1/2 hours back home to San Diego from Barcelona Spain so my wife could have a 6 hour surgery to fix her ripped up ankle. When I finally brought my wife home from the hospital 4 days later, I walked in the door opened the refrigerator and it was DEAD ! It was not running and all the food was still a little cool in the freezer, but all of the food in the refrigerator was warm. I had to throw away a lot of the food, but I decided if I could get a rental refrigerator I might be able to save some food. I called 10 different rental companies in the San Diego area and they either were already closed, or they said they would be closing at 7:00pm, and could not help me because it was already 6:30pm when I called. I then called the Rent -A-Center in El Cajon at 6:45pm on that Saturday night, and spoke with Jason the Manager. I explained to Jason what had happened with my wife and the refrigerator, and that I needed a refrigerator to rent BADLY. Jason listened to my story and even though it was less than 15 minutes before they were closing, he said he would send 2 of his employees over to my house after they closed, to deliver me a rental refrigerator. At about 7:30pm a Rent-A-Center truck pulled up to my garage. Veronica & Chris were so nice as they delivered the rental refrigerator to me, asked about my wife's condition, and had me sign the paperwork. The refrigerator worked very well and saved all of my remaining food until I got my broken refrigerator fixed. Chris then returned to pick the rental up, and was so nice to ask about my wife's condition again. Being that I could not have left my house that night because of my wife's medical situation, I could not believe Jason's, Chris, and Veronica's sacrifice and dedication to making a customer happy, as they worked over time to make sure I was taken care of. You just don't see businesses or anyone now days, with that type of caring and emergency situation attitude anymore. Thank You Jason, Chris, and Veronica, you guys are my TRUE HERO'S ! read more

Came with more documentation them needed Jason said we need none, filled out forms thoroughly, disclosed all, next day came to pay and pricing changed and then found out he's just incompetent and was trying to sell a secondary warranty. It gets better keep reading lol Husband went to clarify mix up in pay they fixed it said delivery Friday and it was Wednesday and they had verifications to do. With all the references I have they didn't even call them until delivery day and called me all afternoon because Jason wrote numbers wrong and needed better ones. I have him correct ones and even spoke to the people about answering and they did but wanted EVERYONE to answer which is hard. Then yes it gets worse, after making all my references answer Robert (he was handling some communication with me because I hate Jason after he changed price) proceeded to say he won't give us washer and dryer without landlord verification. 1) my landlord is almost impossible to reach on anyway 2) she doesn't work Friday and he waited to call until then...I proceeded to tell him we have or lease why can't we use it He says oh why didn't you guys use that? Well mutha trucker we brought it Jason never copied it. Robert says we can use that and copies of id and stuff so I say husband with come with all between 2-4 he says great It gets better He calls at 3.... Says he can't reach landlord so can't send me anything I repeat our situation and an irate after this telling him as I stated originally hubby is in his way and will be there by 4 he says we need landlord I remind him he's bringing lease he says the words he said at 2...oh you have a Lease ? Again?! I yell hubby goes and gets documents to the. and says they are just dumb. They show up with appliances but NOTHING to connect them no hoses or tunes although everything was supposed to be included. The guys broke pieces of our washer and dryer getting it in there's a huge chunk in my floor they leave drop off hoses and I ask aren't you installing the washer inkberry and you don't install has dryers per Jason and the man say we don't install anything and drives away. I was a couple days late on my furniture and they proceeded to stand outside my house screaming my name, banging on my door and harassing my children who walked out of the house. They were holding them hostage making them call me. I had to threaten to call the police and they told my kids that they were going to sit outside the house until I showed up. My kids were scared and held hostage in the home and these people would not leave my property. There is nothing worse than being scared in your own home and Afraid. I am a single mother and have my children this frightened and scared is unacceptable. Never ever rent from this company or have anything to do with any of the people that work there. They have lied to me and promised they would call me back to let me know what my payoff was yet they added $500 to it immediately. They are harassers and Intimidators otherwise known as bullies. If there was an option for a negative five stars I would do it. Jason at Rent-A-Center allows his employees to show up at your home and your workplace if you are a couple days late and not only harass you but your children as well. His employees held one of our kids hostage upfront made them call me and threaten to sit there until I got home. They sat outside screaming our names and cause such a Ruckus that one of the neighbors called the police. This is bullying and intimidation. Completely unacceptable and now our children are terrified in their own home. These people will return. How is this okay and a good business practice? We just call Jason at Rent-A-Center and he proceeded to tell us to grow up and that he didn't believe what happened last night really happened he would have to and I quote verify it. My girlfriend and I have never gone to rent a center before but had heard about it. My dogs decided it was a good idea to eat our couch so we decided it was time for a new one. Being so young and living paycheck to paycheck our options were limited. Our friend heard our situation and recommended Rent a center! My girlfriend and I then went to check it out not thinking we would find anything that fits our needs. Having a husky and German shepherd we had specific requirement. We told Jason (store manager) what we needed and he showed us basically a brand knew couch that was used but nothing wrong with it for $250. We got so lucky! But then we wanted to pick it up same day but we couldn't until after they closed. JASON stayed after hours to let us pick it up same day.
