My journey with chronic pain and migraine happened suddenly two years ago on Christmas Eve…read more Overnight the left side of my jaw swelled and began producing an incredible amount of burning consistent pain radiating up my head and through my ear which would eventually spread to my whole face. Soon other symptoms of diziness, blurry vision, and horrible pain in my neck flooded in. The daily pain was unbearable and after seeing countless physicians of all specialties, no one could provide a clear diagnosis or cause. I was treated with a myriad of prescription drugs and otc painkillers for all the symptoms which would soon result in an intense and consistent migraine preventing me from taking part in the most basic daily activities. When I found myself on Dr. Gong's doorstep I was depleted of energy and most of my hope that my life would ever return to what it once was. Like many, I felt I was at the edge of a dark abyss filled with life-long heavy medications and their crippling side effects. For context, I am a 25-year-old former collegiate athlete and had led a very active life until my condition. What would happen next saved my life. In a matter of weeks and now months my migraine subsided to a rare headache, all other symptoms have reduced to near nonexistnace. Dr. Gong was able to understand my condition as a whole whereas western specialists only study one piece. She was then able to treat the source of my problem as opposed to medicating sympotmatically. As I write this I still sit in utter disbelif and immense gratitude. Dr. Gong has not only treated my physical ailments, but has counseled me and led me to a deeper understanding of what a large role our mindset plays in our health. Through my treatment I have been able to take what could be filed under " most horrible experience of my life," and instead learned and grown and hopefully can help someone with similar ailments to find relief. To recommend Dr. Gong is a gross understatement. Her care for her patients as people is unlike anything I have experienced before. She provides them with steadfast confidence and comfort that a solution will always be possible. In no uncertain terms, thank you Dr. Gong for your daily pursuit of helping others!

They have Saturday clinic hours. Just as a heads up, they are very busy on Saturdays and the walls are thin, so you may hear the conversations in the hallways. The acupuncture beds are not the most comfortable. Due to the number of clients that they see on Saturdays, sometimes it feels a little rushed compared to the other 2 acupuncture places I've tried. At each visit, the practitioner will listen to your pulse and check your tongue. They will place fine needles throughout your body's meridians for about 20 minutes. At the end of your session, they will prescribe herbal teas and/or supplements. They informed me that they do not take insurance....although Aetna lists them as in network. They do give you a superbill if you want to submit a claim to your insurance. The out of pocket charge each visit was $105 (on the more expensive side in Houston). They usually recommend herbs on top of that so, expect to spend another $40 - $60 for a week's worth of herbal teas. FYI, the prices on the initial consultation has increased so expect to pay $130+ for that. I didn't have success with my primary treatment, but I had secondary benefits like sleeping better and less stress.

I remember being unsure if I could find an acupuncturist willing to treat an active cancer patient. Luckily, I did! From my initial consultation, Dr. Tsai has been incredibly empathetic to my situation and very reassuring. She took the time to understand my complex health challenges and created a treatment plan specifically for me. She has helped treat and heal me as I have gone through a mastectomy, radiation, and now in my remission phase. Dr. Tsai has helped me with so many of my symptoms/issues because of my cancer diagnosis and other issues I have been dealing with for years. She has always been honest with me and set realistic expectations, which I have really appreciated. Here are some examples of the symptoms/issues that Dr. Tsai has helped heal/alleviate: fatigue and lack of energy, nausea, acute and chronic pain, depression, sciatica pain, lymphoma arm pain, digestive issues, insomnia, and other side effects I experience due to cancer medications I now take. Dr. Tsai genuinely cares about her patients' well-being. Not only has she alleviated most of my symptoms but has also encouraged and empowered me to take charge of my wellness journey. If you are seeking relief beyond traditional medicine, I highly recommend Dr. Tsai at Lotus Wellness Center. It's been life-changing for me, and I'm grateful to have found such skilled and compassionate practitioner! *** I did not know that my medical insurance (Aetna) covered acupuncture treatments, or I would have come to be treated by Dr. Tsai a lot sooner! . Everyone, including Veterans, should take the time check to see if their insurance covers acupuncture treatments!

I initially ignored the pain , thinking it would eventually go away, but after getting a couple sleepless nights, I decided it was time for someone to examine to make sure it wasn't anything serious. I was expecting pages of insurance paperwork, a prescription for various pain medications, and an order to receive weeks of therapy and/or massages. However, I was referred to Houston Accupuncture by a friend so I made an appointment with Jannie Chiang instead of going to a traditional hospital/clinic. Within minutes of my visit, after accupressure and accupuncture, the pain was gone! No unnecessary x-rays, medications, or therapies needed. This visit has definitely changed my perspective on how I initially approach any future healthcare needs. You can tell Dr. Chiang loves her job and her sense of humor made my first visit a pleasant one. Thank you so much for all that you and your office do. After completing a detailed record of my medical history, John reviewed it with me, asking several in depth questions, and getting a better understanding of my health issues. Next, he explained to me where and why he would place the needles, and throughout the procedure made sure that I was comfortable. At the end of the visit my joint pain had decreased somewhat, and John explained that it would get better with each treatment. That was great and all, but what really ensured that I would be back is how much my mood improved. It was like a switch had been thrown. I felt calm, and for the first time in several months I experienced what can only be described as contentment. These effects have yet to wear off, and better still is that I have been consistently sleeping through the night. I have read several studies that failed to find any evidence that acupuncture is effective in treating mood disorders, but I can attest to the fact that it worked for me. While there is the possibility of the placebo effect, I am skeptical of this because I didn't go in to be treated for my mood disorders. I only expected some relief from my physical pain, but the actual effects were much more encompassing. I am on several antidepressants and other drugs, but at best, they only get me through the day. Acupuncture on the other hand, provided instantaneous and dramatic change for the better. If you are depressed and have tried everything else, I would recommend seeing John. I know that I will be back often to see him for treatment.

I was referred by my Yelpers friend Mark W. Few years ago, I was desperately looking for a reliable and knowledgeable acupuncturist near me. Most of them in Chinatown don't meet my basic requirements. Mark said, "try my mom." I've gotta tell you, after my first treatment I felt like someone took away a rucksack filled with rocks off of my back. I came back for sciatica pain few weeks later. This time was an acupuncture treatment. Dr. Lu's technique is very skillful. There were 2 types needles, orange one applied to my forehead and others in my belly and legs. I didn't feel any different right after. But I felt energizes after 4 hours of my usual grocery shopping. I normally take an hour nap before repackaging meats away. But that day, I had so much energy I even cooked our dinner, prepared my lunch and washed dishes. People always think Yelp is for restaurants and Yelpers are all foodies. Not so fast. There are so many non-food businesses in town that with mentioning. You may have seen my cupping photos (multiple shades of circles on my back). That is an ancient Chinese method to improve blood circulation. Once air is drawn out of a glass cup, it's applied to my back immediately. Doctor will move the cups like playing mahjong on my back. I really don't know how it works but it felt so good afterwards. The circles disappeared after a couple of days. I swam with my tank top, because I don't want to freak people out. **1st review of 2018**
