What a quaint looking restaurant. The atmosphere inside says "Sit and relax". Unfortunately the waiter , host ,with a handlebar mustache quickly removed any feelings of Welcome! We entered at 2:45 pm , Yelp says they close at 4pm. A waitress offered us a table but the Handlebar Mustache was Not agreeing with her. There were six vacant tables. There are people that shouldn't deal with customers. In an environment where customer service is everything, at that point we decided to leave . We can't even comment on the food. Sad to leave a restaurant hungry. Mr Handlebar Mustache cost your restaurant today!! Have him do another job away from customers. My eight year old grandson was reprimanded twice. If you follow my reviews, you know I am not big on breakfast. However, this place had me moaning, it was so good. It had everything to do with the green chiles in my omelet. Nose dripping awesomeness! I also was lured in by the white trash mocha- half coffee, and half hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. Pretty tasty stuff! I was not thoroughly impressed with Rendezvous. I had heard so many great reviews, but for my wife and myself it was just an average experience. We were disappointed in the value - seemed a bit on the expensive side with what was received. I got just a cheeseburger. I received a burger and a bag of chips. To upgrade to fries I would have had to pay an extra $2.20 - which would have brought the meal to almost $9.00. My wife got the cod which came with choice of fries. She chose the green bean fries - which were pretty good. The meal came with a "side salad" which ended up being a version of cole slaw (she doesn't like cole slaw). We both ended with the cobbler- which we had been told is simply out of this world. Unfortunately it was not - it reminded me of canned pie filling with a cobbler type crust. The cobbler was microwaved prior to being brought to the table (with where our table was I was able to see the waiter prepare it). With the wait people handling money and bussing tables I would hope that they are washing their hands every time they help plate the food. Service seemed slow - took a long time to order and a long time to get our food. Next time we are in Greer we will try one of the other restaurants. read more

Rendezvous Diner is our go-to spot in Greer. It is a ramshackled cabin built in 1908 and a restaurant for more than 30 years. Our favorite seats are on the low slung front porch, looking out over the meadow and mountains, shielded from the afternoon rains. The menu is American traditional with a heavy emphasis on the sandwich. We are very fond of the Reuben, but every one we've had has been a classic done well. Don't expect any gourmet flourishes, though. Just the basics. I feel that their strongest offerings are in the soup and dessert departments. The chili is always excellent, but I usually go for the soup of the day. The cool air and a steaming bowl of soup are a great match. The desserts are in the form of fruit based pies and cobblers. Save room and get a serving ala mode. There is also a good selection of beverages, including bottled beer. Service is always gracious and prompt without rushing you. The Rendezvous Diner is synonymous with Greer for us. It captures the flavor of its setting and is always a great place to relax and dine. read more

We planned on having lunch on Tuesday for our anniversary but sadly they were closed. After reading the reviews here, we were determined so we came the next day for lunch. Boy was it worth the second trip! My wife and I split a grilled ham and cheese and a bacon cheeseburger. Both were great but paled next to the blackberry cobbler and strawberry rhubarb pie we had for dessert! Everyone in the family wolfed those down. We returned the next morning for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were outstanding--we ended up ordering a second helping after splitting the first one. My daughter had the sweet roll, which was huge, and scarfed it down before anyone could even ask to try it. My other children split two pancakes, which were massive, and found them delicious as well. Aside from the food, the service was outstanding. This is exactly what you expect from sort of place: small-town hospitality. Unfortunately it's a rare thing nowadays so you have to appreciate it when you find it. If you have a chance, go! read more

A local told me to try this place over Molly's. I ate at Molly's years ago and liked it but decided to try Rendezvous. It is small and quaint and very rustic but clean. Even clean outside on patio tables. Soup of the day was split pea and tasted homemade. My sandwich had sourdough that was toasted and tasted great. The onion rings were great and it was hard to eat it all. I saw their desserts and wished I had room to try one. I would go back just for dessert. Being that you have limited options this is a cute place with mediocre food, especially for what you are paying. Our guests ranged from grandma to young grandchildren and the staff was very rude to a number of us on multiple occasions (detail below). The staff made us feel like it was a burden giving them our business, it was very disappointing. Especially since from the exterior and interior it gives a kitschy friendly feel. We literally got yelled at by who I assume is the owner (man with handlebar mustache) because we were ordering for a number of us and our waiter was confused. Once the majority of us had left the stragglers who were still eating overheard the waitress talking trash about us not knowing that we were grouped, she then continued to insist that we should pay (a second time) due to us being a "hassle." If I could give this less stars I would. I went to get breakfast to go this morning. There were others waiting ahead of me and behind me. They started seating people by parties. She never asked me how many in my party because it was just me. The lady finally got to me and I was able to tell her it was to go. She told me it'd be 10 minutes before they took my order. Ok. They then seated the parties behind me. No problem. Problem started when they took those people's order behind me that were seated. I waited another 15 minutes. The people that were waiting behind me had already had there orders taken. I saw the same lady and asked her how much longer before they'd take my order. She said another 20 minutes. All I received her was attitude. I've eaten at this place before and the food is amazing. Her attitude destroyed this place for me. I will NEVER eat at this place again because of her. read more

Four of us visited Greer for a long weekend and ended up eating here twice. The food is absolutely amazing. Everything is home cooked and tasted delicious. Between us we had soup, chili, cheese crisp, cobbler and the brownie. We loved everything so much that we decided to go back again for breakfast. Again, wonderful food. The homemade cinnamon roll was sinful, pancakes were probably the best I've ever had and when you order hot tea or coffee, you get a nice, big mug, not those little ones that so many places give you. Stopped in for lunch at 2:30 as were told upon arrival they close at 3PM. Once seated some friends approached us and stood by our table chatting for maybe 2 mins, when an old waitress leaned over the counter and shouted " you all need to be looking at the menus, we close soon"... Food arrived shortly after and then was approached several times by our waitress if we needed anything or would we be ordering desert.. basically rushing us out the door, paid bill at 3:03PM and door closed behind us. It's almost unfair, like they predicted I was planning to write a Yelp review.... No way is service this good at a restaurant under normal circumstances. No way! We walked in with our toddler just before the lunch rush and began scoping the place out. The gentleman with a respectable handlebar mustache encouraged us to take a seat near the window, but we were nervous about all the little vintage knick knacks all over the place..... With just the right amount of teasing, he made us feel welcome and comfortable before getting our orders (sold me on the special, which had a house green chile sauce). When our food arrived at the table, I was busy walking our toddler around to look at all the cool stuff on the walls and keep him quiet. I caught in the corner of my eye that the mustachioed man was conferring with the waitress on staff, after which she walked over and asked to take our son so we could eat. As soon as I realized that she really wanted to do this, I hesitantly said yes -- ready to jump up and revert to plan A, with my wife and I trading off our babysitting duties. But she was great. She even stopped by the table periodically and grabbed bits of food that only she could convince our son to eat at the time. This little bit of effort on her part was the absolute highlight of our experience here -- only other parents could possibly understand. As we finished up our lunch, I noticed that the lunch rush was beginning, so we decided to order our dessert to go and get the check. I got our toddler ready to go outside as my wife paid the check, and then I thought, wait a minute.... I returned to the table and whispered to her, "Please increase the tip to account for babysitting." She was already on it. Truly a great lunch experience that made me grateful for the familiar small town feel that Rendezvous Diner provides so excellently. Oh yeah, the food was good too. The homemade potato chips were a great complement to my open-faced turkey sandwich drizzled with green chile sauce. My wife's chicken sandwich was also good, and she said the crust on her apple pie, while not exactly conventional, was exceptional. This place has never let me down. Pros: In a spectacular setting - the heart of Greer. Food is homestyle and delicious. I had a egg and sausage burrito smothered in green sauce and it was excellent. The rest of the family had pancakes or French toast, everyone was satisfied. Went back the same afternoon to sit on the patio and have a few beers. Nothing like sipping a cold one while watching the rain fall at 8,500 feet. Their chips and salsa was surprisingly good too. Service was friendly and prompt. We were there on a Monday. It looked MUCH busier on Saturday and Sunday. Cons: If it gets really busy, the staff seems to be hustling and rushed, but that's to be expected. Parking can be tight on the weekend. read more

Usually eat here when we are in town. This time very poor customer service by a women that worked there, but was not our waitress. Told we were able to have our dog on the patio since there were no other people dining, then were yelled at from across the road never to come back for no apparent reason. Food was also mediocre. I went here a couple of times while I was in the area. The food is some of the best in the white mountain area. Try anything on the menu breakfast(warning they stop serving at 11) or lunch and you're bound to enjoy it. The most impressive item had to be the desert though. The Rendezvous Diner has been a staple of my trips to Greer since I was a kid. The service is always fast and friendly and the food is always top notch. On my most recent visit my family and I arrived right as breakfast hours were ending. We were promptly asked if we'd like breakfast or lunch. When we notified the hostess we'd like breakfast she let the kitchen know. I had their special: buttermilk biscuit topped with sausage, white gravy, scrambled eggs and green chilis. As I've come to expect it was delicious. Hot gravy, fluffy biscuit, good proportions of ingredients. Everything that would make a meal like that good. This review might sound like hyperbole but I have no affiliation with them. Just a sense of loyalty and appreciation they've earned. read more

I like this place. I don't love it, but I like it. The staff is great and I always enjoy coming for that reason. I've eaten here many times- this last trip we had the chili burger which was open faced. It was average. I had a pastrami sandwich that was super nice with a side of fried green beans. Those green beans are killer- really good. When we were in Springerville people there were even talking about them! Wings are nice as well- we got a sweet chili sauce and they were moist and juicy- better than most wings you normally get. everything was reasonably priced as well. Had a great lunch here this past weekend. Between the two of us we had the special of the day, a beef tostada and beef tamale, and the meatloaf sandwich. Everything was better than expected and oh so hearty! This place had everything you would want from a country diner, especially the blackberry cobbler! Came here for lunch the other day because it was open and we were in Greer. Should have gone somewhere else. My wife ordered a grilled cheese with a salad (my wife thought it came with fries as well, but apparently it is only one or the other). It was a plain grilled cheese. Nothing special. I ordered the special - french dip - with green beans. The bread seemed like it was soaked in butter. The meat was flavorless. The green beans were so oily that I could only eat 3-4 before they got to me. We were going to order one of their homemade cobblers, but because of the bad food, we chose to skip. We ordered To Go because they don't allow pets which I think they reminded us three times. They messed up our order and did not put the sausage we ordered in our burritos. They forgot napkins and when we got some from the dispenser on a table they acted like we were stealing them. They also forgot the salsa. They have a monopoly on breakfast because of the Molly Butler mafia that apparently does not allow competition because supply and demand would close this place. We came here based upon yelp saying it was a breakfast and brunch place. Well it is a breakfast and lunch place. Breakfast is no longer served after 11am so we were disappointed that we missed it by 15 minutes. (We assumed that since it was for breakfast and brunch, that those would be served at least until 1, like some buffet places in Vegas) Lunch was good. We had a green chili chicken tortilla soup for an appetizer and is was good. I had a burger with house chips. My green chili burger was average and the house chips were good. My wife had the pastrami sandwich which was great. She also got a white trash mocha (see pic) which was huge for the price. Other people are putting that the pie is good, but it was a little too gelatinous for me, plus my mom makes a killer strawberry rhubarb pie so I might be spoiled. I still enjoyed it with the ice cream though. Our waiter was Cliff and he was professional and nice. We hope to come back and try the breakfast which we heard was why this place was so popular. P.S. This has been our go-to every time we have been on the mountain over the past year. Service has always been great and the food has always been outstanding. Until today. Epic fail on every front. Waited 15 minutes after receiving our waters to get our order taken and when we finally spoke up, one waitress went over to ours and let her know and she replied quite madly, "WELL THEY WEREN'T READY!" And then stormed over to our table and said "Are you ready now?" We ordered a hamburger with no bun to split. She forgot to ask us how we wanted it cooked so we let her know after she left the table. We said rare to medium rare. It literally came out completely raw. We complained and she proceeded to argue with us that we apparently wanted it medium rare since that was rare. I said no that was completely raw and she kept arguing with me. When we finally got it back it was literally the blandest hamburger we've ever eaten. I won't be back and that just makes me sad because this has been such a great place until this morning. read more

When you visit Greer, you must also visit the Rendezvous Diner. I am in love with the decor, the friendly waitress who knows her stuff, and the view of the marsh and the mountains. My boyfriend had the cheeseburger which normally comes with fries but he is allergic to potatoes. The waitress whipped up fresh corn chips that were extremely fresh. Needless to say, I was impressed. I had the brownie delight. It was delightful, but I wish i had gotten the burger!! (it looked so yummy). Thanks for another great experience!!! Will be back next year, :) read more
