I have always wanted to get into Firearms and shooting but never had the motivation until the Sandy Hook Incident. As a Strong Believer in the 2nd Amendment I have jumped in with both feet. I presently own a variety of firearms but did not have the confidence to use them without training. I have taken several courses with Frank and his Great Team of Instructors at Renaissance Firearms Instruction including the Pistol Safety Course and Rifle Basic Parts 1 & 2(Part 2 is included in the cost of Part 1). Each of these classes has been informative and Instructional in the Safety and Mechanics of the "art of shooting". They offer a variety of weapons for your hands on experience and training. Class sizes are manageable and you are given plenty of personal attention during the class. Class components include classroom and range time. Frank is an EXCELLENT Instructor and his knowledge and experience oozes out of his pores. He teaches with a friendly approach that is not intimidating. Even if you have never touched a firearm in your life you would feel comfortable after your day with Frank. He quickly spots your "bad behaviors" and corrects them to help you improve your form and accuracy. Firearms are dangerous and in the wrong hands they can be deadly but all throughout the courses I have been taking the message being taught is SAFETY,SAFETY, SAFETY! From new to advanced shooters these guys are the best training instructors in NY. The best thing about Renaissance is that they keep the class size small. This allows more time to work 1 on 1 with the instructors. This is great if you are a new shooter and need help with the fundamentals The instructors are knowledgeable and take the time to answer my questions. I have now taken 4 of their classes... defensive shooting, defensive shooting 2 twice ( once with .22 then with 9mm) and NRA reloading. These classes are so much fun. Its great to get away from stationary shooting you do at the range and start moving around engaging multiple targets. You also get to test your gear out, learn what systems work and don't work for you, and have a blast learning to shoot better I really like that the classes are hands on. there's not much down time. Classes begin with brief lecture about the drills then right into shooting. Your time is spent running the drills and putting rounds down range, not listening to someone talk for 4 hours. All in all the crew here is great and you will not regret taking one of there classes. read more

Traveled from Phila PA on 6/1/14 - took a little over 3 hours to drive up and it was worth the trip! There were about 25 people in the class, and two instructors (Frank Mellonie was one and I cant recall the second name). Started with classroom instruction on gun safety and over view of 5 different rifles. Next every one went over to the range, with 25 people I thought we are not going to have the time to fire each weapon, but I was wrong. We lined up at 5 different stations, everyone was handed their ammunition, then the first two people in each line was given a magazine to load with 5 rounds. Next you stepped to the firing line, loaded magazine into your weapon and began to fire. The entire shooting experience ran like clockwork, any questions or issues were quickly resolved by both instructors and in less than two minutes back on track with shooting. From what I seen all 25 people had the opportunity to fire each weapon. For a rookie shooter, this was an outstanding well executed experience! I took the 4/8/2018 NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Class. It was well worth the price. It had been many years since I last fired a Rifle. The instructors (Frank and Beth) were excellent and artfully taught the NRA certified class to a large group of people with mixed skills and abilities. The balance of lecture, group participation and hands on time was just right. I brought my own, never fired, Ruger 10/22 takedown model rifle and came away from the class with the confidence and knowledge needed to take it to a shooting range. There was plenty of opportunity to learn and shoot with peers and I came away with some new friends who I hope to share range time as we go forward with this sport. Safety was taken up first and through the rest of the class, then familiarity with the rifle, marksmanship and more. I without hesitation recommend Renaissance in general and this course in particular for anyone new to the sport of shooting through experienced shooter who want to bone up on their skills. I have been to at least 5 or 6 different shoots from Renaissance Firearms Instruction and they have all been awesome. Each class has a different theme such as Zombie guns, historic firearms, Shotguns, AR 15 among others. These classes are a fun way to try out different firearms in a safe setting with 2 knowledgeable instructors. Frank and Barbara are a great team and perfect for anyone who has never fired a firearm to people with a higher skill level. They provide everything you need including eye and ear protection and the firearms and ammo all at the cost of the class. Most importantly the start off every class with the basic rules of firearm safety. If you like shooting or are interested in learning about firearms definitely check these guys out. My 13 yr old son was given a groupon gift for a two hour rifle lesson. The lesson consisted of one hour in the classroom followed by one hour at the range. The classroom portion consisted of a safety lecture as well as orientation and the familiarization of five different types of rifles. I was impressed with Frank's method of teaching. He was very professional and adhered to the "KISS" principle, (Keep It Simple Stupid). He made everyone in the classroom feel at ease. No question is a stupid question especially when dealing with firearms. After the lecture all moved into the range. Everyone in the class got to fire five rounds into a paper target with each rifle under the watchful eye of Frank and his assistant. My son enjoyed it. We will be signing up for the full rifle class in the future. I would recommend Renaissance to all no matter what level of experience one has and especially to the beginning shooter. read more

Frank M is an excellent instructor as are his assistant instructors --- courses are friendly and not intimidating --- I've taken both the basic rifle and basic pistol courses and both are worth the time and effort to complete. Classroom instruction is hands-on in learning the "technique" of handling a rifle or pistol --- the 'live-fire" portion of the class is invaluable in building confidence and quickly putting into practice what you learned in the classroom. Safety is always paramount --- I have left both courses with enough knowledge to know how to handle my rifle and pistol safely while understanding the skills that have to be mastered to improve my marksmanship. I learned to shoot when I was very young from my father, but living most of my life in the 5 boroughs, I never got to practice or own my own firearms. Now that I have lived on LI for a good amount of time, I decided to get my own rifle, but realized my skills would be rusty. I found Renaissance and decided to go for safety training and NRA certification. I am so glad I did! I recently attended one of the Long Range Shooting Course that Frank Melloni put together with a fantastic team of instructors at the Mifflin county Sportsmen Association in Lewistown, PA. The whole experience was absolutely amazing. Very informative, experienced and friendly instructors that took there time to introduce everyone individually in how to engage and hit targets past 1000 yards. Never thought my budget hunting rifle was capable to achieve hits at these distances. There was a quick introduction from knowledgeable instructors and straight to hands on practice. Both recent courses I attended that Frank put together where informative and very well put together. I personally am looking forward in taking part in more of these courses. I took my first ever firearms training class last weekend, Saturday morning, 10/23, and in the two hour class I learned so much. I already feel I have a real basic knowledge of gun safety, basic understanding of gun types and general use of the bolt action rifle I used for the first time. Frank and his two instructors were excellent and I cant wait to take my next class on 11/6. This class is a full day class so I expect to learn even more as much more time is provided to teach the basics of firearms. I would definitely recommend one of the RFI classes as Frank is a great instructor who is happy to assist those, like me, with little to know prior firearms knowledge, I wasn't uncomfortable at all. I grew up around firearms and have a healthy respect for them. As an adult, when i was ready to come back to them and own my own, I felt working with an instructor would be a good thing to do. I took a number of private lessons with Frank on both pistol and rifle. It was the best thing I could have done. He is so incredibly knowledgable. He took the time to go back over all of the basics, but once that was understood, I was surprised how much he helped with my target shooting. He is quick to spot issues and figure out how to correct them. And he makes sure you understand what the problem is so you can start catching them yourself. I invested in private pistol instruction with an expert. As a woman, target shooting is not common and I expressed my interest to but a few friends. I hadn't gone target shooting for many years. I finally worked up the courage to seek out formal instruction. I found Renaissance Firearms Instruction and scheduled a lesson. Frank is a most knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging instructor. Purchased 2 Groupons for the beginner rifle course because I had just purchased my first shotgun. I did this without my wifes knowledge because she is dead set against guns in the house. She then came to Franks course with me kicking and screaming, only because I already purchased the Groupons. Long story longer..... As new gun owners, my family attended the new gun owners course provided by Renaissance Firearm Instruction and we were quite impressed with Frank Melloni, the owner, and his team. The instruction was informative and helpful for our understanding and safety in using firearms in general and our shotgun in particular. When it came time for the firing line, Frank and his team gave each of us individual instruction. In fact, Barbara, helped my daughter realize that even though she is right handed she is "left eye dominate" which then allowed her to hit the targets! Who knew! Frank is an exceptional teacher that explains everything you need to know and more in a clear concise manner . Kudos to Frank and his staff on the quality of instruction for the 7/16/16 basic firearms course. I am not a guns rights activist, survivalist or anyone with a political agenda regarding guns--just a middle aged professional with no firearms experience looking to obtain some basic exposure to firearms. The course emphasis is first and foremost on safety and obtaining knowledge about weapons and their operation. Frank's approach is non-intimidating, nurturing and non-judgemental. I took the NRA approved reloading course. This was one of the most comprehensive, well designed and effectively presented courses that I have ever taken. The material was well organized, the instructor, Frank, was an absolute expert and, he took all of the time you needed to understand the concepts and develop the necessary skills. There was as much personal one-on-one instruction as each participant needed. The instructor made himself available any time after he course was over by email, phone call, or in person for any help we needed. This was simply one of the best courses that I have ever taken. I've been taking private lessons with Frank Melloni for about two months now, and I'm very pleased. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. I have learned a lot about safety, which is paramount, and have begun to learn the basics of rifle and shotgun shooting.
