We just completed a kitchen, dining room, laundry room remodel with Remodel West, and have nothing but positive things to say. We originally selected the firm for their design aesthetic - theirs was the first showroom we'd seen where we liked all the kitchens on display, even if the style was not our own - and then were pleasantly surprised and impressed by the design-build seamlessness of their process and the quality of execution through construction. Some details: The designers (Kelly Funk and Sarah Spiroff) and the design process was excellent, moved along quickly (but over months) and helped make the challenging decisions - like where to anchor the kitchen, where/if to have a dining room - much easier. The build process and the foreman (Pat Leary) were also excellent. Job was on time, and on budget (though both struck us as high at first). The details of the design and execution passed our anal-level attention to (different sets of) detail, with the foreman and designers catching things even we didn't notice and proactively bringing them to our attention. The demolition team (led by Juan Carlos) taped off our home so neatly and were so happily respectful of the remainder of our living space and morning routines that (unlike with past contractors), we didn't feel like we were suddenly living in someone else's work zone. Things came up, as they always do with remodels. Some changes / fixes Remodel West offered to pay for, others they asked us to sign a change order. Each change order contained the cost of change plus a running total for the project. Some elements of the work that were beyond their project scope they spelled out clearly up front (for example, they didn't handle the painting, fixtures, turning our side-by-side washer/dryer into a stacked unit, low voltage work - running ethernet cables and a sound system) and for each of these we were struck by how much harder it was to manage things on our own without them. Just the washer/dryer solution took us 5 (aggravating) phone calls and a Sears technician who showed up outside the time window, demanded to be paid before starting work - though no one was there to pay him - and left less than 15 minutes later, refusing to start work and get paid on completion. Pat, the foreman, bailed us out on this by largely doing the work himself (with some help from my husband - helped clarify the potential liability issues). Similarly, Pat oversaw & fixed things the low voltage guys did, the roofer, the painter, etc. just by proactively being on site when they were due to appear and stepping in. The project was due to be complete by Halloween, and it was - with the exception of some of the pieces we were responsible for. We've lived with the kitchen for about 6 weeks now and it's turning out to be everything we wanted and more - opened up the house brilliantly, great for hosting Thanksgiving (with 5 people cooking) and holiday parties, and still feels so much like our own space that a small breakfast for just the three of us is a delight. read more

We chose Remodel West for our project based on the recommendation of our friends, who are repeat customers of Remodel West. The fact that anybody would choose to work with the same builder twice says volumes. Our project was the addition of new space to our home , and two high-end bathroom remodels into that space. The service was top notch from start to finish. Their design team was extremely helpful in selecting finishes and materials. The attention to detailing in the space was truly remarkable and was evident to me early in the construction. All issues were resolved with the quality of the finished product as the first priority. For example, we were dissatisfied with the quality/color of some slate tile, and the issue was resolved quickly to our satisfaction with no cost to us. The skills of their in house carpenters is truly remarkable. The quality of their subcontractors was also excellent. The coordination of the construction was very smooth and the project finished almost exactly as scheduled. Each day the job site was left clean and orderly. The price of their quote may appear high compared to others, but compared to other projects I have done, there was no surprise and their quote was absolutely complete and thorough with no additional costs. They even framed and plumbed a temporary shower in our garage so that the family could bathe while the two full bathrooms were being built. After the project was completed, subs were dispatched to fix minor issues - quickly - no hesitation. The quality of their work was excellent and we are extremely happy with the finished work. They took my kitchen/ family room down to the two by fours, replaced all the plumbing and electrical. There was nothing original remaining. Bill Reid was terrific to work with. Not only is he talented, creative and inspirational, but he is considerate and kind. He redesigned my kitchen and encouraged me to think out of the box. I love my kitchen space. The kitchen has a modern, crisp, distinctive and twenty-first century look. Even now, many years after the completion, I call him about other projects, and he advises me at no charge. His price was competitive and his workmanship superb. Remodel West provides value for the dollar and stands behind their work. The project manager, Dave Wampler, was at my place daily overseeing every detail. Every person working for the company was a craftsman and skilled at his profession. We just remodeled 2 full bathrooms. And the Remodel West team was great -- and that is what they-- a great team. We didn't experience what so many others do with other companies -- RW team WAS on schedule, SET our EXPECTATIONS perfectly and when we had even small items needed -- they followed up on them immediately. Even after the bathrooms were completed they still were willing to work with us on items they did not need to. The only constructive feedback was that there were some items off scope, (i.e., painting the bathrooms) that, overall, I wish we could have had them manage. But, that said, they offered to do when the time came so even that was great. And, the end result -- we like the bathrooms! We will definitely get a quote from them as we embark on our kitchen remodel. Highly recommend. read more

in 2009 after interviewing numerous contractors over a 3 year period for an extensive remodel of our 1960's kitchen we choose Remodel West. We found them very easy to work with, starting with the designer, then the tear out (down to the studs) crew, followed by the carpenters (very talented guys!), plumbers, electricians, plasterers, asbestos abatement crew, floor guys, etc. They were able to start when we wanted and completed the project within their 4 month time-frame with no gaps in the process. They gave us a printed timeline, updated every week so so we knew exactly what was going to be happening. They were super helpful, and even came back when we had a minor problem a year or 2 after the project was completed, at no charge. We would not hesitate to use them again. read more

We had a great experience with Remodel West. They approached the job with professional polish. Throughout the project, Bill presented us with regular updates of the project schedule (continually updated with Microsoft Project), and the one thing that astounded us (and our neighbors) is that they finished the project ahead of schedule! Completely remodeled our kitchen, plus a master bath, both down to the studs, and we are really happy with how it all turned out. I work from home, and despite many warnings from friends and neighbors, the remodel was not particularly disruptive. Their demo crew is super clean (thanks Jose), completely clearing up all the debris and vacuuming every evening. They even did a few things not in the contract, such as filling an excavated hole and covering it with spare concrete, and even adding a gravel pattern on top to match our existing patio - no charge. We had fun designing a very contemporary master bathroom, a new record in small bathrooms, which looks fantastic. The kitchen also looks terrific--modern, uncluttered with beautiful natural woods and granite. Pat is an excellent carpenter and Sarah has a really good eye for design. When Bill noticed anything wrong, even if I didn't, and probably wouldn't have known the difference, he made it right even when it meant ordering replacement cabinetry at no cost to us. Bottom line, you can tell that they take pride in their work, and are straightforward in telling you whatever you want to know. I would definitely use them again. read more

Considering this contractor is a must for anyone planning a remodeling project. Having just completed a major remodel of our home by Remodel West we could not be happier. While they offer separate construction project services, we elected to contract them to handle everything from A to Z. We were so impressed by the professional and thorough approach which they proposed and their job operating rules that we did not even bother to get competitive quotes. Our initial impressions were borne out and even exceeded. The scope of this project included remodeling our kitchen, family room, hall bath and master bath, as well as replacing all interior doors and jams. Interior walls were moved to enlarge the kitchen and master bath, reducing the size of the hall bath and master bedroom (we did not expand the size of the home). The designers were knowledgeable and experienced, as well as patient and good listeners. They helped us immensely with considering several design alternatives, material and feature selections, going shopping with us as needed, and saved us from the bewilderment of choosing from the multitude of options available. For decisions where we were somewhat hesitant, such as room color, tile and granite selections, we trusted their judgment and were very pleased with the end results. The construction crews were without exception a joy with whom to work; before long they were almost like members of our family. The way they interacted with us, among themselves, with the city inspectors and with their subcontractors demonstrated their common commitment to professional behavior, excellence of workmanship and customer satisfaction. We were totally comfortable that the work would be done right whether or not we were present. As the estimated length of the project was 6 months, they used a dual-phased approach which allowed for our continuing to live in our home the entire time. The phase involving our kitchen had us using half of the unheated garage for meals, so planning that during the summer was a must. The actual project length was two months longer than the estimate, mostly due to mid-project changes we requested, some glass supplier quality issues, and an unforeseen new requirement from the Cupertino Sanitary District. Scheduling was well documented with MS Project charts; communication of the few scheduling delays that occurred could have been a little timelier. read more

From the start to the finish Remodel West have exceeded our expectations, handling every aspect of our remodel with professionalism, patience and an attention to detail. It also a company staffed by incredibly dedicated and personable staff. Owner Bill Reid met us at our home to discuss the possibilities with our remodeling goals, he was open and frank about what to expect and offered a whole load of inspiring ideas we hadn't previously considered. Later, with his designer, Sarah Spiroff we reviewed ideas, plans and materials and always felt in complete control and totally supported at every step. Our initial fears of getting overwhelmed by someone else's creative vision were completely unfounded and the design process felt like a true partnership that continued past the final plans and into the smaller details once construction began. Bill presented us up front with a thorough and detailed schedule, complete with staggered (and appropriate) payment dates that only slipped on account of our own change orders. Upon the start of demolition and construction Remodel West, in the talented hands of Jim Welch, treated our house with the utmost respect, ensuring minimal intrusion to our daily lives by installing a dust wall (even in the garage) and keeping us appraised regularly of who to expect at the house and the work they would be doing. Bill followed up frequently with his check-ins, handled all permits and inspections and when a small mistake was made with the profile of the granite counter top (a pencil edge was cut when we had specced a straight edge) the team alerted us before it was installed and Sarah met me on her day off at the shop to discuss our options. I was never pressured into accepting the mistake and Remodel West quickly and effectively remedied the problem. The resulting remodel is better than we could have imagined, with only some minor grumbles about the quality of the flooring - in part a material choice and in part installation sloppiness from a sub-contractor. We are so happy with their work we added a few change orders to have our house repainted and patio remodeled. I cannot recommend Remodel West enough, the whole team were impressive and ultimately the finished product speaks for itself - the design, layout, fit and finish are exemplary. read more

Our kitchen remodel was the second large-scale project we chose Remodel West for. We were extremely happy with their work on a bathroom remodel and bathroom addition two years ago, and there was no question for us of hiring another contractor. Bill Reid and his team are extremely professional, finished the project exactly on time as per the project plan that was updated weekly, and responded to all our questions/concerns within hours. Designer Sarah Spirroff again completely understood our vision of a contemporary kitchen and was extremely helpful in making choices and providing great ideas. Jim Welch oversaw the project, was wonderful to work with and delivered great workmanship. The jobsite was kept clean at all times (which was important to us since we lived in our house during the remodel.) Jim truly went the extra mile for us so we could even have visitors stay during the end-phase of the project. Remodel West works with top-notch sub-contractors, and we were pleased to see some of the same people return from our bathroom-project. We are extremely happy with the outcome and our stunning and functional kitchen, which was finished within the timeframe promised and within budget. We hired the RemodelWest team to design and construct what was pretty close to a whole house remodel. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. From the very beginning, the ideas the design team had to offer blew our original ideas out of the water. In addition to having great ideas, the design team kept us on track with choosing and purchasing materials timely so the construction would not fall behind schedule. And the interior designer was very helpful with advice about fixtures, lighting, stone, counter tops, back splashes, etc. While the construction was in progress, my husband and I and our two dogs lived in our family room, laundry room and small bathroom, which was the only area of the house that was not impacted by the project. All of the contractors who were at our home, including all of the subcontractors, were very professional and respectful. RemodelWest managed the job impeccably and actually completed it ahead of schedule. When we presented RemodelWest with our punch list, the team had no hesitation about taking care of everything we requested and even added a couple of things to the list that he had not noticed.
