None of the big box home supplies or small hardware stores carried proper base coat, gauging, or finish plasters. They all recommended that I use Spackle or joint compound, which will not adhere to the existing lath, shrink, crack, and fail completely in the near future. Tony at Peoples knew exactly how plaster walls worked, understood that I wanted to repair them correctly, and had everything I needed in stock. I knew which scratch/base coat plaster I wanted, but wasn't sure which finish plaster I would need. Tony knew exactly what would work best and made sure I understood how to mix it. I think some of the negative reviews here are a misunderstanding about what this business is. It is a building supply yard, not a hardware store. They carry a lot of odds and ends that you might find at a hardware store, but I'm guessing a good 80% of their sales are raw building materials going to commercial builders.

I compared prices with Home Depot because I heard HD would be cheaper, and slab for slab, can say that U.S. Marble and granite offers a fair price. I picked out the granite after many stops to local sources, which Dan offered to accompany me on, but I often went on my own when I could squeeze in the time. He never lost patience with me or got annoyed by the amount of stones and sources I was requesting quotes from and encouraged me to take my time with the decision. Once I finally made up my mind, (I went with a gorgeous piece from Stone Action) they took less than a week to install the finished product, and what a fantastic job! They came out and took not only measurements, but made actual cut outs of the exact space the counter tops would occupy, including a curved section I had made a mock up of out of cardboard, which they then brought to the warehouse so I could place the pieces with them on the slab itself, ensuring the exact parts of the stones pattern would be where I wanted. Two men came on Saturday to install, and they were very professional, friendly, and did excellent work. The one necessary seam is almost imperceptible, and the complicated curve cut over my half wall base cabinets was done to perfection. It only took them a few hours, and I cannot stop smiling every time I go into my kitchen. They did excellent work and were very friendly throughout the whole process. I absolutely recommend them!

My wife and I stumbled upon United States Marble & Granite in Beltsville, MD by sheer luck. A…read moregranite wholesaler gave us an exclusive list of fabricators that were allowed to cut Vetrazzo, a recycled glass and concrete countertop. United States Marble & Granite was on this very short list. We stopped by USM&G's Beltsville, MD location and were greeted by Rich Errigo. Rich seemed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of everything counter top. If I had to guess, he's probably fabricated and installed at least thousand in his lifetime. Instead of trying to tell us why his company was the best and why we should work with him, he actually told us that we might not be fully informed about the potential shortcomings of concrete counters. (USM&G is family owned and was established in 1921 but we didn't learn about this until our second visit when we met Rich's sister, daughter, and 16 month old granddaughter). Rich recounted a previous customer's experience where her Vetrazzo counter was left stained by a sticky soda can after a party in their newly renovated kitchen. Rich went into much more detail but suggested that we go home with 2 chunks of Vetrazzo: a white hued and a darker Vetrazzo counter top my wife had gone absolutely gaga over. He suggested that we purposely try to stain the swatches to make sure we weren't making a costly mistake. My wife and I took the samples on a weekend getaway and ran several 'experiments' on both pieces of Vetrazzo. We discovered that the white hued concrete was, indeed, very porous and was stained easily by wine and coffee. However, with the darker Vetrazzo we could not visually detect any stains. So feeling as fully informed as possible, and actually using the scientific method, we decided to continue with our purchase. On our next visit at USM&G, Angela, Rich's sister, with Rich's granddaughter in tow, patiently went through every color of gray as we finally picked a Quartz composite for our main counters. Then Rich carefully listened to my wife's very demanding tastes when it came to kitchen sinks. She wanted a sink capable of holding our largest pots and pans. Rich picked out a really sharp looking rectangular sink that more than fit the bill. Instead of relying on cabinet measurements for this cavernous sink and risking a potential fiasco during installation, Rich took the time to come to our house to physically fit the sink beforehand. During this fitting he realized that because the sink was 10 inches deep that the cabinet hinges actually interfered with how he wanted to place the sink and cut the counter. Rich made adjustments for the hinges and faucets and carefully cut the template for the entire kitchen. If I do say so myself, I believe the entire countertop ensemble looks breathtaking and we are grateful for all of the Errigo family's insightful recommendations. However, this next part is probably the main reason why I'm taking the time to write this review. We chose to keep our existing stainless steel range. This Kitchen Aid gas range is 13 years old and although we think it is more than a decent looking stove, it has an unsightly rear vent cover that the owner's manual specifically states is necessary for proper ventilation. Rich asked if we were keeping said rear vent because he thought it would detract from the aesthetic of the counters and backsplash. He then said he thought he might be able to manufacture a 3 inch wide Quartz counter piece with several slats that would allow for ventilation and give the rear edge of the stove a much more polished look. Again, our counters look amazing, from the fun, colorful accent to the matching more conservative composite. My favorite part of the counters is actually that three inch piece of granite behind the stove that maybe no one else will ever notice. It's in these smallest of details that an expert sets themselves apart from the merely good. We hope that other people are as lucky as we were in finding this family owned gem of a company: United States Marble & Granite, Thank you for a terrific experience! K&D.

The countertop was chosen at a supplier and we then went to Thomas to have the work done. We worked with Carlos, Thomas's son through the whole process. Thomas, the father, was the craftsman with a sharp eye for design and seaming. We needed a long backsplash which needed to be seamed together. The pattern between the countertop and backsplash is very important for the symmetry. They did a great job, on time, on price and best of all, a terrific job. Quality #1!! We hired Macon Construction to do a whole house renovation on our 1950's split level two years ago…read more Our architect recommended them for their principled and caring approach. The company is primarily a father (Carl) and son (Nathan) business with decades of high-end experience. For our job, we also had Eddie and Edy and a honed team of sub-contractors. Each of them added to the success of the job. We knew what we wanted, but when we couldn't decide on an approach, Carl and Nathan stepped up. Twice, they recommended additional work that would have been foolish for us not to have pursued at the time. On the other hand, several times they encouraged us to reconsider costlier but superfluous construction options. This is all to say we had a good experience working with Macon during our renovation and leaned on Carl and Nathan throughout the process. There are a lot of moving parts for a job like this and there were instances of unavoidable stress, but we didn't worry they were angling to cut corners and we trusted their ethics implicitly. We have lived in the completed house for over a year now and appreciate the solid workmanship and the sensible decisions they championed along the way. Macon's website said that many of their clients miss them when they leave. This is true. We are looking forward to reassembling the team for a next phase of construction. The quality of work and craftsmanship was really solid- the foreman was very experienced and had an eye for quality work and cared that things were done right. We hired an architect (MPR Architecture) to do the design and Carl worked seamlessly with them in carrying out the project. All of Carl's team were a pleasure to work with and took such good care of our home, and the result is just what we were hoping for. Everything finished on the time schedule and budget proposed which was amazing. We highly recommend Macon for anyone looking to do work on their home!

It took a while to get it done, so don't expect same day service for most items. They have to plan to cut things or move giant slabs of granite around, and it's no joke that stuff is heavy and dangerous. But they got it done and it was easy to pick up. The excessive marble entryway is hilarious, both a nod to the business, opulence, and some fun excessiveness with marble.

Chris is very knowledgeable and pointed us in the right direction, explained all the options. They offer a discount if you use a check, which we did. The measurements they took in advance of cutting the stone were spot on. We did have a problem at install, when we discovered a crack near the sink. Someone repaired it, perhaps the installer. So I was upset. I called Chris and he was very reassuring, saying, "We will make this right." He did. They cut a whole new slab and replaced it. I was planning to do my own plumbing, but Chris said that they caused me an inconvenience, so he would send out a plumber to do the hookups. The plumber came as promised. That is old-fashioned service! In the end, we have beautiful new granite countertops. We are very happy with result. The price was within the range of other outlets, a touch more than some cheap places, but I liked that all of the countertops were slabs, not samples like some places do for lower-grade granite. We went with a darker grade B. Chris said that dark tends to hide stains, but grade D and above have a better seal. Cost was an issue, so we went with sapphire blue (Grade B), which is very dark with some light marbling, and has really nice blue pieces here and there. I would definitely recommend United Granite, suggest Chris as your contact, and let him know if there are any issues with the install. He answers the phone, he calls you back if you leave a message, and he makes sure you are happy with the outcome.

First off United Granite is pricey. But the huge selection of stone they offer really gives you a…read morehuge array of choices. I just remodeled my powder room and looked at hundreds of stone slabs at United Granite in Bowie for a vanity top. I picked several options but there was one piece poking out behind two other slabs that really spoke to me. They have a pulley system that allows them to lift and moved huge stone slabs. Then I could see the whole slab and I knew I had to have it for my powder room. The people who fabricated the stone cut the backsplash portion so that the natural veigning of the stone was perfectly matched. I am one happy customer. Thank you so much Chris!
