Because she has been away, I have been trying to find a stand-in salon until she gets back. 3 weeks ago I went to a salon and did not have a good experience. My manicure was horrendous. It was bad! They didnt focus on cuticle health and used a drill bit for everything. 0/10 do not recommend. I have a friend who is looking for a salon who had a great experience here, and she suggested it to me. I suspect she grew tired of hearing me complain about the state of my cuticles, but whatever.... Anyway, I googled and found that I was able to make an appt through their website. The system was easy to use, and I just picked what I wanted. Positive website navigation...check! I immediately received a text verifying my booking. I received a reminder text a few days before, and yet another one the day of. Communication....check. The salon is on Harford Rd right off 695 and there is plenty of parking in back which is great! Location...check When I walked in my immediate reaction was "oh this is CUTE!" Its a boutique salon, extremely clean, and homey but in the best way. I was immediately greeted by the salon manager (Im so sorry I can't remember your name) with a hello and a warm welcome. She immediately put me at ease, and I just felt so comfortable like it wasnt my first visit. The manager confirmed what I was getting and led me over my tech, Shradha. She gave my toes and fingers the business. THE BUSINESS!! She got me right! I got the special pedicure. You get your choice of scented scrub and I chose lavender. The callus remover is also included. They dont use the cheese grater. Instead, they use a motorized foot sander thing. They also use disposable utensils. My feet are smooooth, my cuticles have been loved on, and my polish is amazing. I love Shradha so much!! Shradha is very quiet and thats okay. I'm new, she doesnt know me, and she was all about getting me right, so I was fine. I just started talking to everyone else. The manager was personable and we talked about her journey to the salon, and the goals of the owner (which are fabulous and exciting! I love to see black women making big moves especially in spaces where we arent represented). I love talking to people because im 1. Nosey and 2. I'm a yapper. I also talked to the techs and its very clear that they operate as a team. Often nail salons are individualistic and I don't get that vibe from them. Everyone is a talented artist in their own right and they come together because they share a common goal for the salon. Let me not forget to mention the diversity on the team. I do believe that everyone was a POC and the clients that were being serviced were also equally diverse. I was extremely impressed all the way around. My service was gel soak off (hands and feet), special gel pedicure, and gel manicure. Total cost was $120+ tip. If I had to give a criticism, it was a super small one, the size of a grain sand. It would be the fumes of the chemicals. Towards the end of my service, it became more pronouced due to the lack of ventilation as the space is small. Ive never smelled it that pungent before so Im not sure if it was a one off. Nonetheless, I can fix that with a mask. It's clear that I had a fabulous time. I like to try something 3 times before I decide that I like it. But the thought has entered my mind that I might have to break up with my nail tech. It was just that good!
