I have used RC exclusively for multiple projects and they consistently go above and beyond the scope of what I requested. They are knowledgeable, experienced, and extremely reasonable when it comes to cost. They have saved me untold time and money. Avoid! Avoid! This is the most sloppy contractor I dealt with - I posted some pictures showing that after charging $1,000.00 to remove the asbestos and coming 2 times due to asbestos still being there after the 1st go; there was still asbestos all over - Some fallouts on the floor and in the ducts/pipes for us to breath. The 2nd asbestos removal contractor we hired, when looking at the poor workmanship advised to turn off A/C immediately and until the work was completed properly. Looking to resolve the problem with the rep and the owner - the email response was: "This is not about workmanship. If you ever actually read your Proposal, you'll see that we have done our work, as proposed. You have no grounds to complain to us, pester us, or demand free work. We actually think that you should pay us more, for doing the job twice, without any sort of direction or coordination." The owner's solution was to charge another $2,600.00 to complete the job. I asked whether he looked at the pictures, and the response was: "read your contract". Well, I'd argue that even so it's not specifically stated in the contract, picking up the asbestos that fell into the ducts and on the floor is part of what I hired the company for. Our ceiling got scraped by a bumbling house painter with a long ladder coming through the house, and I sent in a sample of the ceiling material- come to find out it's asbestos. I'm losing my mind and randomly call Reliance. Best thing I ever did. Tiffany was incredibly helpful on the phone, explaining everything to me, and scheduled an inspector, Michael, to come out asap. He arrived and gave me a thorough explanation and assessment of my situation. He explained what would be involved in removal, whether I needed it, and had SO MUCH background info on asbestos. Didn't have a good experience with Reliance Construction (RC). During an estimate visit they didn't double check on what we were asking to remove. We were still closing on the house and scheduled an estimate before we took full ownership of the house. RC came a few hours before scheduled appointment and ended up interacting with just the previous owners, not waiting for the time when we were going to meet them at the house ourselves. RC assumed ducts were in the attic, though I specifically told Reliance we need to check the attic and confirm that. When abatement day came, asbestos team showed up, checked the attic and found no old ducts there. We spent 2h waiting for their boss who was the one who did an estimate. Still no ducts to be found. This would all be okay, except RC sent us a $950 bill after this for "mobilization", "cancellation" and "asbestos removal complete". They claimed it was not their job to know whether there is anything to remove or not. Then what is the estimate process for?! I ended up having to argue with them about this bill and were able to bring it down to $400, but that is still ridiculous. If they don't even check the area they are going to work on during the estimate, then their estimates are a pure guess and you can expect all kinds of change orders later and a steep new bill at the end. I wouldn't recommend this company. Their actual workers are nice and competent, but the estimate team doesn't seem very good read more

Once I knew scope of work, they were able to come out next day for a quote, which was in line with expectations, and the work was scheduled the next day. They are expensive with a minimum bid of 1800 and frankly, I don't believe anything they say. Shop around. Background: I was under pressure and I had to get a job done fast. I went with them, because they said they will do the job the next day at 8 am. and they did. Right after I committed to them, another contractor came and gave me a much lower bid. But they could not do the job soon. Reliance did send 3 people over -- two Hispanic gentleman and someone that stayed in a van. They removed a small pipe that had asbestos around it -- they were not wearing hazmat suits and just regular paper masks. They were using a regular vacuum cleaner to clean up the dust. They did lay out plastic sheets but then used the vacuum cleaner to clean after themselves, and asked me if I wanted the plastic sheets. And I told them no. When I emailed Jeremaya that I got a bid much lower than theirs, he said they are unionized and bunch of other non-sense. Under their emails they also list a lot of certifications and licenses. Ya may be; I don't believe them. The people they sent had no hazmat suits and were using a regular vacuum cleaner!!! They were not even wearing industrial masks. They put the pipe in a plastic sheet and handed it to a third guy that was staying in a Van. They are expensive and again, I do not believe anything they do and say. SHOP AROUND. read more

I've used Reliance several times for asbestos removal in residential buildings - both rental units and my own home. Their estimates were always clear and accurate. Their work was clean and thorough, and their folks easy to coordinate with. Perhaps the trickiest thing that they did well was in working with my tenants. People are understandably concerned about asbestos, and the Reliance teams have a good demeanor that helped make sure that no one became unduly concerned. I'll gladly use them again. read more

Dishonest company. I sent this company a detailed explanation of what I wanted to do and received a response from them, "Reliance can do this job for $800. Let me know if you want that on a Reliance Proposal." I asked them to send me their proposal and received a phone call later to confirm my mailing address. One week later, I did not receive a proposal either by mail (they are only a few miles from my home) or email, so I emailed them to resend me the proposal. The response I got back was, "The cost I originally quoted you was for removal only. Hauling and disposal adds an extra $ 300 and if you would like a quote at $1,100 we can get you a Proposal." REALLY? So "do this job" meant "removal only"? Other companies stopped by to view the job and gave me an estimate. Not these guys. They just gave me a quote. Now that I think about it, who knows what other hidden fees and expenses they would've added on the job since they'll have an excuse that they never visually inspected the job. These guys are either very dishonest or very new to the industry (that they don't know part of the "job" is hauling and disposal). Either way, I am not doing business with them. read more

Sam Julian is super honest and very knowledgeable. I needed to remove and put back baseboard for some flooring work. We have at most 2% asbestos in the walls. He suggested that I could do it myself. He could have removed baseboards and put back and charged me. We had some more in depth discussions. I like his honesty and his knowledge. I was having a furnace and A/C installed by another HVAC company until they stopped and told me that I had to get rid of asbestos tape lining the furnace. I called several abatement companies and settled on Reliance after they price matched another company. I was quoted $850 for about two hours work on removing the asbestos tape, I thought that it was pretty pricey for the work, but they had to basically seal off the area to OSHA guidelines and what-not. I went with them and they were able to fit me in the same day, last appointment. The gentleman that came worked for about two hours until 8pm. They also finished the job in about an hour and we were expecting it to take much longer. We contracted with them to remove asbestos insulation from our furnace and they took care of everything. Mike and crew at Reliance Construction really came through for me, removing kitchen drywall and insulation down to the studs, when I learned asbestos (2% Chrysotile) was present. After getting a 3-day permit from BAAQMD, Reliance Construction quickly removed all asbestos drywall and left a clean, neat work area in my kitchen. They just removed the asbestos tiles from my living room. They did it in one day (started promptly in the morning and finished the job in the afternoon). We have used Reliance Construction twice. First time their work was ok and they did the work according to contract . However the second time they quoted me over the phone and told me it will take them 4-6 hours and we agreed on the price. However on work day they finished in just 1/1/2 hour and still wanted me to pay the same amount. I got into huge argument with the company. But basically they took off only $100. When I told them I won't use them again, they did not seem to care. Well I won't use them again and if you do, make sure you get an in-house appraisal no matter how small or big the job is. read more

My situation was that I was having hardwood flooring installed, and when the installers ripped out my old carpeting they found a layer of asbestos tiles, which brought their work to a halt. I called several asbestos abatement companies in SF and they were not interested. Even Recology would not get involved unless i brought the hazardous material in myself - no way. I finally called Reliance Construction and they were willing to come up to SF and do the job. I emailed them a photo of the work that needed to be done and that the same day i send the photo I got an estimate. By the end of the following day, i had approved the contract and a day and time for the removal of the asbestos was set. Communication with Reliance Construction was excellent, Tiffany, kept me informed every step of the way which was greatly appreciated. Even better, I got a call from the two workers who asked if they could come a hour earlier since they had a scheduling change which was fantastic for me, it opened up my entire day for other projects. The employees promptly showed up as stated, introduced themselves and immediately got to work. They were extremely professional and diligent in the removal of this hazardous material.
