Last Sunday morning while patiently waiting for runners in the 4th Annual ANA Cable Car Chase to go by so I could cross over California Street, an 18 year old driving his Mom's Acura backed into the side of my car. My first instinct was to scream, which I did rather loudly. Then, summoning calm, I got out and began surveying the damage to my 'vo. Sure enough the impact had left a big dent in the side of my car. My insurance recommended Reliable Auto Body for the repair. From the first phone call my experience with Reliable was impeccable. These folks run what is perhaps the friendliest, most reliable and courteous auto body shop in all of San Francisco. Juan Jr. was a complete joy to deal with. First, he had someone come out and whisk away the green paint off my car (there from a slight brush with my garage.) I was so impressed with this, I could've hugged him. He called me later to tell me they'd start working on the damage caused by Sunday's accident immediately and that I could have my car back today. I walked over to the shop this morning to pick it up. These guys were recommended to me from Progressive, which guarantees the repairs for life if they are done at a preferred shop such as this. The good thing is that the work is such high quality, they guarantee it themselves, for the life of the car, Progessives guarantee is not transferrable, but Reliable's is! I had a lovely key scratch from one end of the car to the other, as well as a huge dent and scratches all over my bumper (i'm selling it and moving to zipcar, so I wanted everything made perfect). Not only did they do excellent work. They had the car ready on time, let me keep it there over the weekend at no charge, washed and waxed it, and gave me a deal on another dent/scratch that was not included in the insurance estimate. My driveway is the width of my car - almost exactly. Sometimes, when I am feeling confident, I try to navigate this absurdly narrow space quickly...and that is when I rip the side mirror off. As a new car owner (kind of), I was nervous about bringing the car to a random repair shop because I thought that they would rip me off and I wouldn't notice. Took my car to reliable to get a quote on replacing the driver-side door mirror and housing. It had been ripped off by someone who passed too closely on a tight street in the city. Reliable was one of three quotes I got -- all from auto body shops in the area. They gave me a better price than anyone else, used original manufacturer parts (at my request), but more importantly came up with a way to save part of the original mirror housing to save me money (aprox. $50.00 in parts and $100 in labor.) The total job came to about $450.00. The work was done well, on-time, and they were very professional and easy to deal with. I got a quote by email so I didn't have to wait. It came within an hour of my initial unscheduled visit. I actually called Juan later for an alternative estimate and got re-quoted over phone and in writing, via email again, in under 10 minutes. Reliable is run by a long time resident and business owner in San Francisco. This was a credit card repair, not insurance. UPDATE: Since I had a good experience with Juan the first time, I took my car back to him there months later to see if he could help me with some small scrapes. I was in and out in 20 minutes and he fixed me right up. Talk about great customer service. He remembered the car, asked how things were going, and made me feel like a valued customer. My poor little VW Golf has been parking on the street while hubby's car is busted down in the garage. Now know why everyone on Fulton pulls onto the sidewalk. My driver-side mirror was taken clean off and no one left a note. Expensive lesson. The dealer gave me $700 estimate over the phone. I was a victim of hit and run and the tailgate of my GTI was smashed in pretty nicely! Although this new cosmetic feature gave my car a very distinguished one-of-a-kind Pug look I decided repairs were needed. I am a car freak and very meticulous. The last work I had done on my car at a different shop was very disappointing. Lots of "orange peel" in the paint and poor seam alignment in body panels. Now on to Reliable. AMAZING. The paint job they did is glossier, smoother and cleaner than the paint on the rest of the vehicle. I'm talking ubelievable. The seams align perfectly on the tailgate, the rain seals are mint, the bumper is perfect. AND they did a really nice job cleaning the car too before I came to pick it up. Before my new BMW 1 Series even hit 4000 miles, someone did a hit and run on it. I had damage to the driver side door as well as the rear bumper. My insurance company gave me a list of companies which included Reliable Auto Body. Wanting to make sure my new paint was EXACT, I first checked out German Motors Collision Center. Not only was the customer service at German Motors horrible, it took them 3 days to return my phone calls. But by then, I had already decided to go with Reliable Auto Body. I spoke with Juan on the phone and told him I didn't have rental car coverage on my insurance and was looking to get my car back as soon as possible. (German Motors quoted me 5 days). Juan told me he would do his best to get it done in 3 days for me. Not only did he deliver on that promise, but my car was done in two days! I received an email that my car was ready to go first thing in the morning. When I arrived about an hour later, my car was sitting in front waiting for me freshly washed. The paint match is EXACT! I looked and looked for for at least some discoloration between new and old paint, but even in bright sunlight I couldn't see it. My car looks brand new without a mark on her. Since Juan works so closely with the insurance companies, he even went over my insurance policy with me and gave some suggestions on how to save money in the future should this type of thing happen again. The work is also guaranteed 100% to satisfaction. Not trying to sound like a commercial for this place, but my cars appearance is VERY important to me and Juan delivered! Well, all that will change if you take your car to the Juans of Reliable Auto Body. I had to get a license plate fixed - a task many places were too busy to help with, even though I explained I was getting $100 tickets daily and would do anything. Someone ran into the rear bumper of my parked 2006 Infiniti G35 and drove off. No note, no nothing. They dented in the bumper quite well and hurt the trunk lid just a bit. I'm happy to report that the hype is real - this place delivers some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Now I will admit I didn't need major car repairs - I went in three times recently for a few minor issues with lights, doors, etc. However, these guys solved ALL of my problems and barely charged me anything. They wouldn't even accept payment the last time. They didn't talk down to me as a young woman. They were just super friendly and got the job down. I scraped the side of my door and rear panel on a fire extinguisher box in my parking garage. The pain of having to pay for the repair was unavoidable, but the pain of dealing with an untrustworthy auto shop is completely avoidable if you go to Reliable! There is no hyperbole in the name, "Reliable Auto Body." If anything, they sell themselves short. They're reliable, honest, do fantastic work, and even go above and beyond. After fixing my door/panel to perfection, they also found an issue with the locking mechanism which was not a part of the original estimate. They gave me a discounted rate on the part and charged $0 for additional labor required to install the new part!!! On top of that, their repair made my door look SO good, that the rest of my car looked old and weathered in comparison, so they gave me a full body (inside and out) detailing for free. My car honestly looks BRAND NEW. I couldn't be more pleased. Last but not least, Juan is great to work with. He's flexible and friendly. My BMW got egged all over the driver side, roof and hood. The egg had cooked on over the weekend and completely ruined the paint. Didn't know what to do so I dropped by Reliable to have them take a look. First thing they do is polish it off with a high grade sander without asking for a fee. Unfortunately the damage had been done and it would need it to be repainted. They gave me insurance advice and told me exactly what needed to be done. Reliable went above and beyond by keeping my car safe in their garage, taking it to the insurance inspection and completing the work quickly. They even polished parts of the car that were not included in the claim. The guys in the shop are very friendly, honest, experienced and professional. Couldn't have asked for better service. I took my car into the shop and I didn't even need to tell them who I was. My insurance set up the appointment on my behalf and the guys at Reliable told me that they were expecting me. Hello, does this ever happen at an auto shop, let alone anywhere? The owner, Juan Sr., called me about every other day to update me on the status and when the repairs would be finished. They even took the time over the phone to explain in detail what the repairs entailed. Mind you, I do not understand the first thing about car mechanics but they broke it down simply enough (while not making me feel like an idiot) that I was able to tell my husband what the heck they were doing. Reliable said that they hoped to have the repairs done in about 7 business days. Guess what, my car was done a day early! EARLY, as in, I got it back before the weekend. Holla. Wait, I'm almost done! After reading the 5-star reviews on Yelp, I decided to take my Audi A4 to Reliable after getting hit with a flying tire on the highway. Yep, a flying tire. Thankfully it was just my door that was damaged. In any case, the father and son owners were very helpful right off the bat, and made the entire process as painless as possible. Although it took a few extra days to get my car back due to the wrong door being delivered initially, I didn't hold it against Reliable. When I went in to pick up my car, it looked as good as new.
