It's a big store, bigger than the Tacoma, WA store. They were also very friendly and knowledgeable, no complaints here!

The store is fine, the bike shop is not. I would not recommend getting any service done there. My experience: Easy repair and general tune up. Expected it to take a week tops because I knew they were busy. It took 2 1/2 months. During that time they told me that it will be ready within a few days, and of course when I didn't hear from them for several days, I called again and they said it would be ready in a couple days. This happened THREE times! When I finally went to ride my bike, the front tube had deflated from the time I had picked it up. Had to change it immediately. They compensated me a little for screwing up so bad, but I'd much rather have had my bike. read more

Argggh! So I needed a C02 tank filled and I called and asked if they did it, the girl who responds goes "ummm...yeah". Okay - so going with her information I drive out there, and I had this bad feeling that she didn't know what she was talking about. I really knew I was in trouble when I asked the cashier and got back a blank look. I finally found someone knowledgeable, who confirmed my fears that they don't do it. Honestly the strangest reaction to COVID-19 I've experienced in a retail setting so far. I've had COVID. I encourage social distancing. My mom is immunocompromised, so I personally have been very careful during the pandemic. But this location of REI seems incredibly disorganized and stressed, while maintaining rigid standards which stresses out customers. No signs or written instructions, they have staff guiding customers like camp counselors which puts a lot of strain and pressure on everyone. It's safer and clearer to put out signs. And they are not clear in their communication of where one should walk, no tape arrows...or what should and should not be touched, green rope isn't typically used for representing "do not touch" so I accidentally grabbed something I wasn't meant to, and got a lecture to boot. I don't want to be made to feel badly because their instructions aren't explicit. The whole store is a free for all, and the shoe section has different rules than the main area. Very stressful and confusing. read more

REI is a great outdoor store with just about everything you could want or use outside. This particular location has bike and ski shops. Everyone working there is friendly, and seems to be fairly knowledgeable. It's a little more expensive than some outdoor stores, but you can usually get a good deal on out-of-season clothing on the clearance rack. They also have events and classes to explore. read more

I'm here on a regular basis and, well, it's REI. You can't go wrong. Perks: they have everything (or just about), the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable (but they aren't in your face or snobby), it is possible to get a great deal, and as a co-op, by getting a membership, you get back a % of your total spending each year. Oh yeah, and it's REI's policy that they guarantee EVERYTHING they sell. So if you buy something and it breaks, even if the manufacturer doesn't back it up, REI will! Things I would change: they need to open earlier (esp. on the weekends). The crowd that shops here wants to be outside at 10am on Sunday, not waiting around for REI to open up so they can buy gear. read more

I bought some Merrill shoes here and the sales woman was very accommodating. I have an extra wide foot often a "eee" size and this young lady went out of here way to find the size and width I needed. I also purchased a gps watch and the salesman that helped me with it was pretty knowledgable considering he was very frank in what he knew on the subject. Overall a great experience. read more

I love REI.....I've been a member for years, and have shopped at them everywhere from CA to New Mexico, Michigan to Portland Oregon and have had nothing but stellar experiences. The other day, I went into this branch to buy a pair of trail runners. I am a new runner (although a longtime competitive athlete), and have a particular brand that I love and works great for my feet and gait. The shoe sales guy, an incredibly arrogant little s**t, literally refused to listen to me. Literally. Wouldn't let me finish a sentence, cut me off, was annoyed when I tried to explain what I was looking for. Instead, he demanded that he measure my feet because he "had to know my feet to fit me properly." (Okay.....I'm 54....) He came back with shoes that were the wrong brand (a brand that I hate because they don't fit me, ever) in the wrong size (I couldn't even get my foot into them), and then spent twenty minutes correcting me (!) about my own foot size, and told me that he was right and I was wrong, and I was just overcompensating because my feet were so wide (they're not). He brushed off the brand I was looking for and then strong-armed me into a pair of Altras (lovely shoes but not for me), telling me nothing about zero-drop shoes and how runners need to take time to transition into them --- you can get seriously injured if you don't --- and off I went, with shoes I didn't ask for or want, sold to me by a know-it-all who actually refused to hear a word I said. A week later, I have tried to run in these shoes, and my feet are killing me so badly that I lost three days of running time because of them and went back to my old shoes. I love REI, but this guy was a nightmare --- perhaps only for middle-aged women? --- and I probably won't go back to this branch because of him. Although I do have to take two hours out of my work day tomorrow to return the shoes......... read more

Just had a disappointing experience at this store. I'm not an avid hiker but I wanted to get some proper hiking boots. I watched the staff have in depth discussions with other customers and each person was given lots of options. However when it was my turn the saleswoman kept remarking on how wide my feet were and made it seem like I was a freak of nature. She basically put me in a pair of men's boots ( I'm a woman ) and made it seem like this was the only thing that would fit me . They did fit ok but I was too embarrassed to ask for other options after this interaction. I felt like I was pressured into getting ugly boots because my freak feet wouldn't fit into anything else ever. read more

As a lifetime REI member, I was very impressed with the management team at the REI in Norwalk, CT. What a wonderful group of people. Tim Beach, the Sales Manager, helped me resolve my issues regarding the appropriate ski equipment. Val, the ski shop guy, is also very knowledgeable. Consistent friendly staff always willing to offer advice and options for all things REI.
