It was founded 85 years ago in Seattle, Washington and currently has 165 locations and 15,000 employees. They carry a wide variety of top brand products and gear for every member of your family. The store is expansive and expensive. They specialize in clothing and footwear for all seasons. In the summer they have an amazing selection of sun proof clothing, and in the winter they provide every type of outerwear to keep you warm. It is cool to check out the complete collection of their high quality mountain bikes, tents, duffel bags, rain jackets, road bikes, women's winter coats, and camp chairs too. They carry name brands like Patagonia jackets and the high priced Hoka. The staff is helpful and extremely knowledgeable. You can purchase items as a customer or join the co-op and get special privileges if you need a lot of the merchandise they offer. read more

Ok in recent months/ year's REI's issues have been well noted online and there no doubt there in trouble.... so full disclosure I'm not a retail shopper at heart, dig the ease of a few day delivery.. but I like REI retail. Industrial outdoor vibes.. good people around .. both staff and customers, yeah I like it.. but I have to say this, when I go spend 5, 6, 700.00 dollars and have to leave the store like I'm leaving a laundry mat, pile of purchases in hand, bags no longer available, yeah that's an issue, I hate that crap at the grocery store let alone mid line retail, grind you vendors for better pricing, swap to LED light bulbs to lower energy costs , up the price 1/2 a point.. but give people a bag.. read more

They never give out rewards or anything so what's the point shopping there to get nothing back from the rewards program They always say they're gonna send you something in the mail in a few weeks and never ends up coming in. Everything seems to be bigger and better in Milford! I stopped in this REI after spotting it from Costco, just to check it out. There's an REI closer to where I live, but it's smaller than this one. This one is really nice, well laid out, with more cycling space and selection than the one near me. It's really well organized, and very clean. The employees here are friendly, but pretty much all REI people are nice and seem to actually enjoy working there. I had at least 2 people ask me if I needed any help, and were all friendly. I'd definitely visit this one regularly if I lived closer! read more

I have been a member of REI for years and a HUGE fan of the gear and expertise they provide to outdoor enthusiasts. I was incredibly disappointed to wake up early on a Saturday and drive 30 mins to be met with a sign saying the garage sale was cancelled. Unfortunately, Milford did not have the courtesy or foresight to cancel a day or so in advance rather than tell their members in the dead of night. If I'm incorrect about the cancellation process, please help educate your loyal members on what happened. read more

I have always enjoyed this store. I came today to buy a few things and was really impressed by the customer service, especially during Covid-19. The curbside pick up looked very organized. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everything looked super clean, as it always did, but even more so. The store had plenty of staff ready to help and circulating. I definitely recommend coming in or doing curbside pick up for any of your summer recreation needs. Also, the return policy on their products is awesome. read more

I am always impressed with the workers at REI. The workers are extremely nice and always willing to help. They helped me find exactly what I needed and gave me comments about the pros and cons of certain items. One worker in particular named Hieu helped me navigate the store, and returning and exchanging items to my needs. I felt informed along the way, and I cannot thank him enough for helping me. I used to like REI when I lived in Colorado, but now that their presence has spread to New England I find that they're nothing special and I find better deals online on websites such as Backcountry and Moosejaw. I feel perhaps they spend too much money on the decor of the place. Maybe that's why their prices aren't anything great. Expensive decor equates to large overhead. How much did the cast iron door handle in the shape of an axe cost? Maybe $300? Plus, every REI store I've visited has always been housed inside a brand spanking new building. What about recycling old storefronts instead of building new from the ground up? IMO that would make a better statement for a company that considers itself environmentally sensitive to the outdoors. Eh, but those are a just few of my minor gripes. My biggest gripe with REI, and with THIS store in particular, is the number of "May I help you? inquiries I'll receive throughout my visit. I can't make it from the front of the store to the rear of the store without receiving at least 10 "May I help you?" questions. One or two isn't bad, but one every minute is quite annoying. Apparently nobody is keeping track or cares that others have previously asked me the question. It's a massive free-for-all. It's a pile-on of "May I help you?"s. Yea, somebody can help me, I'm suffocating in all your interruptions, sheesh. Anyway, they have the usual REI stuff: climbing gear, skis, bicycles, kayaks, backpacks, etc.. Clothing brands include Patagonia, Kuhl, Prana, Mammut, TNF, Arcteryx, and Salomon. They have a REI clothing brand which is actually fairly good quality. However they charge similar prices for their store brand verses the name brand stuff, so there's little to no savings in that. Being the outdoorsy person that I am, I generally like these types of stores, but lately I've walked out a little disappointed and slightly annoyed. read more

I took up a new hobby this Summer and decided to hit REI as a one-stop shop for gear. I love how the inventory is smaller than other stores, but with higher-quality items to choose from. The staff here is so friendly and helpful. On a few items that I wanted more information on, they were incredibly knowledgeable and made great suggestions according to my needs. They're also really familiar with the local area and pointed me towards a few new places to visit for my new hobby. I recently went back for their Labor Day sale and my second experience was just as great as the first- even though the store was notably more busy. Finally- I'd suggest joining the co-op as a member. Have spent thousands of dollars at REI in the past year. I brought a bicycle wheel which needed some spokes replaced. I was told the wheel was not fixable and I should consider having custom wheels built. ($900). I brought the wheel to a LOCAL bike shop and they were easily able to fix it. They try to act local but they are a big corporation just pretending to be. read more

I haves loved REI for over twenty years. It's a bit expensive, but the staff are great for giving advice, being helpful, and enthusiastic about outdoor recreation. Through no fault of the staff, REI's have subtlety changed their business model. The showrooms are paired down, no more various exciting displays of the gear one craves, but can't get "just yet." Much more emphasis is on their clothing, but, at the same time, something there too is not quite right. It's hard to put into words, but the new stores just are not as fun as a trip to REI used to be. Still, the staff expertise, and products available are great. Take my advice (the same I gave to Guitar Center), "I know I can order it 'online,' I want to put my hands on it, and buy it here!" read more

I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I come here, it's so much fun shopping at REI. They have everything you ever want for outdoor activities. I really appreciate being able to put my hands on a lot of this stuff before I buy it because usually it's not that cheap. Everybody here is helpful and I always enjoy visiting. read more

What a great store!! Prices seem high, but all the knowledge you can gain from the employees more than makes up for it in my opinion. Also, their membership program is awesome....you join and get dividends back each year on the purchases you made, check it out. We'll be back for sure!! Bob and Joe are extremely knowledgable. Great store. I mean top notch. I bought a pair of MSR snowshoes today and they were the same price as Amazon, Backcountry and Moosejaw. Plus, I was able to quickly and closely examine alternative MSR snowshoe models. The store person was pleasant and helpful without being pushy. This is a candy store for outdoors people - so many items you can find nearly anything you need in just one visit instead of hunting around the internet and then having to wait for it to arrive. After being disappointed and discouraged at a local specialty bike shop, I stopped into REI. First off the store is beautiful! Emma greeted us right away and helped me select the perfect bike. She listened to my needs and concerns. She helped me try bikes and even said u could go outside and borrow a helmet to really test it and make sure I was comfortable. Great looking store, seems like lots of stuff for the casual outdoors person to the serious one. Impressive. Would have gone there if I was next visiting Everest. This review is only based on one visit while looking for one product. Looking for special booties or shoes used to walk in the sand, water, etc. Thinner than a sneaker. On their website they had about 8 varieties, ranging from $16-$32 and others in the higher range. Online I first also put in what store I was looking at. You would think that after putting in a location, the website would indicate if the products were available. So I went there, and found the footwear at the far end. I was looking for a bit, and nearby an employee was talking with what seemed to be her supervisor. Ironically they were talking about "communication." They never broke their chat to ask a customer (me) if he needed any help. Seems like customer service is not something of value. Too bad. New store. Sad client focus. So then I walked to the other far end and a salesman did ask, and I told him what I was looking for. He said they have nothing that low here, after checklng one that was $114. He said they might be others online, and never even asked if he could order anything. Bad customer service and weak a product line are the ingredients for a failed business. read more

I love the idea of this store. There are so many cool items that I want to buy, but the prices!!!!!! Everything is super expensive. I went to look at some Merrel boots and they were way more expensive than online. I paid half price and they were shipped from the UK. Like another Yelper, the number of "may I help you"'s is true. I think this is because customers are almost non-existent in the store, so all the employees are walking around with nothing to do.
