Absolutely amazing customer service from this REI! Max is an associate that has helped me on numerous occasions and he always goes above and beyond to help where he can. The store is organized, tidy, and well stocked. I love shopping at REI because with you become a member the return policy is extended from 30 days all the way to one year. Additionally, as a member we get dividends and get the opportunity to shop in the resupply section.

Very friendly staff, it is much smaller than the other REI in Minneapolis. I'm used to easy access from the highway and ample parking. There are other stores next by which makes shopping in this area fun. They have basic selection of bicycles and their shoe collection is not as huge as the ones in Minneapolis. It has you covered for your basic camping.

5 stars. One of the biggest REI I've been to. A lot more options than I'm used to. Plus most items are actually in stock during COVID restrictions. Plenty of friendly staff around. Clean store with plenty of selection. We've shopped at this store a lot, but had to do a review because this REI is better than most.

But, to be bluntly transparent about this, even though my activities fit The Columbia Lifestyle, my girth prevents me from fitting most of The Columbia Clothing. Still, some of the garments are more amply proportioned than the marked sizing would suggest, so I have the two sweaters to show for my repeated efforts to find more gear. I nearly bought gloves yesterday, just because they fit. I did buy another pair of Columbia shoes yesterday, though. But from a oligarchy-compliant online retailer, not from the local store in Monterey. Why? Because I was able to try on the right size, though not (for my preferences) in the right color. The right color was available, but not in my size. And special orders are not possible, reportedly, from the local store. So, we funded a little more fuel for the rich man's rocket. But for whatever disappointment there could have been, yesterday's twenty minutes in the Monterey Columbia store was one of the better shopping experiences I've had in quite a while. Even though the eventual sale was clearly going to be made outside the local brick-and-mortar, Store Manager Sam made sure we were able to confirm the right size for the right color so that we could order online (from someone other than Columbia, since the rocket-owner ships to us for free) with relative confidence. We'll be back to see what fits in the future. Make that "the near future." Those gloves were pretty nice.

I went in looking for a vest but bought a jacket. I got the Heavenly Hooded Jacket in black. It's like a puffer jacket but sleek not bulky, light weight but very warm, special thermal lining, with sleeve inserts that you insert your thumb on like fingerless gloves but can be worn like normal sleeves. Yes it was costly but I will get plenty of use out of it. I wore it horseback riding today. I haven't bought a parka coat since 2000. I'm hopeful this jacket lasts as long as my Lands End parks has.

Light and Motion make, IMHO, the absolute best video camera underwater housings on the market…read more I've owned several, and I NEVER have to worry about leaks (certainly the typical #1 worry...."let's take a $1000+ camera and put it in salt water"). L&M housings have several features that I love: - electronic controls. This minimizes the # of o-rings (and holes) in the housing....and provides access to most of the cameras functions. In my system, the right grip buttons control the video, the left grip controls photography (as a general rule). - external monitor. This means you have a nice big screen (relatively speaking) to look at as you shoot. - bulletproof (again, relatively) machined aluminum housing, with double o-ring seals for the back door. - red filter built in. - GREAT light options - camera grip controls lights on/off (VERY cool and convenient!) The ONLY complaint I have about L&M (other than the price...you get what you pay for, but you can buy a car for what a fully equipped housing will run), is that they are in love with wet contacts. While I can, in theory, see the value of being able to change out lights underwater, I do not know of anyone who actually has done so, has plans to do so, or is doing so. So WHY do they continue to insist on this? You now have contacts that constantly have to be uber-cleaned and scrubbed so that they'll maintain electrical contacts from the battery to lights (I actually now carry nail files as part of my video equipment because of this...go figure). I definitely recommend L&M housings for your video cameras....they really are the best....one little flaw, tons of great features. You can't go wrong with them.

They gave an informational overview of where to paddle to see wildlife as well as other recommendations and safety tips. They provide life jackets, waterproof jackets and pants which were great too keep water off your clothes. There are porto potties available if you need to use the facilities. The staff were well very nice and helpful. The main con of our trip was the two person top sitting kayak we were on seemed to have problems with steering. No matter how hard we tried to turn right, the kayak always tended to veer the other direction which was frustrating. We got another kayak to check if they saw anything wrong visually on the water, but they couldn't see anything so maybe there was something going on with the underside of the kayak. Besides that, we had a nice time on the water and were able to enjoy seeing all the birds and cute otters and seals out and about. Later in the morning and early afternoon we even got to see the otters get more active and go diving for mud worms that looked like bright orange cigars. It was super cute seeing the otters sleeping nested in the kelp too. Try not to disturb them though since they need to conserve energy to stay warm! We unfortunately saw one tour group led by a guide that went right next to a sleeping pod of otters and woke them all up. Overall, fun place to go kayaking with wildlife! Glad we went on this trip here!

I knew the exact pair I was looking for the staff gladly helped me. I was very impressed with the staff knowledge of their products without being pushy. I tried the pair that I wanted on, but they didn't have the color I wanted in my size. They gladly checked the Fleet Feet in Santa Cruz to see if they had the color and sure enough they did! I was able to pay for the shoes the same day and they said that in two days I should hear from them that they had the shoes at the Monterey store. Sure enough, on Saturday I got a call and the shoes had arrived. I was out of town, but the employee assured me they would be waiting for me when I arrived. I picked the shoes up tonight after calling to confirm their close time (Yelp says 6 pm, but I called and they actually close at 7 pm). Since I was able to make it after work (score!-I work in Salinas so the original posted 6 pm close time would have been cutting it too close) I got my shoes tonight and ran 3 miles in them. Needless to say, I am very happy with this stores selection, customer service, non-pushy attitude, attentiveness and flexible hours. I will definitely be back next time I need my running shoes.
