Placed an order, items were in stock online But when I went to pick them up only one of them was ready and it was not obvious that the rest of my order would not be ready till next week. The employee helping me at the registern couldn't seem to care less and kept giving me attitude. Essentially putting the onus of blame on me, not the company. I then told him that I needed those pairs as soon as possible because the storm was coming tomorrow. He begrudgingly helped me find several other pairs to replace those and I thought everything would be kosher, I would pay the difference on what they were. He never mentioned that due to their policy he could not cancel the original order and I'd have to pay full price for the new pairs and then blindsided me with another $300 bill. I was visually upset by this to which he gave me more attitude and I said this is not my fault and then he said well. "It's not my our fault either, "you can just not show up next and it will be refunded." We can avoid picking those up and you won't be charged. Again placing the problem on me. Never once apologizing about the situation just continuously giving me attitude. The customer service would be a zero if I could give it that. Zero understanding of my situation. Zero respect for me just clearly wanted to leave and as soon as we were done he walked to the back room complaining about his day. Why he kept blaming me and acting like I was the nuisance, is beyond me. I get it, the day was very busy and long. Clearly he had it, also not my fault and no reason to treat me that way. Never apologizing about the situation the online system created. Never expressing any understanding for my poor experience. Never warning me that I'd have to pay twice and wait over a week for my money to be returned. Just blaming me and behaving very poorly. Oh, and the dude was going to throw away my receipt and I had to ask for it. What a PR*** I will go to KoP and avoid this location moving forward. Great selection of excellent quality boots and sneaks, knowledgeable sales people. I was out hiking once, wearing my old, excellent Italian hiking boots, when the sole of one suddenly peeled off. It was simply worn out. I limped back to my car, and fortunately found an REI store a few miles away. They not only had my same boot, but also an even better Italian brand, which I bought and have loved ever since. I also recently bought a pair of hiking sneaks which are excellent. This is why I think REI is terrific. read more

I haven't been to any Rei for probably a decade. In my younger years, I bought many hiking gears in Rei. Revisiting Rei reminds me of all the adventures in my past. While I'm not as active as I used to be, it's nice to visit Rei once in a while just to enjoy the vibe. Employees here are in incredibly friendly. I can't remember clearly if I had to pay for membership in the past (I lost the membership anyway--I had a different cell number and I can't even recall that number now). But now membership is $30 lifetime, not bad if you plan to shop here often. read more

Unfortunately, my boyfriend got a flat tire the night before a bike race. And even tho it appears that we have so many bike tires in our garage, we didn't have the specific bike tire needed for this race. Every single bike store nearby either didn't have the tire or they were closed. REI to the rescue... Their website said the needed tire was in stock in the Conshy REI. So with minutes to spare, we got in the car and drove the 15 miles to the store and arrived less than 10 minutes before closing. The store was cute as can be! All the mannequins were wearing masks! They even had masks at the door in case you forgot yours! A worker came to assist us as soon as we walked into the tire section of the store. However, the store did not have the needed tire even tho their website said they did. It was unfortunate and a total waste of our time to drive there. If the store was not so cute and the worker not so helpful I would rate them lower. But honestly, we will prob go back another time so I am giving them 3 stars. read more

I was heading h out Hershey, Pennsylvania where I love to explore nature and go on hikes. Before going, I decided to stop off at this REI to pick up some equipment. I came in and was looking for some permethrin bug spray. I asked a worker, who knew where it was and directed me to the product's location. After that, I peaked around the store for some other items such as light-weight hiking pants. However, they were quite expensive at almost $90, so I passed on purchasing them. I did pick out a nice bucket hat, which was fairly expensive, but was made out of a quality material that light-weight. REI also has a very large bike section! This store has taken great safety measures given that we are, unfortunately, in a pandemic due to COVID-19. They have masks and hand sanitizer available at the front of the store. The employees are also disinfecting the checkout counter and shopping baskets after use. Altogether, REI is fairly expensive, but has a variety of great items for use when in nature or wilderness. read more

So where to start? The outdoors is for everyone apparently... but at REI it's only for you if you have tons of expendable income. Despite the fact that REI tries quite hard to have a diverse staff there really is a target cu$tomer. Having shopped at this particular REI a number of times, I can tell you if you dont look like you own an Audi SUV with a Thule roofrack or if you show up wearing Nikes or other urban gear you'll be watched as you shop. While not nearly as bad as the KOP location this REI makes it pretty clear who they think should have access to the outdoors. REI in general does a great job of making basic camping equipment out of financial reach for all but the affluent. Even the REI branded gear (which I'd think would be the counterpoint to the insanely expensive brand names they carry) is WAY too expensive to be reasonable. Lol, I wonder what the actual cost to the manufacturer is for a cotton/polyester tshirt? REI active pursuits tshirt is like 45.00. But they talk about how SUSTAINABLY SOURCED it is. If someone can explain to me how price points like that are getting everyone into the outdoors I'd be glad to listen. The amount of money you'd need to get appropriate gear to go overnight camping at REI is wild. I dare you to go price it out... What could it cost to buy the required equipment to take your son camping or backpacking? I bet a new PlayStation is far less. But at least when I hit the lean to on the AT I'll be surrounded by people who look like me. Selection is great. Service is outstanding. Value is ok. As a longtime member of REI and a big advocate of the store up until by extremely negative experience, I am extremely disappointed with the bicycle service department. I guess the shop is for elitist road bike people or novice with big pocketbooks only. After going back-and-forth on the repair for four days the repair was not only not done but the components were never even researched or attempted to be sourced and I'm still waiting for Adam "the manager " to call me back.... Lol. The good news is since I left REI I have realized that a lot of other cycling stores are now very open to dealing with "regular "bikers at are more then happy to assist you and facilitate your repair without trying to separate you from the maximum about of money. Several years ago I purchased heated Salomon ski boots from REI. Unfortunately, after one season the heating function stopped working. REI worked diligently with Salomon to service the boots and get them back functioning. The boots worked fine for one year, however stopped working again. After taking the boots back again to REI, and specifically working with Curtis and the fantastic service team in Conshohocken, they resolved the issue with Salomon and had the boots covered by warranty. The team at REI went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied and back in the boots with all the functionality I expected. Great experience!! read more

The employees are sweet but man this store is so unorganized. I was looking for Patagonia products and there wasn't a distinguished section for it-- or other products. Just split between men, womens and kids. I looked in 4 different places and found Patagonia stuff just sporadically in place (clothing). The same goes for north face and other things. If you're looking to sift through hundreds of clothing and run around the store looking like you have ADHD than maybe this is for you. But if you're like me who knows what they want it's kind of a nightmare. This location is also a lot smaller than most REIs I've been to. Unclear if that's why there's poor organization. read more

There are no words to adequately express my profound appreciation for the extraordinary service provided to me by Will and Chewy at REI in Conshohocken, PA. I am on a 2,210 mile journey, via bicycle, from St. Augustine, FL to Bar Harbor, Maine for Bike the US for MS. This journey has been two years in the making with over $7,000 raised for Multiple Sclerosis. The journey started on April 21st and ends on May 26th. Between York, PA and Conshohocken, PA I had a crash that damaged my handlebars and front wheel. This crash should have ended by trip. However, I contacted REI and Will and Chewy jumped into action and installed new bars and straightened the wheel. Chewy also discovered a number of other serious issues that he fixed for me. I have never received such mind- blowing service from anywhere. Tomorrow I continue my journey all because of Chewy and Will at REI!!! I am forever grateful and will remember this as one of the key highlights of my entire journey. I've been patronizing this REI store for almost 10 years since I moved to Philadelphia and lived here from 2001-07 and even after returning to DC, it was the most convenient to my partner's place and Center City. The store is indeed cozy, located in a conveniently located strip mall in Conshohoken that makes the entire local a destination place. You can come over to shop REI, have lunch, do food shopping at Genuardis, get a haircut, all within walking distance. Its smaller footprint compared to other REI stores lends itself to a cozy, sometimes a bit crowded feeling but the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I've made some major purchases here, from a $5,000 mountain bike and outdoor camera equipment, all the way down to bike gloves. Any REI store is going to be pricey. But the dividends, the climate and the selection make up for it. read more

Pretty standard as far as REIs go--knowledgeable staff, good selection, occasional deals. The diamond in the rough of this REI is how amazing its Garage Sale is compared to other REIs. At other stores the Garage Sale is one day, and takes place in the regular store. This REI, though, has an empty storefront next to it that they fill to the brim with outdoor goodies and hold the sale for three days (starting on Friday), with deals getting progressively better as the weekend rolls on (they also hold some stock in reserve, so it's worth going a couple days). In particular, they have a lot of sleeping bags and pads that get shipped in from other states where you can't always re-sell "bedding" items. And if you can come on Friday it's pretty quiet compared to other Garage Sales I've been to, too. They even gave out free iced coffee last time I went! read more

Although this REI could be considered to be smaller than other REIs, I still love this place. Anything related to outdoor activity, you will find it here. Everyone I've dealt with here (except one older, grouchy guy) has been incredibly helpful. The variety and quality of gear you can purchase here is excellent. Further, they truly do honor their lifetime, money back guarantee for anything you buy from them. My wife had a pair of snowboard boots that weren't wearing properly and we returned them after using them for a few months. They were not lacing properly and they allowed her to get another pair that worked properly. I've bought shoes, clothes, camping gear, luggage, snowboarding equipment... and have been very satisfied with all my purchases. When I need to get my gear on, I go nowhere else. REI has a great selection and good staff. They are all knowledgeable about their departments. My all time favorite department is the shop. Run by Carl, this is the best quality work I've had done on my bike. I'm there all summer getting more work done then an Orange County housewife, and they've patched my bike more times than I can count, and always do a great job. I am also a member of the co-op. Which means I get cash back for everything I buy, plus I get to vote on the board of directors, which makes me feel important (ha). REI's staff certainly do make up for their dagger-in-your-throat prices. I love going to any sporting goods store, though I do generally get very disappointed that I can't afford to fill my cart with all of the equipment that I'd want... The good news here is that even if they don't have what you need in stock, they try really hard to find it. Plus, these staffers are so coy about all of their gear knowledge. FOR INSTANCE: I asked a female employee if she knew anything about water filtration options and she replied, "A little." What then occurred was nothing short of incredible. She filled my wee little head full of everything i ever needed to know about filters, tablets, lazers, viruses, floaters and all sorts of scary/not scary tidbits for water safety during your lengthy camping trip. She even included info for going abroad! Hot damn! I will probably stop spending so much time at EMS now, even if it is 30ish minutes closer. read more

I've been a lifelong customer of EMS but today's visit to REI has pretty much converted me over! I was in need of some hiking boots and I thought I'd try this location based upon a recommendation from a friend. I was impressed with the layout, the wide variety of selections. Much more extensive skiing and biking departments than EMS and great brands. I was greeted not too long after entering the shoe department. The fella who helped me out was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, not pushy, very patient and just an overall well balanced employee. I took close to 30 minutes to make my decision so I certainly applaud his patience with me. He offered good choices for exactly what I was looking for in a boot and I left feeling very confident in my purchase. I did become a member and can't wait for the next garage sale event because after speaking with a couple of employees, it sounds ridiculously good!! It's not exactly in my backyard but that is probably a good thing because I'd be in there all the time. Very glad I stopped in and couldn't be happier! read more

For my outdoor equipment and clothing needs, this is my favorite place. Probably have shopped here in excess of a dozen times over the past several years, not to mention many online orders. Extensive inventory, but above all, the excellent sales staff make a big difference. They know the products they sell, often times intimately from years of use or experience, and they'll freely share that knowledge and make recommendations based on my interests and needs as a customer. Most recent visit, they didn't have a particular item in my size, so the guy at checkout was able to order it for me, to be delivered to my home within days, no shipping charge. I suppose I could have gone home to order it, but he quickly took care of it right on the spot while I was paying for other items. Yes, be sure to become a member for those bonus points. read more

Saturday, January 6, 2018 I went into REI to buy a pair of gloves, unfortunately the men's selection in accessories was very thin and I was informed that a shipment will be in on Monday. The sales help in that department was very cordial, friendly and customer service driven. All good and I returned on Monday. Monday, January 8, 2018 around 1:00 PM I barely survived the membership assault at the register... Having made a $175.00 purchase of a great jacket a month prior I was excited to see the shipment of gloves at REI. Found a pair and proceeded to the register. The teller was a guy who immediately asked if I had a discount card with them...I said "no and I didn't want one". He then said..."You can save a lot of money on as few as 3 purchases made here"....I said that "I don't see shopping here all that much"...I then felt like he was trying to intimidate me and put me down for not wanting to spend another $20.00 on an annual membership. He then said something like "do you realize that you will be saving 3,000% of the cost of your purchases", I was dumbfounded to hear some bogus information being thrown at me. I said no thank you and left as he handed me my receipt and mumbled something else to put me down again. Having worked in sales myself and understand that there may have been a dollar reward to signing up a customer for a membership or credit card, but his behavior and treatment of the customer was clearly abusive. I would hope if management was close by that they would have called him aside and reprimanded him. I understand that one nasty employee's behavior doesn't mean that the whole company is trained in this manner, however, I probably won't be back based on a very vial taste in my mouth at the register. read more

I have purchased several items over the years from this REI Store in Conshohocken. Just went this past weekend to purchase a family tent and other camping items. The customer service at this store is excellent. They spent lots of time with me answering my questions and giving me tips when it came to the right outdoor equipment for my family. I even asked for a price adjustment on a GPS watch I had purchased for my daughter several weeks ago as the watch had gone on sale during their Labor Day Sale. They did the price adjustment without hesitation and even engaged my daughter with questions about what she liked in the watch, etc. It's a well outfitted store with knowledgeable people that care about the customer's enjoyment of their purchase. The associates are genuinely interested in learning about what customers like when they purchase from REI so they can pass on that information to other customers. I come here sometimes just to walk around the store and wish that I was more active so that I could buy more things. I remember when I was a kid and they had the climbing wall - I always wanted to play on that. I've always been happy with items that I've purchased from there - hiking boots, bikes, clothing, outdoor books that I can never find anywhere else. Some of the items are overpriced, but alas that is the outdoor niche market. The sales people are knowledgeable if you have questions from what type of backpack to buy or what kayak paddles you need. Sometimes it's just great to research there. It's not the newest store ever (and if 5 Below ever vacated they could totally swallow up that space) but I still like going there. read more

After a failed trip to Dick's in search of ski pants (in winter, have you), we came to REI. An active man's haven, this place isn't afraid to charge for their expertise in all things outdoor. This strip-mall location is a little odd, but worth the trip. After a 3-minute pitch on the membership co-op, our cashier accidentally rang up a ski coat twice. I went in here today to get information on buying a new bike. They were busy, so I wasn't too upset that it took a good 5 minutes before someone was available to talk with, but once I asked one of the girls for some help, she was more than accommodating. She even explained that they don't work on commission like the other bike shops in the area do, so there was no pressure to buy. She even took a few extra minutes to talk about pedals and bike shoes with me, since I would need to get those as well. As soon as I get the money, I am definitely going back there to buy my new bike! Good for camping and hiking gear. Do not buy Thule products (bike racks, roof racks) here unless (i) you know exactly what you want, (ii) have price shopped, (iii) know the alternatives / what would work (e.g., the answer to: what kit do I need to buy to get this roof rack to work on my car?), (iv) and are comfortable assembling independently. Much better alternatives exist for the same items (including, literally, uHaul). This stuff gets expensive quickly. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable, but sometimes the store experiences the Lowe's-syndrome -- lots of staff, a moderate amount of customers, but quite difficult for any customer to get assistance. read more

I love REI, they always have great stuff and good deals during sale times, but the Conshohocken store is the worst of about five stores that I have shopped in. I have been to this store a few times when living nearby and have always been disappointed by the service. At the Marlton store you get attention almost immediately, as in stores in NC I've been to. The Conshy store just stinks at service, I had to go in today because the Marlton store doesnt carry Fivefingers shoes, I got no service and no shoes, but I'm actually glad I didn't put any money into that location's stats. We bought a pair of Salomon hiking boots 10 months ago at REI Conshohocken. With only occasional wear on flat ground, the shoes just fell apart. We asked REI to replace the shoes and they acted like this wear was completely normal. Who could expect shoes to last more than 10 months? They refused to replace and said theyd offer a discount on a new pair. The manager held his ground and offered no help. Very disappointed, wont be shopping at REI any more. This isnt the way to treat customers. LL Bean will have the business from now on. read more

You'd be hard-pressed to find a store that meets the needs of the outdoor enthusiast more than REI. The staff have always been kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. They are enthusiastic about the activities they participate in and often encouraging of a customer's interest, even those of us who are new to the worlds of hiking, biking, running, camping, etc. Shopping here offers and advantage as the company is a co-op and you will receive your dividends back in March. The amount is usually about 10% of all of your eligible purchases during the year. I like that they sell maps and guides for popular hiking trails and state parks - items that can be hard to find elsewhere. I find their prices to be fairly competitive with similar stores like EMS and Campmoor. I buy my favorite Halo snack bars here and they offer a 20% discount when you buy an entire box. I also applaud their stewardship efforts and the community building they do with educational programs, travel, and community service. read more

REI is my go to store for backpacking gear but they also carry climbing, camping, skiing, biking, canoeing, and other stuff. The sporting clothes (think hippy chick, not spandex) is a part of the store as well. The store carries a lot of bikes, they have their own brand, and do repairs as well. Lots of biking gear. Best place to go for Yakima and Thule vehicle rack equipment. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, most are avid recreational-ists and give experienced advice. I also recommend you try their rental program. Why buy a canoe when you can rent? Check it out. Read a review that said prices are high. Comparing to Amazon and other reputable sites, I'd disagree and say it's competitive. If you're a REI member ($20 for a lifetime!) you get a rebate check for purchases made each year - I just cashed my 2010 check for $40. read more
