Nice when stuff goes on clearance
    Robert S.

It's always nice to stop at a store like REI that sells quality merchandise and find stuff on clerance. Many people buy stuff during the season they are in, but many of us, like to get items on clearance that might be last season's or that might have not sold well in the past few months. As long as the item fits and goes with my other stuff in the closet, that's game. On a good day, I have been able to find items at REI and other stores at 90% off....so it just takes some time to look around, and be patient.....

The vegan daughter wanted a bottle of hot sauce. I thought we were going to a grocery store. Imagine my surprise and confusion when I grabbed the ice pick handle. The REI stands for Recreational Equipment Inc. This is a Co-op. It reminds me of a small Outdoor World. There is a membership and if you pay for it, you get a discount. They push this pretty hard. I hope the daughter loves the hot sauce because I'd come back.

i stopped into REI this morning with my daughter and it was a great visit. She had been talking about getting some new bouldering footwear as her current ones were petty worn. There was a hole in the left and right. we arrived about 10 after 10, the open time. We knew something was up as we walked up and a dozen people were standing around. They opened a little late but it was nice to walk into a uncrowded store. I was checking out kayaks for a bit, just for fun. REI really is a wonderland of items if you are a outdoors adventurous type. I got out of that section soon enough before I spent silly money on something. The camping area had a lot of cutting edge fun stuff too but I made it out of there ok too. I found my daughter in the climbing area. There was a gal helping her that definitely knew her stuff. I was a little surprised how well she knew climbing, I wouldn't think that was mandatory for the position. With her guidance we had it narrowed down to 2 sets a shoes and then made a good call on a pair. They were a little pricier than we planned on but they were very good quality. It was a great visit, at REI.

REI CO OP is a newly added addition to the Palm Beach Gardens Mall. The staff is extremely helpful with all your needs. The store offers a large selection of outdoor goods from camping, running, hiking, and so much more. They have bikes, Kayaks, tenting etc. Great customer service. The store is new and well stocked.

What a cool freaking store! Screw Dicks (slaps knee) and any other sports store! They finally opened a store that has ACTUAL traveling needs such as gear, equipment, and clothing, for your potential trip you have planned in the near future. I have an upcoming trip for Las Vegas, and decided to spend it doing the total opposite of lounging at the pool, or playing the slots, tipping at the local strip club, stuffing my face at one of the many all you can eat buffets....NOPE....(okay well, don't count me out for those things...will just be done at night)....my wild ass is going hiking! Upon my search for hiking shoes, I was coming up short, since I leave in 1 day, Amazon wasn't an option, and Dicks selection was slim, not to mention hiking shoes foot a hefty bill (pun intended?) especially since I don't know how often I'll be hiking, probably not as much as I would like, because I live in Florida, so I mean LOL. Then I remembered that this store existed and I never really explored it. So I purchased some shoes online that I got at a ridiculous price...$44, discounted for $150! Was able to pick them up this afternoon...win, win. Hit up the store and it was SO COOL. Picked up my shoes and went to check out the rest of the store. Ended up getting some energy gels, a backpack, and a UV face bluff. Listen I'm not going to lie it's a bit pricey. But if you search for the deals and you're not necessarily picky, there's a chance you can hit gold like I did. Plus I joined the membership program, $30 one time fee, they give you a $30 gift card (to use on future purchases) Membership gets you 10% off all purchases, free delivery if ordered online and a bunch of other perks I don't care to remember because they didn't really benefit me lol. But this store is so worth it to check out if you're in the area or have an upcoming trip!

Best store around. Only downside is not having a store south of Palm Beach County. Almost criminal. But, well worth the trip and I will continue to commute for the lifetime membership and return policy.

In 1935 Seattle natives Lloyd and Anderson realized they needed a better way to purchase outdoor gear. REI was started with the search for an ice axe. Where the Anderson's lived, in order to purchase an ice axe they had to use a middle man who charged an inflated prices for fake Austrian gear. The Andersons put their thinking caps on and decided to make use of Mary's ability to speak German. They decided to go straight to the axe source in Austria where they were able to purchase a high quality Akadem Pickel ice axe for only $3.50!. Members of their Mountaineers group wanted in on the action. With more buying power they were able to purchase even more gear at lower prices and in this way they established a co-op. In 1938 the co-op was officially formed and the 21 people who wanted to join were charged a $1 lifetime membership fee. On November 30, 1938, the Andersons put out a bulletin that read "Intent of the founders of this organization was to secure sufficient membership to make group buying possible; to distribute the goods with as little overheads expense as possible, using membership cooperation with the work as much as possible; to gradually build up a reserve for purchasing stock; to have the membership fee ($1.00) so that everyone interested will be financially able to join." The first retail shop was a shelf in a grocery store. In 1942 the Anderson's moved to a new room down the hall from The Mountaineers club. Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest in 1963 was their first employee. In the 1970's they only sold gear for experienced climbers, backpackers, and mountaineering expeditions. In the 1980's they branched out to other outdoor sports like camping and cycling. Clothing was then added to their product line. REI stands for Recreational Equipment, Inc. Today the business has grown to 165 retail stores in 39 states. If you want to join the co-op it will now cost you $20 for a lifetime membership and that entitles you to discounts and exclusive gear. They currently have over 19 million members. Every spring they will return 10 percent of what you spent back to you. You can also trade in your used gear. Most REI stores have bike and ski repair shops. They still sell climbing and backpack gear but they sell more of their popular clothing and family camping equipment. They also market vacations and courses. That ice axe that started everything still figures prominently today. It is the door handle to the entrance of every store. Need another reason to love them? After the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, they joined the 2018 NRA boycott and stopped orders from Vista Outdoor, who makes outdoor products and rifles. REI opened their first Florida store in 2013 in Jacksonville. This 23,000-square-foot REI store recently opened in the brand new Boca Uptown lifestyle center which is a mixture of luxury apartments and retail space. They were the first tenant to move into the complex. I have been obsessed with the idea of climbing Mount Everest ever since reading Into Thin Air. This store ticks the box of my love of the outdoors and adventure even though the reality is more couch potato. It is such a cool store to check out. I loved the kayaks, hiking boots, Brooks running shoes and clothing, and the Yeti products. If money was no object, I would have snapped up a Nemo Stargazer luxury chair for $219.95. So much fun stuff to browse! REI Boca Raton plans to offer a wide range of programs to connect people to a life outdoors. In 2019, REI donated over $140,000 to local outdoor nonprofits in Florida including funds for The Miami Foundation, Florida Trail Association and the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association of Florida. They plan to further invest in the outdoor community. I am excited to see what they come up with. Adventures and outdoor explores will be thrilled that REI has moved into their neighborhood.

Highly recommending membership ($30 lifetime, 20% off all service and a bunch of freebies)

When we made our reservation, Mike took the time to understand who would be riding--my wife and our 16‑year‑old granddaughter--and recommended the perfect bikes for each of them. His attention to detail and genuine care made us feel confident before we even arrived. The "concierge" service was phenomenal. BocaBike delivered the bikes directly to our location exactly at the time we requested, and they stayed in touch with us throughout the rental via text, which made communication incredibly easy. When the bikes were dropped off, Mike didn't rush; he walked us through every feature, answered questions, and even encouraged us to take a quick test ride before he left. Each bike came with a compact lock and helmet, which was extremely helpful. The bikes themselves were flawless--comfortable, smooth, powerful, and capable of easily hitting 20 mph. They felt solid and stable, handling road cracks and Boca's wide sidewalks effortlessly. We felt safe, secure, and fully in control the entire time. When we asked to extend our fifth day a bit, Mike was incredibly generous and accommodating--another example of BocaBike going above and beyond. All in all, these professional‑grade e‑bikes truly elevated our vacation. Exceptional service, exceptional equipment, and exceptional people. Highly recommended!

But if good service, great advices, and perfect fitting is what you are looking for then driving there should become your only goal. I was advised to go there by fantastic riders from "the mountains" (Colorado), and regardless of the flatness we encounter here in Florida I have no regrets when it comes to have gotten my bike properly fitted. After trying out and visiting many different fitters around south Florida, I am very glad I ended up fitting my bike at Racer's Edge. John is a truly passionated rider and professional fitter, definitely not in for the sale only!!! Fitting my road bike there was a true success and I would recommend it to anyone that lives over 100 miles over. If you live 100 miles away, the good thing about getting your bike fitted at Racer's Edge is that the quality of the fitting will make you want to ride your bike home. So if you understand the concept of spending a bit more money upfront versus spending lesser amounts in a repetitive manner then you definitely found your spot. In the contrary, if you like to have things done cheap and don't mind spending the time and energy to get things done and redone, costing in the end much more money, you'll definitely find a way to brag about cheaper prices elsewhere. Beware that the fitting of a bike isn't done in a single step, and that you will usually be charged for both steps, especially if you starting without a bike. As much as I read some review that complain about this practice, I found it perfectly and clearly explained to me upfront. In the end, I actually found it completely justified! In short, if you are anywhere in south Florida looking for the right place to get sound advices, great bikes and top notch fitting simply make an appointment and get there!
