I was lucky enough to stop an older couple, who ironically shared my special day, with getting married, so happy birthday to me, and congrats to them to take my picture in a few spots. The main boardwalk was fairly busy, nothing crazy, as parades I've been too in Buffalo, NY and surrounding suburbs. The weather to me was perfect, and not cold at all, for the parade. Parade well organized, police presence, for parade/ traffic control, full of Christmas cheer and patrons were friendly and cautious of others in attendance. They tell you how big your umbrella can be, and don't allow dogs during the summer time. Having visited now I can see why there might be a need for some rules as there's just not a lot of space on this beach to share. The beach was okay, but nothing special and quite cramped. There is also a lot of wild growth there that can definitely contribute to your hay fever. I urge any of the five-star reviewers head out to California and visit any beach there. You will be amazed.

Something about the sprocket was bent. Ugh! Instead, I sprayed some sunblock on my arms neck and face, put on a hat, and took a walk. The beach is stunning. Flat, warm, sunny and not overly crowded for a July weekend. While the beach is not step free, they're trying hard to make it as accessible as possible with mats and ramps that can support a wheelchair. That's awesome. I did see a bunch of offroaders. Apparently, you can get a permit to bring your 4WD onto the beach. Pretty darned awesome, that is! What are those huge concrete structures? They're WWII-era bunkers! Yes, these huge installations were built to counter the fear of German U-boats invading Philadelphia via the Delaware River. Easy to get to beach. Shallow calm water. There are many families and children (mid August 2024) and it was peaceful and chill. Clean gendered public toilets and outdoor shower if you need. Friendly life guards on duty. Lifeguard Trent was just wonderful to chat with and watch him help others with kindness and care. The Cape May ferry terminal is near and the ferry comes and goes. The Lion's club hosts a stand that rents umbrellas, rafts and other beach gear. They also sell hotdogs, pizza, icees and snacks. I had strawberry-lemon which was refreshingly perfect. Beyond-the-call-of-duty Lifeguard update! These pushy women sat beneath the lifeguard chair and after asking where the rental shack is about 10 times and being told--they said they couldn't walk there (it's not far) to get an umbrella. They whined and whined. Trent took the umbrella down from the lifeguard chair and set it up for them to use!!! So so generous of you Trent! I highly recommend this beach if you're looking for ease. Parking likely easier earlier in the day. I beached til evening!

Love Broadkill Beach!!!…read more This is a Delaware Bay beach, between Slaughter Beach and Lewes Beach. It's my Bizarro World beach from North Cape May and Villas, across the bay. Unlike Jersey, I saw evidence of campfires on this beach, as well as 2 cars, and other ATV mule-type vehicles. While a fire on the beach at night seems SOOO fun, I respect why this is not permitted in NJ, and was a little concerned about the legality of it in DE. Cars on the beach are just not cool. It can severely damage the ecosystem and/or dunes, not to mention the hundreds of crab burrows I saw in the sand. And of course these idiots got their car stuck, and spent an hour pushing it out of the sand. Leave your car on the road. All that aside, Broadkill Beach is a very cool beach, in a small one-road community near Milton, DE. The beach itself is beautiful, with tranquil bay waters. I did not see any jellyfish, thank goodness, nor shark fishermen, like I do in Cape May County. This made me feel more safe with my toddler swimming. No lifeguards, but that means no beach tags. Just beware the current, because it's strong. You can get some medium waves, but not huge. Nice long stretch to walk. Many people had dogs with them. Most dogs were leashed, which was so appreciated, and showed their respect for the environment, and welfare of others. There is free public parking just off the road leading to the beach. Main beach entrance is right there. General store is right across from parking, with all kinds of supplies. This place has such a relaxed, safe, fun, beachy vibe!

THE Best Beach in Delaware!!!!…read more Bethany Beach has been our family vacation spot for the past 32 years... and it has grown, developed, and maintained its family friendly vibe for all of those years!! Tucked on the coastal side of Route 1, the entire town of Bethany is an oasis of vacation. With only the Sea Colony condos as a building over three stories tall, Bethany is not your typical overrun East Coast beach, but maintains a feeling of small town family friendly atmosphere that keeps vacation calm and relaxing. With private gated communities to the North, quaint small town in the middle, and Sea Colony to the South, Bethany Beach has amazing options for every family!! The main street from Route 1 greets you with the totem pole and extends directly through shops, dining, and entertainment directly to the Boardwalk. Without many cheap hotels and mostly family house rentals, you see full families with generations enjoying vacation together.

The boardwalk was nice with a few shops (there are more shops along the main street). I could potentially see a parking issue if there was a large influx of people so I would recommend getting there early during peak season. This beach is decidedly sleepier than Ocean City, Sea Isle, and many non-LBI beaches, and most of its charm is from its inherent "coziness." The lifeguards were very kind and vigilant, making sure that the no-swimming zones were properly demarcated and that we could enjoy the offings of the beach. By the time we got here the facilities up front were closed so I have no idea what was available sans for restrooms and an outdoor shower. According to the website, shower and changing facilities are available, along with a food concession, chair & umbrella rentals, even a Mobi-Mat which allows wheelchairs to be pushed onto the beach (such a great idea). The sandy area is very wide and stretches for 3 miles with zero shady spots or trees. Lifeguards were gone for the day with their stands turned upside down. I noticed some vehicles actually parked on the beach near the northern end, a very cool perk that is not allowed back home. Ocean conditions were fairly calm but most folks were in waist-high water at most. OVERALL: Spacious real estate, but coming from Hawaii, my expectations are set too high, LOL.
