My husband likes dates (think Medjools from Costco, Traders, etc), me, not so much. I decided to do some research into other varieties, hoping I'd like a different one, and found out that there are also different ripening stages of dates: Kimri, Khalal, Rutab, and Tamar (the most popular). I was intrigued by the Rutab stage and started looking for availability in the Coachella Valley where we live. I read about Saralyn and Regulus Date Ranch from another local business; Bread & Flours, and am SO glad I did. May is late in the season, but Saralyn said she had some availability and we could come out to taste and pickup. Regulus Ranch is such a incredible operation (see all Yelp reviews for more on that), and Saralyn is so knowledgeable and hospitable! Their Tamar Medjools are so superior to any my husband has ever had, and I have found my new obsession with the Rutab Medjools (turns out I love them too, just less sweet/dry). We had to come again in June for more. We are looking forward to the upcoming season in Sept/Oct. when I can try my next quest: the yellow Barhi date (Khalal stage). So, we were too full for lunch and instead went to buy some dates. The first place we went to was still COVID closed and their website was down. The second was wholesale only. Ysabel found a place online nearby that was open. When we got there, the gate was closed so I asked her to call. The owner said to push the gate open and come in. We did. She was very gracious, took us into the packing room and I packed a box and she packed the other one. She had previously quoted a price for 10 pounds but the boxes weighed 13. She said not to worry. On top of that we were $3 short. (Who carry's cash anymore?). I said I could Venmo the difference for the actual weight and she wouldn't hear of it. Then she drove us on a tour of her ranch. Our last day in the area, we had the great fortune to find Regulus Date Ranch. Although we were thinking to just buy dates to take back home to Florida we were treated to the most amazing experience by Saralyn, the Ranch's proprietress. She escorted us around the property in her golf cart, trailed by assorted dogs and insect-loving peacocks. She enthusiastically shared her vast knowledge of date palm culture, propagation and harvesting. She had just gotten back from a trip to Egypt where she saw first hand the offspring of her own date palms and was excited to relate that experience to us. Being date lovers we were delighted with all of it! We were introduced to all the folks who work on the ranch and learned about their responsibilities. At the end of our impromptu tour we were taken to the packing house where we were able to select the dates we wanted to take home. Yumm... they are the BEST dates ever!! The whole experience was amazing and we can't thank Saralyn enough for making our desert trip that much more special. It's a must do for anyone visiting the area! read more

Overall - The most amazing dates and date ranch tour one could hope for! Taste - The dates they grow are of the highest quality. Although they sell different quality dates, even the lowest quality dates they donate tasted better than any dates I've gotten in the store. Their premium dates were amazing with such rich flavor and sweetness! We bought a box and will definitely be ordering more for ourselves and as gifts. Service - Saralyn Delk, the owner and operator of this amazing date ranch, gave us an amazing tour loaded with information. She greeted us at the gate and took us around the property on a gator. We learned about the different kinds of dates they grow (Barhi & Medjool), tasted the different dates in the various stages of harvesting, and saw some of the animals. We weren't rushed and she was really happy to give details about everything we wanted to know. She was funny and raw and you could tell that she really takes pride in keeping her ranch clean and growing the best dates ever! Facility - The ranch itself is kept very clean and free of brush. Additionally, their packaging facility is kept immaculate. Need to know - There are peacocks on the property! All I have to say is that, you should make Regulus Date Ranch your first visit if you are tracking out to visit an actual date farm. We have been to date stands and stores in the past, but you can tell they are literally there to get as many paying customers in and out as quickly as possible, not much information or paying attention to details. The owner Saralyn is absolutely amazing! Before visiting we called to see if we would be able to look at a couple of the Date trees on the property before purchasing, and she said that would be no problem. The farm is a little hard to find, but you just drive to the end on one of the roads and let yourself in through the dual metal gates. After arriving we were greeted by Saralyn and she is so friendly and welcoming, and treats you like she has been your friend for years. We thought we would just take a couple photos of the trees in the front, but instead she told us to hop into her cart and she literally drove us around her whole property, explaining the process, the history, what her philosophy is, and how much effort she puts into her products. After the great tour, she brings us into the packing house, even though they are sold out for the season, and puts together a small package of dates they keep for themselves and workers, and offers them to us to take home, but doesn't want to charge because they aren't the premium quality she would sell. We insisted on making a donation, and we were so happy with the entire experience. We plan to visit in fall again, when they will be selling their new harvest. We recently had the opportunity to visit Regulus Date Ranch and were so glad we did. We were a group of four. The owner, Saralyn, took us around her grove on her "gator" and what fun we had. Saralyn is a wonderful host - hard working, super intelligent and very entertaining. We learned so much from her about the production of high quality dates and the challenges of cultivating them and preparing them for the market. She's an amazing lady! Her property is beautiful and the experience of visiting has much too offer, including the siting of some 80 peacocks and 2 large tortoises! We didn't have a reservation (as I didn't look carefully at her website) but she took us on without hesitation and was very generous with her time and keen wit. Great place for a double date (without another couple)! Yes, that was my selling point to my wife..."how about a date on a date farm?" I bet no guy ever asked her that before! Anyway, Saralyn was a fantastic guide and so down to earth. She built the place while her husband was alive and this was going to be the ultimate get away for their retirement but he unfortunately passed away prior to that coming to fruition. She allowed me to harvest some rutab (barhi) along with Alfredo and her crew. I was in a cutting competition with Juan (and lost). Sampled a slew of different varieties of dates AND got to take home some medjool dates even though we were a week out from the beginning of that harvest. Saralyn has a secret stash of these beauties (from last season) in her freezer that taste absolutely amazing. We had an amazing tour of this fantastic date farm. The owner, Saralyn, drove us around the farm and we got to see the trees, the irrigation system, how the peacocks help with insect control and the packing plant. Truly an amazing tour. The dates were not being processed but we were able to sample some of the fruit from the last harvest and Saralyn also kindly sent some home with us. She said they were not her best quality but they were some of the best dates I have ever had, so I can only imagine how good her best quality dates are. I would suggest calling to set up a time to tour as this is not your typical road side fruit stand. With that said we called from the front gate and Saralyn took us around. We will be back in the future when more of our family is in town as it was a great way to see this amazing fruit being produced. read more
