This year, their stand is in the center section of the back lot just across from the Far West Funghi stand. They have a rotating selection of dried dates which are sold by the pound but you can certainly buy less than a pound quantities if you so choose. With the current shelter in place, no samples are given so you'll have to eyeball and ask the kind seller for his opinion in meeting your palate profile. It's certainly nice to have the variety of foods and especially produce throughout California at these markets. Kudos for still being there through these trying times!

The physical farm is very beautiful with fruit trees everywhere. The market is clean and bright, full of items I would like to buy and also give as gifts from local farmers. I saw vegetables and handcrafted oils, soaps, native basketry, and the beautiful smoothie bar. I bought the most fragrant kale, plump green onions, russet potatoes, berry with ginger jam and a spicy hot sauce. The farm brings in products from other local businesses. The farm is easy to reach from Indio or Palm Desert. Having organic treasures like this is such a treat. Do check it out.

The store is on the northeast corner of Jackson and Avenue 50. {If you don't want to have heart palpitations, come in from Calhoun Street going south and turn right on Avenue 50, and right into the lot on the corner of Jackson because the cars from the two two-lane roads hustling at that Stop Sign are enough to raise your blood pressure a lot.} We saw displays of the most beautiful produce inside the door. Plump oranges, zucchinis, broccoli, cucumbers and many other items show off their freshness and aroma. We found cucumbers, zucchini, carrots and the most fragrant strawberries ever. A bottle of Pico Pica hot sauce rounded out the purchase. Their food truck is parked on the southeast corner of their lot. @elowtitos @lgdesertstore We ordered two carne asada mulitas, a burrito, and loaded fries. Everything was delicious. The staff in the store as well as the food truck are so lovely. My husband was using a walker and everyone in the store was super helpful. We look forward to scooting over often now that we know about this wonderful group of people and the magnificent fruits and vegetables.

I decided to do…read moresome research into other varieties, hoping I'd like a different one, and found out that there are also different ripening stages of dates: Kimri, Khalal, Rutab, and Tamar (the most popular). I was intrigued by the Rutab stage and started looking for availability in the Coachella Valley where we live. I read about Saralyn and Regulus Date Ranch from another local business; Bread & Flours, and am SO glad I did. May is late in the season, but Saralyn said she had some availability and we could come out to taste and pickup. Regulus Ranch is such a incredible operation (see all Yelp reviews for more on that), and Saralyn is so knowledgeable and hospitable! Their Tamar Medjools are so superior to any my husband has ever had, and I have found my new obsession with the Rutab Medjools (turns out I love them too, just less sweet/dry). We had to come again in June for more. We are looking forward to the upcoming season in Sept/Oct. when I can try my next quest: the yellow Barhi date (Khalal stage).
