Even though everything we've heard has been negative, we are always excited to try something new in Toledo, and this week our local newspaper gave Regalo a surprisingly good review, so we popped in the same day to see what it was all about. And long story short, it's not really about anything. From the atmosphere, which is non-existent, to the service which was disinterested at best, to the food that was one step down from hotel food (nice plating, bland to awful flavors), we will not be back. And honestly, it's the atmosphere alone that kills what could otherwise be a passable, generic, Americanized Italian restaurant. The restaurant is in the middle of the casino, with no actual walls buffering you from the slot machines, and canned top 40 music. And if for some odd reason, you thought to take your significant other out for a date, as the couple next to us was on, you'll be saddened by your choice in nice clothes, when you're surrounded by elderly casino junkies wearing shorts and tank tops. It's just a bizarre setting with marginal everything. There is zero reason to go to Regalo unless you're already at the casino and starving. And even then, I'd recommend just jumping in your car and driving across the river to Downtown Toledo. Anywhere else is better than this place.

I REALLY wanted to like this place! We used to come to the previous restaurant that occupied this space. I love Italian food, but not here.... I made reservations online for 2 for my husband's birthday, which I noted in the reservation. We came early so we could gamble a bit before we ate. Our reservation was for 5pm. We showed up at 4:45. The restaurant was almost empty and the hostess was talking to another person who I believe worked at the casino (she had on a uniform) We waited a few minutes for her to finish, then she looked at us and asked how many. I told her we had a reservation for 2 for 5. She asked our name, then looked at her screen for probably 45 seconds, looking like she couldn't find our name. Then took us to a table. While we were eating, I kept getting messages on my phone that our table was ready and they were going to cancel our reservation at 5:30 if we did not check in! Nothing was mentioned about a birthday celebration, why ask on the reservation if it isn't going to at least be mentioned. I believe the hostess never checked us in, hence the messages I kept receiving. Our server was Janis, and she was extremely nice and efficient. She brought out a basket of bread that was good, but almost wet? I am used to bread being crusty on the outside. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer and both of us liked it, but we didn't love it. It had a lot of fresh garlic on it to the point that it was almost hot. Raw garlic is hot. The Caesar salad was good, mine with a couple of pieces of anchovies. I ordered a 6 oz. filet that was cooked perfectly on garlic mashed potatoes with green beans. The husband had spaghetti and meatballs. He said the meatballs were good, but he did not finish the spaghetti and did not want to take it home. My meal was extremely salty! I like salt, but this was over powering. Between the salt and the garlic, it made for a mostly disappointing meal. I still taste garlic the next day. I had to drink 2 bottles of water after we got home because I was so dry from the salt. The decor is kind of plain, they took down all of the glass sculptures that used to hang from the ceiling, and the big booths that they used to have against the wall are gone. I think we will stick with the sports bar. Regalo fell short for us, and that is a shame

Service was amazing! I wanted to try the cheese wheel for my birthday and to check it off my bucket list. It is a Parmesan wheel. It was really cool to see and experience! The bruschetta was hella good as well! Id recommend

I don't ever post reviews, so I hope that shows you how mad I am…read more I first tried this restaurant 10 years ago for my dinner pre prom and didn't like it. From what I remember the food tasted awful and was just terrible all around. Fast forward to today, I ordered DoorDash to give them a try again. Now why would I do that? My coworker and I were just talking shit about this place this past week and wondered how they were still open. Mind you, I've only tried them once prior in my teens, so I figured I'd just give it another shot. My mistake. For context, I ordered the Oglio (have had better at other places, but that's not the point of this review) and the Asiago al Forno. What I received for the Asiago al Forno was a box of shredded cheese straight out of the bag and some bread. Now, having worked in the food industry, I understand food quality will be different when you order take out versus sitting down at the restaurant. I fucking do. But if this restaurant is so worried about how the quality of the food shows up to my place, maybe it shouldn't be up to order on DoorDash. Mind you, I've ordered baked/melted cheese from other places and have never had an issue. Exactly what they advertised is exactly what I got. But "Ciao!"? Lmao. What really gets me is how someone, chef/server/ whomever, thought that this was okay. You're charging me almost $17 (added tax) for this item and you want to play in my face, as a customer who was giving YOU another chance, for what? Poor food quality, poor service, do not waste your time here. There are way better Italian spots in Toledo that aren't a commercial mess.

Went there Saturday with family and friends. What a great night!…read more Two of us had the lasagna and it was incredible. This isn't the usual lasagna. It's similar to what you know, but different! I bet it had 10 layers. The sauce was definitely made in-house. Not too sweet, not too bitter/sour. The one thing that's different with Calvino's is I couldn't detect or find any ricotta cheese, and I didn't miss it. It was a very generous portion, and it was perfectly cooked. No dry pasta or burned edges. I opted to add some Italian sausage which was the perfect addition. The other person who ordered this added sausage and ground beef and said that his was perfect. Either way, you can't go wrong! Another person at our table ordered the butternut squash ravioli. She was kind enough to let me try a piece and it was absolutely amazing! She ordered it with the olive oil and garlic sauce, which was the perfect pairing. This was as good or better than the butternut squash ravioli at Martini's in Columbus. The pasta had great texture (definitely fresh pasta) and the filling wasn't gluey in any way (this filling can have a tendency for textural issues). I'm definitely ordering it on my next visit! Someone ordered the chicken and pesto sandwich and raved about it. The last person at the table ordered the linguine with olive oil, garlic and mushrooms and again, it was perfection. All entrees were served with bread (ahhhh, those great little nuggets of fresh baked bread, drizzled in butter and sprinkled with cheese...) and a really nice, fresh salad. I would bet that the dressings are all homemade too! From past experience I can attest to the stromboli being outstanding (get the Godfather!)! The pizzas going by the table looked pretty amazing too, but I've not had their pizza. Appearances can be deceiving, but from the looks of the pies and quantity of people ordering them, they have to be pretty great too. Calvino's does not have a full bar, but they do have an extensive wine selection and some nice beers to choose from. If everyone at the table is ordering wine, go for the bottle as it will save you money. They have some really nice, inexpensive wines that pair very well with pasta - you won't break the bank on wine (but you could...)! All in all, it was a great night! The bill for the two of us came to $55.00 (that's including the tip)! The service was great, the food was outstanding - the best Italian meal I've had in Toledo, hands down.

The ambiance is now very contemporary with a nod to the Italian cuisine it serves. It's a very pleasant environment for dining. The complimentary bread and seasoned oil were delicious. My friend ordered a thin crust pepperoni pizza which looked amazing. I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken with the Alfredo sauce on the side... So glad I did, as the Alfredo sauce was like a very watery soup. Also, the entire entree' was lukewarm. Our server immediately took it back and returned with a much thicker and delicious Alfredo sauce and warmer entree'. Kudos to our server who re-maid the sauce himself! While I didn't mention anything about the noodles, they weren't very soft- not al dente', but a texture that was sort of rubbery as if pre-made- but were much better with new Alfredo sauce and warmed up chicken with the fettuccine. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and personable. No issues at all with the service; in fact, it was excellent. My friend took home the leftovers of pepperoni pizza, and it was a generous portion. As for my Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, I ate out the chicken, which was perfectly grilled and delicious. I didn't want to take home the remaining fettuccine or sauce. While the re-maid sauce was delicious, the fettuccine noodles were a texture not to my liking. My overall rating is 4 stars based on the above comments. In the past (a number of years back), I had enjoyed the Chicken Caprese entree and would likely order it again next time. I would return to this restaurant and recommend it with caution as to what to order. Overall, it was a nice experience on a chilly night in Michigan.

This is the same exact sandwich I've gotten every time I've ever been here which is why I really haven't come back because there's not a lot of selection for me. The other reason is they got rid of the croissants on the menu LOL. The service was fast and friendly and there was about a medium sized crowd inside despite the parking lot being full. They have kind of a dark semi romantic atmosphere I guess they're going for. The chicken sandwich was nice and tender. I'm not a fan of the shoe string fries because they remind me of Steak and Shake and at this price point I think they should have some good fries here. They actually had a few craft beers on tap but I thought the cocktail prices were a little extreme at 15 plus. My girl got the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and the potatoes were ice cold so they lose a star for that. Other than that I have no complaints except that the pricing for lunch. $20 for a chicken sandwich is a bit much to me.
