Our floors were completely uneven, and we knew it was going to be a complicated job that required someone with real know-how. We spoke with a number of possible floor folks on site before choosing someone, and Paul clearly stood out as the most experienced and knowledgeable (one person didn't even want to take our job because the floors were so unlevel). That confidence and expertise showed up in every part of the work. He noticed things that others missed, thought through the details carefully, and clearly approached the project like a true artisan - for example, he made it so that the new floor was completely flush with the existing tiling in all three of our bathrooms, something no one else said they could do. I had one of the worst experiences ever with Discount Floor. Yes, their prices are cheaper than…read moreother stores, but the quality is absolutely the worst you can find in Los Angeles. They sell engineered wood flooring without proper protective coating, which is why the price looks low -- but you end up paying much more later. As soon as a little water touched the floors, it penetrated straight into the wood and changed the color. We were shocked. We had just spent a lot of money on new flooring, and instead we ended up with damaged wood within days. Because of these issues, we couldn't even move into our home. We had to stay in an Airbnb while dealing with the problem. We spent over $4,000 on temporary housing because of the extremely poor-quality material they sold us. Discount Floor sells cheap, low-quality engineered wood with almost no protective coverage. We will never buy from them again, and I strongly do not recommend them to anyone. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the headache. Go somewhere else.

We had…read morea brief chat, he seemed busy and wanted pictures sent to him directly instead of actually coming by in person to do an actual inspection. I've had at least two others come by, one of them hasn't given me a quote, the other had followed up and I did receive a quote from them. I can't say the same for this guy, he just left me on read and never bothered to follow up. I'm not going to go out my way to pay someone and give them an opportunity because it's not my job to go after people and to follow up. Also if you're more "value orientated" like me, he has a $550 a day minimum so keep that in mind. It could be that my job didn't hit this so he couldn't of bothered, but I am just speculating. The process to find a reliable contractor is a quasi part time itself. All of them are situational and with that being said, it's a huge YMMV based off when you need or want them and if they will even bother to entertain you because they just don't care enough to follow up if its a bad time (Which you'll never know). There's a happy ending to this story though, one of the people did get back to me and I just need to figure out how to schedule him when we figure out how we're going to get things done. This is all the time and effort I will put into this.
