It's an alright theater. It's definitely dated and in any other city, would've been renovated already. The seats are pretty uncomfortable and old and it seems like the surround sound is sub-par in some of the theaters. Most of the staff are decent, to be fair it's just a part time job for high school kids so it's not like they're asked to do much in the way of customer service. There have been a few times where they've had glitches (like the movie's sound doesn't work or goes off, etc) and unfortunately they seem more annoyed that people would complain about it than showing any desire to make things right. This place gets the job done, but when I really want a great experience I just go down to Riverbank's theater. read more

Went to see a movie on the 10th of this month. There was a note about the indoor temp being 85 due to the fact that the cooler was malfunctioning. The young lady that was at the door, Angelique wrote down the direct number for the theatre so we could call for an update the next day. She was very helpful and definitely went above and beyond for us. Go to see a movie at the Regal cinemas in Sonora you will get the VIP treatment every time. read more

Every time we are here, no matter how many people are in the theater, the previews and movie is almost deafening. The "first look" is a reasonable volume. My ears ring after every movie. read more

Twice in the past couple of months, I was disappointed in the quality of the theater's popcorn. Each time, I ordered a large at a cost of $8.59, which also entitled me to a free refill. On both occasions I went to an evening mid-week viewing, where the popcorn served as my dinner. Upon returning to my seat, I started to eat the popcorn, which wasn't exactly hot and fresh as advertised, but I continued to eat it anyway until I got about halfway through and it became a bucket of salty crumbs. I ended up dumping the remnants in the trash, but thought it okay since I would just get the refill on the way out. Well, the refill, which again I only partially ate - on my hour long drive home - was as mediocre as the original. The same thing happened on my next visit, however, the refill came from a large bag of popcorn because the popcorn machine had been cleaned and closed for the evening. Before leaving, I expressed my dissatisfaction with Jeffrey at concessions, who was friendly and apologetic, but offered nothing else, nor did I ask for anything at the time. On my drive home, however, with the same substandard popcorn refill (but not as crumbly) I decided that at my next visit, I would raise my concern with a manager. So, this past Sunday matinee, I spoke with a manager, Rhionnan, to whom I politely told my story and even showed my receipt for the last popcorn purchase. I told her that my combined purchases were not a value and that for the price, the popcorn should be as advertised. I also asked if she could do something that would make me feel better about my poor experiences. Now, I did not ask for a refund or anything specific as I was looking to see how Rhionnan would handle my complaint. To my surprise, Rhionnan was disbelieving and seemingly unconcerned about my experience. In fact, she was quite dismissive and unapologetic of my claims. I'm not sure if Rhionnan was having a bad day or is jaded by repeated customer service complaints, but in my opinion she did not handle my situation in a positive or professional manner, and perhaps needs to reconsider her customer facing role. Needless to say, I was annoyed and did not go to the movies that day, but did tell Rhionnan that I would no longer purchase concessions but would post a Yelp review. She replied, "that's fine." How easy it would have been for Rhionnan to offer me a bag of popcorn if I went to the movie on Sunday, and to even apologize! If that occurred, I likely would have made an additional concessions purchase and this review would have been quite different. But instead, Rhionnan chose to exert her authority in a manner which is not conducive to good customer service, which is too bad. Although I'll still go to the movies, I'll be entering an establishment that literally and figuratively left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Rude patrons! Maybe it's the rural and lower income setting but that doesn't excuse bad manners. Had to listen to an older lady sitting behind us texting away on an ancient flip phone with beep beep beep as she had to hit each key two or three times to get each letter. When she then started yacking on an actual call I had to shout at her to take it outside. She glared at us like it was our fault she couldn't hear her call. Rude!!! I have seen a few movies over the past couple of years while working in Sonora and I have never had a bad experience. Sure, concessions are expensive and it is only 50 cents more for an extra gallon of soda, but that is just how theater chains work. The staff has been friendly, the auditoriums are clean, and the movie presentation has been fine. There has never been any sound or image issues for any of the films that I have seen. Sure, there is only one option if you want to see a movie in Sonora, but I have not had any complaints so far. read more

This theater has the rudest and most unhelpful theater I have ever been to. I do not recommend going there at all An example of their unhelpful and rude ways happened yesterday. I had gone to a movie and bought food about 1 week prior, but did not have our membership card with me. So, I saved the receipts until yesterday. When I bought our tickets I presented our card to the cashier and asked him to post the credits to my account (no waiting line behind me). He explained he could only update my account on the same day. Ok, so when I got inside I asked the manager on duty the same questions. He said he could update my account, but then started chastising me by telling me he would only do this once. After that I would be on my own to correct it. I replied to him that you have to be kidding (chastising me) Then he said I changed my mind and I won't correct it for you. Left me stranded with his rude behavior. Better to take my. Business elsewhere. Bay Area prices together with rude rude employees/managers. read more

I like this movie theater. It's family oriented and their ticket is cheaper than Bay Area. Sadly not so much selection, though. I mean, mass produced typical Hollywood type of movies come here, but not good movies produced by small companies. read more

Clean theater, clean bathrooms , and great parking. Sound system good and seats comfortable. For Sonora this is a great theater. I am glad that we have a theater of this caliber and not have to travel to Modesto or Stockton to watch a favorite movie. Not too crowded every time we go so I hope the owners can continue to keep the theater open. read more

This place was ridiculous. I just got out of the theatre and had to write a review my FIRST review in yelp because of how upset I am. A friend and I went to see the new insidious movie (rated R)and when we sat down KIDS followed behind us we went to the very top seats and they sat in front of us and already started acting out but I gave them a chance I told my friend I would give them 10 minutes into the movie and if they continued to act out I would say something. The whole 10 minutes I waited more KIDS came in they say to our left and to our right and the whole time they were on their phones taking pictures/ having the light in etc they also were very loud acting out and kept kicking the chairs in front of them (their friends). I finally told them "were at a movie theatre not at home be respectful of other people" they did calm down but an hour or so later they started doing the same thing and I tried to tell my self they are kids but this was a rated R movie I should not have to be dealing with children. I got up and went looking for the manager. I told him " I'm seeing insidious and there are kids clearly in the theatre i gave them a warning they are kicking the seats on which are moving mine and my friends chair cause the they are sitting 2 chairs from us and in their phones" I told him where we were located and he told me he would send someone. About 2-3 minutes later I saw a security guard and I watched him on and off but enough to see HE WAS WATCHING THE MOVIE THE WHOLE TIME!!! Not once did I see that he looked at these kids whom were still kicking and messing around there was about 10 minutes left to the movies and it continued through out and as the movie ended the kids walked by the guard and he didn't say nothing! So after we walked out of the theatre I see the same manager I talked to before and I told him "thanks for sending in the security guard but he was watching the movie the whole time while the KIDS acted out!" And I just turned and walked away. I can't believe this place when we got our tickets they had warning sign about rated R movies and if kids snuck in and caused a ruckus they would be removed! While the seats are sufficient, the movie selection sucks, unless you're 10-15 yr. old boy. The matinee prices are outrageous also. $8.25 compared to $6.75 in the Bay Area. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Oh, and the previews, commercials, etc. are never ending. Don't get here until 15 minutes after the shown time. read more

This is the worst stadium...never shows quality movies for people with intelligence. New releases are ALWAYS weeks later than elsewhere. Instead they'll show the same movies (usually the PG13 stupid movies) in multiple theaters rather than offer a decent selection. The popcorn made me sick, there was oil on the bottom of the popcorn bag which ruined my pants, and there is no phone number to call to speak to a live person so I can let them know about the problem in case they would like to correct it and not have negative reviews on Yelp! read more
