The front is a par 38 and the back is a par 32. Par 32, piece of cake, right? Wrong. The back is demanding and extremely narrow. You have to play smart, hit your shots, and leave your shots to green in the right place. The pro shop is rocked well enough and both Bob and Chris are excellent. The practice areas here are enough to get you ready for your round, or allow you to work on your game. The driving range is rough, but it works. There is an outside deli window that is open for most of the year that you can grab stuff at the turn at, and the bar has dogs and chips when the deli is closed. The restaurant has huge glass windows that let you lookout onto the course at dinner and the food has always been excellent. Everyone I have ever met here has been kind, personable, and easy-going. It's not a stuffy club. Come in the summer and watch kids cannon ball off the diving board. It's a great place to golf, a great place to just be, and it's definitely one of my happy places.

I visited recently as a complete beginner, and the experience was second to none. The highlight of the night was at the Pai Gow table. My friend generously put down a Benjamin just so I could learn the ropes and get a feel for the game. I was a bit nervous at first, but the dealers were extremely helpful, patient, and fantastic teachers. Thanks to their guidance, I walked away feeling completely comfortable and confident with the game. It must have been beginners luck, but I immediately won my friend's initial bet back and came up a bit. Beyond the stellar gaming education, the customer service across the entire resort was top-notch. The staff goes above and beyond, drinks are readily offered to customers to keep the good times rolling, and the facilities themselves were absolutely immaculate. You can tell they put care into their wines, and there was something for everyone in our group to like. The grounds are spacious and peaceful, with views, gardens, and plenty of spots to wander or sit and relax. It feels more like an experience than just a quick tasting stop. The woman helping us was a bit reserved, but still helpful as we made our selections. Overall, Ironstone is a lovely place to visit if you're in the area -- great wine, beautiful scenery, and a relaxing atmosphere that makes for a memorable outing.

This is a rather new festival to Murphys, so it has not yet reached it's full potential, but boy…read moredoes it have the potential!! This fun new festival is being spear-headed by one of the local wineries with many of the Main St. business' participating by way of setting up alters in their shops. (the book store had one to Shakespeare etc. etc.) Many people participate in the Catrina/Catrin costume contest held mid-day at the local theater (so cool to see them all walking around town all day!!) and in the evening they do a procession to a local cemetery to honor the dead. And there are usually a few different places to listen to live music, this year I've heard they'll be having a great mariachi band! It is always fun to walk around Murphys eating and drinking your way through the day, and this event just makes it that much more fun and interesting! So if you are planning on coming to Murphys around the beginning of November (it's held the first weekend usually, check their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DiaDeLosMurtosMurphysCalifornia) then come for this event, and maybe even join in the costume contest!

Nancy, the coordinator, met with us over the last year to make sure every detail was what we hoped it would be. The last few weeks required weekly emails / phone calls to polish everything up. Nancy was wonderful to work with, and her expertise was forever appreciated. She KNOWS her details! I cannot say enough for the beauty of the venue itself. We chose to have an outdoor reception, and used the covered patio for our bar and dance floor. The tables were set up on the lawn over looking the 1st and 10th hole. The waterfall on the pond was behind us. The food was fabulous, as always. The portions were extremely generous! Our family and friends kept telling us how delicious the food was, and how gorgeous the setting was too. I think we may have to celebrate our milestone anniversary here one year. Being treated like family is so endearing and more than we could have ever hoped for! Again and again, we heard from our guests, that this was the best wedding they had ever been to!
