I absolutely love that they've put up digital movie posters outside each auditorium; now you can confirm for certain which movie you're walking into. And the wood paneling design in the hallways and inside the theaters looks very nice. Of course, the recliner chairs, and additional per-person space, is the main attraction, and these did not disappoint. I'm giving four stars instead of five, and it's for my usual reason with multiplexes -- they need to return to the old days' policy of having an usher do a walk-through once or twice per screening; helps make sure the more annoying audience members aren't causing any obvious distraction.

As much as I love movies, I haven't been to a movie theater in over 10 years. Last movie I saw in a…read moretheater was "Black Mass" with Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger in South Orange with my oldest friend and a relative (who is a former San Quentin inmate and looked like he should have been up on the screen performing instead of in a seat, watching). Why the long gap? Partly because of the movies they make nowadays, which seem designed to appeal to children, childish teenagers still in love with comic books and anime, and the addle-brained. Other reasons? I dunno...maybe just because. I'm older now and watch old and new movies on my blu-ray from the comfort of my dilapidated couch. Have I been tempted to go back? Yeah (especially back to the bygone days when I'd see a movie in the Hudson Valley whacked out on Vicodin or Percocet. I had long since stopped drinking in situations where I had to drive, but I figured the opiates were medicinal and wouldn't impair me. I stopped after 1 trip where I became sick during a viewing of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." The pill hit me badly and instead of staring in mezmerized adoration at Kristinna Loken on the screen, I broke out in a cold sweat, was nauseous, and had to use every fiber of my being to keep from vomiting on the floor. The sick feeling eventually receded, and, in my stupidity, I figured if I popped another pill after the movie, I'd be ok to drive home. Instead, I was confused by the darkened, unlighted streets leading off from Rt. 9, and as I approached the Bear Mountain Bridge, a torrential downpour descended on me, making the drive even more perilous. I said aloud, "If there is a God or a Heaven, get me home in 1 piece, without killing myself or someone else, and I'll never do this again." I still don't know if there's a God or a Heaven, but I got home in 1 piece, and I never did it again. Anyway...back to the review...) I took off July 4 (last year, getting out of Hoboken where I work was a nightmare and I vowed never again). I hadn't seen my old narcissistic friend in a while, and since he was off on Saturdays, we got together. He suggested a movie. Given we were in the middle of a fierce heat wave, I figured an air-conditioned movie theater might be just the thing, and I wasn't all that interested in what we'd be seeing. In all honesty, I was "jones-ing" for movie theater popcorn, along with a box of cookie dough candy, and a large Coke. My friend mentioned Reading Theater in Manville, and I was game. We had once talked about going there when they were showing "The Exorcist" (a favorite for both of us), but it was only for 1 night, and we couldn't make it. I drove. Even though I'm not all that familiar with Manville, the drive was not too far from where I live. We pulled into a large parking lot and entered the theater hastily to escape the soul-shredding heat. Inside, the theater was enormous. My friend had ordered tickets on-line, a procedure I'm not familiar with, but I was told you can pay for your tickets the old-fashioned way if so inclined. I ended up ordering a large vat of popcorn with butter (I remember being told that the next vat was free, but I responded that if I return for another vat, call 911). Cookie dough candy. A large Coke. I was in pig heaven. Prices for everything seemed fair. There are 6 theaters, if I remember right. Someone had recommended the movie we were to see to my friend, and I believe it was in Theater 6. A large room, with many empty seats. We went to seats that weren't assigned to us (at my friend's suggestion) only to be displaced by the people who had actually reserved them (we were all polite to each other, but...seriously...in a huge empty theater, you HAD to have those particular seats!?! Anyway...) The movie was "Obsession" which I took to be a "cute" Rom-Com film for whatever they're calling young people these days, and I made an exit for the bathroom, which was clean and spacious. When I got back, the Rom-Com had transformed into a horror movie. (My verdict on the film? Ambivalence. The plot seemed a steal from the old E.C. comics or an episode of Twilight Zone, but it was pretty effective, and special kudos to Inde Navarrette for making a very difficult, implausible part plausible and frightening. Anyway...) There was a built-in tray by each seat for foodstuffs, which I appreciated. Previews for movies I have no interest in seeing. Then the movie itself. Any downsides? I don't know if it was just for this particular movie, but anytime there was a "got-cha!" moment designed to startle or frighten the viewer, the sound system let loose what I can only describe as a sudden, booming explosion that left my nerves frayed, but probably not for the reason the film-makers intended. Overall? I enjoyed myself. I'd like to see another movie here in the not-too-distant future. Recommended. I hope in future they show more old movies like "The Exorcist," or maybe even "High Sierra."

Visited most recently to see Jamie Lissow, who was fantastic. They had a sold-out, or nearly sold-out, crowd for that one. And staff was helpful and friendly, and everything moved smoothly and without issue. I've been here before for some of their specialty movie screenings, like when they got "Subspecies V" or Glenn Danzig's weird western-horror film (titles that no one else in the surrounding area played). It's an old palace theater, beautiful to look at, but updated with current screen-and-sound systems. Highly recommended.

Becky's Drive-In Theatre is a historic drive-in movie theater that opened in Walnutport,…read morePennsylvania in 1946. It was founded by William D. Beck (known to all as "Becky") and his wife Alice. Possessing a love for the cinema at a young age, Becky first began showing movies in his parents' living room using a hung bed-sheet as a movie screen. By the late 1930s, he began working as a projectionist and screened movies at various sites throughout Pennsylvania. By 1946, he opened the drive-in theater at its present site (originally called "Route 45 Drive-In"). In the following decades, Becky would continue to upgrade the grounds and added a refreshment stand, a playground for children, free pony rides, live music on certain nights, and enough space to accommodate 440 cars. By the early 1970s, the business was renamed "Becky's". Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, at a time when drive-in theaters were in serious decline, Becky's began screening adult films in order to keep the business going. By the late 1980s, Becky's returned to screening family-oriented films. Becky passed away in 1987 and Alice followed him in 2007. Today the business is owned and run by the couples' children and grandchildren. It is open seasonally from April to October. On a recent trip to visit our cousins in Pennsylvania, they took us to Becky's, which they described as "the BEST drive-in theater in the area". On the evening that we visited, we had a choice to see either "The Odyssey" or a Double Feature of "Moana" and "Minions & Monsters". We opted for the more family-friendly double feature. This was the first drive-in movie experience for my two sons, who both had a blast playing at the playground before the movie started. Becky also offers portable radio rentals, which we decided to get so we didn't drain our car batteries. Before the movie started, we hit up the refreshment stand and ordered some "Pretzel Bites", "Chicken Fingers", "French Fries", a "Hot Dog", and a "Moana Burger" (bacon, pineapple, teriyaki sauce): a delicious menu special released just for the run of "Moana". We all ended up really enjoying the new live-action version of the film. Although we had planned to stay for "Minions & Monsters", we ended up leaving after the first film because we were all exhausted. It's nice to know that historic drive-ins like Becky's still exist. We highly recommend a visit!

It's about an hour outside the city and definitely in the cut, but it felt like its own little oasis. Since the theater dates back to the 1930s, I do think a little remodeling would go a long way, but the vintage look definitely adds to the nostalgic charm. The staff was nice, everything ran smoothly, and the snack bar had plenty of veggie options. The veggie hot dogs were on point. 10/10--I had three. So there is lots of seating and opportunities to get some lovely, popcorn and drinks. The venue was very tidy . LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ACME Screening Room in Lambertville NJ…read more We are 2-year dual members thus far. In the three years since living in Bucks County and first finding the ACME, they have fundraised to upgrade the chairs, the screen, and digital projection equipment. They have also like overnight somehow been able to acquire viewing of the most current indie and foreign films. Top films at that. We just saw Stan and Ollie, Shoplifters, Cold War, and many other excellent films. Just last night, 3/2/19, we saw a South Beach Miami documentary of two photographers that captured the life and evolution of South Beach. Well done and informative. Just in the past 4 months, we've seen more films at the ACME then at the Montgomery Theater in Skillman and we no longer drive out to the Ambler, Hiway or Colony theaters. I've also participated as a presenter at two 20x20 Pecha Kutcha events and recently volunteered to photograph presenters of the Feb 8th event. Feels good to be apart of the community. Support the ACME so that they can continue to bring us such great film and other experiences.
