I absolutely love this place. I saw a double feature of The Thing and The Shining. The price of admission was reasonable and the snack bar even had vegan options!

With very few drive-in theaters left, this one in a gem. $10 for adults and $7 for kids Dow a double feature. Five of us went to see Black Panther and The Empire Strikes Back. We left after the first feature because it was getting late but it was still a bargain. The fresh popped popcorn was delicious and I think they use real butter. Unfortunately the hamburger upset my daughters stomach but that was the only negative. The concession staff was friendly and helpful. I even spoke with the owner who had a few things in common with me. Great outdoor family fun.

Vehicle in front of us with the hatch down

The vehicle in front of us had their hatchback up during the move that was above their roofline. Per their rules, "D. Hatchbacks that extend above the roof line of the vehicle may need to be lowered to not exceed the height of the vehicle." We told the field personnel about the concern 3 times and finally a manager, Paul, comes out to talk to my Fiance and I. He comes up with this attitude and proceeds to tell us to sit in pack in our jeep (2 children seats and 3 adults) instead of sitting outside. About 75% of everyone was watching outside. He said the hatchback is level with the roof and said he can't do anything. He said if we're happy to get our money back. I told him I didn't like his tone from the get go and he walked away. We will not be back. Becky's Drive In is far better anyways. The picture shows when the hatchback was down and when it was up during the movie.

The new team at Shankweilers is starting off strong. Same great atmosphere, awesome buttered popcorn and concessions, and a solid showing of the new Black Panther movie. Excited to have this local institution staying as a drive in and will keep coming back!

Our favorite drive-in theater with a super large screen that's nice and visible from any parking spot you get. Great priced concessions, super reasonable and fair. They also allow outside food and drink but I'm always sure to support them and their concession stand even if I grab pizza or something from next door, Always gotta get my popcorn and soda! Also they use real butter too so it's even better. Make sure you get there before 8pm or you risk arriving at a sellout. They sold out meer minutes after our 8:05 arrival. They do not sell tickets online, only at the gate.

This is my second PA drive in theater experience. There is usually another location that I go to so…read moreI cannot help but to compare. At first I was not really impressed ... minus the staff who was my actual first impression and they were very nice and cool. I was surprised we got there a few minutes before gates opened and the whole road was filled with a line to get in. They have one gate and let two cars enter. We had to buy tickets ahead of time and it was per person - not sure if this is common or just for this theater or just for special events. We went for the Godzilla Kong two day event. There is only one large theater and they gave us like no directions on where to park or what to do or anything. We got a spot pretty up close and it was not easy to see where to leave from - they definitely need more markers. I think they assume many people here are regulars but that was not the case and direction by mouth or way of sign would have been helpful. We felt so bad leaving and were not sure if we went out the "theater" correctly. They have a very small like merch stand and a very old snack stand that does have bathrooms- I got nervous seeing the port-a-potties. The bathrooms are very tiny and the stalls are even tinier so if you're claustrophobic (or a more plus sized person) it might not be super comfortable. They did have a decent amount of snacks and I like that they also sold vhs and vinyl inside. There were a bunch of cool displays for this event which I also enjoyed. I do not like that they didn't have radios to rent. Not really trusting using my car radio I did have to purchase a radio to be able to pair. They basically have an mc/dj who made a curated playlist and talked about the movies before hand. It didn't get dark until 9:15 - we only stayed for one movie because of how late it was and when we left we didn't realize how crowded it was. There definitely were some pros and cons to this theater- we'll probably be back mostly for convenience because it was a straight shot up 476 which made getting here really easy. It definitely is a bit more ... noticeably old and I don't know if they play new movies or not. But overall it was enjoyable. Next time we might stay close by when they have a triple feature like this.

It was a clear night with a lot of cars, music, special events, costumes, and just a fun vibe throughout. The on-site radio station runs programming and music up to dusk and the start of the night. We listened from a warm SUV close to the screen and even though everyone was in their own little clusters, we all laughed and cheered loud enough to carry across the open field. The people running this show do it out of love for film, the drive-in experience, and the people who come to see these films. The movies are scheduled so it brings together fans of horror, fantasy, schlock, shock, and classic Gen-X flicks. Check out their podcast which can be linked on their website. In addition to a great concession stand, they've got cool swag and merch. The portable toilet experience is hit or miss, but that's a minor bit of 'roughing it' in exchange for the experience. When we were there, a concert was playing up the road and sometimes competed with the sound of the movies, but I didn't mind that so much as some entitled whine-factories. It's just like it felt back toward the end of the golden era when I was growing up in the 70s and early 80s. Movies on a big white screen outside among a thousand close strangers. Definitely worth the drive if you're between New York and DC.

The man was ignorant and stated ," there is no reason for a refund ,the movie is playing ,we play rain or shine " - Well sir , I have worked in customer service for 14 years and I'll tell you , I wouldn't let you run my business . How hard was it to give the refund so we could return to enjoy the movie on a night that wasn't a monsoon ? The concessions are vital to a theater's resources and having many options is great. My only concerns have never been addressed by owners or management. The bathrooms in the lower section are tiny, dark and smelly, even at opening hour. The wait lines are long so you miss a lot mid-movie. The upper section has no bathrooms, but rather porta-potties, which aren't cleaned daily and are very dark at night. Another concern is projector brightness. Screen 1 has the brightest and largest screen and even dark themed movies are quite visible even in the rain. It helps that the projector is housed across the snack bar and very close to the screen. Screens 2 and 3 are projected from much farther away and into smaller screens. It seems that the projectors must be upgraded to liquid cooled laser projectors, whose brightness and clarity isn't affected with a proper lens. Instead in a dark themed movie, all one sees is only what is bright and so you're left guessing what's going on in the screen. This totally ruins the experience of going to the movies. There aren't many outdoor movie screens left and having the opportunity to enjoy one is an amazing experience. I truly hope and pray management addresses these issues, so that this establishment can continue to be enjoyed by generations upon generations!
