Great place, good movies and good snack bar food. I go to Haars multiple times a year and enjoy it every time.

Fabulous venue for family fun, or for a cheap retro date night. Always reminds me of Grease & the song Sandy, where John Travolta gets fresh, gets slapped, & gets dumped. Ahhh, good times. Where else can you get a double feature for $8? Even if you only stay for the first movie, it's better priced than a "regular" movie theater, especially if you eat anything! Yes, they technically prohibit outside food but they have very reasonable rates for big portions at the concession stand. Bring camping chairs to sit in front of your car. Show up early & bring a frisbee or a ball to toss around. Remember to bring BLANKETS -- it's always colder than the air temp registers when you're just sitting still. If you forget your own, portable radios are available to rent at concessions with a deposit ($5+ either a driver's license or $15 as collateral). Or just use your car radio -- we've kept the car on auxilary and never had a problem with the battery running down, although we do turn the car on at intermission just in case. Caveats: 1) CASH only for admission & concessions, so stop at the ATM before you come. If you leave, you must pay again for readmission. 2) There are specific lanes for cars only and vans & trucks, so plan accordingly if you plan to meet others there, or congregate in front of one person's vehicle. Drive-In theatres are an American classic part of history. Nostaligic yet very American! I actually have bragging rights to say I've seen two movies here: "Freaky Friday" and "Seabiscuit." The food is dirt cheap to fit everyone's budget although the quality is awful as there is really no taste in their hot dogs or burgers even with condiments. Personally, I'd recommend seeing movies here and dine elsewhere. Haar's Drive-In is now updated to a new sound system dial to 101.1 FM to listen to the movie. They allow vans, trucks and cars to enjoy movies which is good for the truck driver who is constantly on the ride as a profession. Tickets are very reasonable for ages 12 and older $7.00 and children ages 3 to 11 it's $2.00. Cash only as they do not accept credit cards of any form. Unfortunately they are seasonal to the spring and summer months operation only and closed for the autumn and winter months. Personally, I don't believe children would enjoy old fashioned drive-in theatres as they are too young to appreciate this American classic as drive-In theatres do not have the same theatre sound system. I hope this theatre is here for another century as it's very sad that all the drive-in theatres are eliminated. read more

Dropped off a 7 piece girl's bedroom suite, approx 50 years old, which was solid wood... headboard and matching footboard, small dresser, large dresser, very large corner desk with matching hutch that could fit on desk or long dresser and a matching tall mirror for over the dresser or desk. This was heavy, solid wood. In very good condition considering the age of the set. Completely usable as is, no repairs needed whatsoever. Also dropped off a solid wood antique jelly cupboard, stained, very good condition, it had been refinished. Also dropped off an antique dresser with very heavy solid marble top and matching mirror which attached to back of dresser. Also a very heavy, solid large mirror for above a sofa or bare wall in a living room. Asked the man who helped us unload everything what their commission is. He replied, "30%, it'll be sold on Monday." I texted the person that Friday after the sale and asked if it had been sold. I wondered bc Haar's posts photos of items for each Mondays sale on their website and on auctionzip.com and NONE of my items were pictured on either site. She replied yes, everything sold on Monday and my check would be mailed that day or the next. Got my check....THIS IS A JOKE. An entire 7 piece solid wood bedroom suite in very good condition for $30? A jelly cupboard for $10? The antique dresser with matching mirror and solid marble top for $10? And the heavy, solid wall mirror for $1.00? To top it off, they took 50% commission. so I got 50 cents for the wall mirror, $5 each for the marble top dresser and jelly cupboard and $15 for a 7 piece solid wood bedroom suite. I texted her and asked. "If over $100, we take 30% if under $100, we take 50%. Really??? That was NEVER told to us when we dropped all this furniture off. I also told her I have to wonder why not one single item was pictured in their photos on either website for their Monday auction. WAS my furniture sold or was it put aside so someone can sell it on the side and make a bundle of money for themselves. Funny how she didn't reply after I told her we were NEVER told they'd take 50% if under $100 and when I mentioned not one single item being listed or photographed for that Monday's sale.. None of this was junk. Not one single piece needed repaired or refinished or painted. My recommendation for anyone is to take flat out junk to them or else be prepared to be lied to and ripped off. read more

Drive-In theaters are a disappearing part of America's iconic landscape, and I'm thrilled that Haar's of Dillsburg has survived the clutches of greedy land developers. For $8 for adults 12+ and $2 for 12 and below, you get a double feature of first-run movies. Weekend movies are paired by genre; kids movie weekends are our norm, and last night it was "Cars 3" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men" as the twin features. Haar's was packed solid when we arrived at 8:45, so we had to park in the grass behind the back row, which gave us a good viewing angle and grass to sit in- although it was about as far away as I'd like to be. Staff on golf carts patrol behavior and etiquette (headlights off, please!) and assist with finding spaces. Tips for a successful night: 1. Cash only. 2. Arrive early; trucks to the back, cars to the front. Not too close, unless you are married to a chiropractor. 3. Byo snacks, although I don't mind buying from the concessions, as that is where the profit margin happens for theaters, and I'm all for keeping Haar's open for another day. 4. Bring lawn chairs, bean bags, blankets, and sweatshirts-even in summer. 5. Bring a battery powered radio...save that car battery for the ride home at 1:15 am. 6. Be a good neighbor while the movie is showing! Haar's is just a fun night out, and you need to live this part of American history. You can't beat the prices of admission, and sitting under the stars on a June night with family and friends can't be beat! read more

Went to the Metallica drive though concert with the vip pass. Overall we had a blast. Needed to have better social distancing between cars. I did not like that cars that where not vip got to park in the vip area before the show started because they oversold and had to put the late arrivers somewhere. Should have sold band mech as well missed opportunity to make some more cash. Overall was fun to do something "normal" durning the pandemic! read more

This place is a blast, it's a throwback to a bygone era that has been in business for over 60 years. Moderately priced concessions & usually a nice set of features. Bring a radio so you do not have to run your car battery. The first movie usually starts at 8:30 / 8:45PM, followed by a brief intermission, then the second movie plays. We have a minivan and usually park parallel to the concession stand & pop our hatch. We bring an air mattress & blankets & chairs to enjoy the show. Dillsburg: check yo self before you wrek yo self. HAARS. World's worst website, and a generally great experience. Drive-In, watch movies (you get two for puquitto deneiro) and at intermission you get to wait in the most chaotic line short of Mumbai's train station ticket booths, to access some of the best and cheapest concession stand food ever. 1950's prices..? not quite. Perhaps 1985's prices. The drawbacks? Upcoming movies don't get posted on the website in advance. Random pattern of movie selections. One week could have a movie you want to see paired with one you don't want to see... the following week could have that same movie you wanted to see plus another you want to see.. OR... the next week could be two movies you don't want to see. Call it Drive-In Roulette. Also: people who don't turn off their headlights and/or daytime running lights. Random experience: had a guy come in late to the first movie, (lights on) park next to me, then ask where the speakers were... (it's modern times old dude, we use a radio station now, 91.1). This place is a steal. We got to see 2 new movies for 18 bucks (2 adults and a child). Sure, people are annoying and sure, people leave lights on but that's not Haars fault. They come along and tell you to lower your hatch, which 95% of people do. The issue is after the first movie, a lot of people leave. Haars doesn't come back around (which honestly they shouldn't have to), so people put their hatches up. Unfortunately it's not worth getting in an argument over. So we sat in the car and watched what we could of the second movie. They have a snack bar with really good fries (I like to add cheese). I've never had any other food here. Also, be prepared to use a porta potty in the dark. It's an adventure that's for certain. The lines to the actual bathroom are super long and move super slow. So porta pottys to the rescue. We come at least twice a year, as it's usually a good experience here. Just be observational of who you park next to and all should be fine. Good experience all around. read more

Haar's is still a great drive in and just updated their screen to a metal screen which I cannot wait to see! There are only a few things that bother me now but they do not affect my rating. I still see this as a 5 star place!! Pros- Great snacks in the snack bar. Popcorn is buttery and better than any I've had in a movie theater. French fries are home made and with the cheese sauce are amazing. They also have big pickles, which we love. -The movies are always new, and the staff is very friendly. -Movies are $8 for adults and $2 for kids and my son and I always pile up the car with blankets and pillows and snuggle in for a great night Cons- TAKE JUMPER CABLES because if your car battery dies they can no longer give you a jump after the movie. One stupid person ruined it for everyone, as usual. -Arrive early! They are scheduled to open at 6:30 but if there is a line of cars in the road they have to open early. We went last week at 7 and the place was already full! -They give you a tie down for your trunk but NO LONGER ENFORCE this so if there is a tailgate in front of you lifted too high and they won't lower it, you're screwed. -Smokers do not have designated areas and will smoke where they want. If smoke bothers you at all you'd have to be more choosey with where you park. read more

I love this place because you can't beat two flicks for $7. They still play the old commercials with the dancing popcorn bucket and that little drive-in jingle. Through the summer they roll the first film about 8:45, if it's a new release (like when I went to see the Dark Knight) I suggest getting there around 7:30/8pm if not earlier but rolling in at 8:15 we still got a good spot. What I find irresistible about this place is the old drive-in feel that they preserve. You have your metal radios that clip to your car window, the grill style food stand with amazing fries serves screaming hot, popcorn, candy, sodas, ice cream and other treats all for a reasonable price. The one thing I will also add is that the whole place does have a friendly feel, our drive-in neighbor offered to move his car over so we could get a better view and they have a small playground before the flicks for kids to play on. The only con I can give you is that the bathroom is small and "dated" as well but it is an outdoor drive-in so I excuse it. My other random tidbit is that don't go crazy with the ketchup when you add them to the small cardboard carrier for your fries, too much and it will find its way through the bottom, my cars interior still harbors the red stain of 2008. read more

I was never to a movie drive in before. I like the fact that families would play football and kids were playing sports there prior to the movie. It's a great family atmosphere. The reason I love this place is because I believe it to be a time capsule from the late 1950's- mid 1960's. The snack bar equipment is in beautiful condition and looks like the kind of snack bar where you would get a coke in a glass bottle for a nickel. Some of the restaurant equipment has been made more modern in the kitchen, however it has the atmosphere of a place " where grandpa went he was a teenager". The snack bar literally looks like something's you would see in a movie. The men's restroom is a simple 1950's style room with stalls and a urinal trough. While this is Not modern and some people on here complain, I would like to remind you that when you remodel something that is supposed to be stuck in time, you have taken away much of the drive in experience. People come early, the gate opens at 6:30. Get there around this time because you want a decent parking spot. As far as not being able to bring your own food: get over it people! First off, $4.00 a movie ($8.00 total) is a third or half of a matinee movie. Then till you take the family out and spend $60 at a regular movie theatre just on popcorn drinks and candy you've bought the DVD 3 times already just to see one movie and they don't allow you to bring your own food either. . This place at least shows you 2 movies in comparison to a modern day theatre. I recommend this place to anyone. read more

Its an OK Drive In if it weren't for the annoying other customers. I had one who had their parking lights on for most of the short. I had another talked through the first feature and another that said my hatch was too high even though I parked on the large vehicle area and no one in the moving theater golf cart said a word about it being too high. Did I mention the road right beside the lot with no vegetation between? They don't have enough bathrooms for the load, so port a potties are outside. Those are hard to use in the dark. The lot is fairly flat which makes it difficult to see. If you are going to a drive in, go to the Cumberland drive in by Newville. read more

I've been going to see Drive-In movies at Haar's since I was a little kid. And now, it's even better! I've already gone twice this summer and seen "Now You See Me," "The Croods," and "Epic." We pack the car with lawn chairs, pillows, and blankets. We don't even bring snacks because the snack bar has such a wide variety! Also, I can't forget the great prices. $7 per person for two movies is a steal, especially when the movies are all brand new and even sometimes appear on opening weekend. With the recent demise of the old screen and recent assembly of the new one, my wife and I decided to check it out. To be honest I miss the old man on the golf cart with iron clad marbles. He had no problems telling people to move their cars if they were parked in the wrong spot or if they were being a disruption. The lady doing it now just proved to be an interruption. Every couple of minutes the carts headlights would hit my mirrors and give me a nice distraction from the film. There is ample bathroom space, if you are ok with porto-johns. The grub is cheap. Tickets are $8 per person. Wish they would let me bring my dog....he is better behaved than most of the people we saw there. read more

While I lived in Pennsylvania as a child and teenager, Haar's was a family tradition. All my brothers and sisters would pile into my mom's minivan and my dad's SUV and try to get there as soon as they began admitting cars so that we could get a good spot. We would bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a bunch of balls and frisbees and the like so we could play before the movies began. I remember always looking forward to getting snacks/dinner at the amazing concessions counter as well. Some of my most treasured memories happened at Haar's and the owners are the nicest people that you could hope to meet. I've been to a bunch of other drive-ins since leaving Pennsylvania, but none of them ever came close to the magic of Haar's. You can bet your bottom dollar that I will make the trek from Illinois to share this place with my children once I have kids. read more

They recently banned outside food. I understand their need to make money, but other drive-in theaters (most notably the Bengies down in MD) sell food permits that allow you to bring your own food. I explained this on the Haar's FB page, and they responded by removing my post and blocking me from posting. Not a very good business practice. In my post, I mentioned that the lines were too long at the snack bar before they banned outside food. I cannot imagine how bad they will be now. Even though we purchased the outdoor food permits from the Bengies, we still patronized their snack bar. We've been to Haar's many times over the years and will not be returning. You will have a better experience at the Bengies. Higher prices, but worth it. read more

Great snacks at incredibly low prices (You can get a burger for less than $3!) Go early for a great spot, hit up the snack bar and restrooms just before the first movie ends for no lines. Bring lawn chairs, and games to play while you wait for the sun to set. Blankets and pillows work great in the back of your van (just make sure you bring rope to keep your liftgate level with the roofline). Took the grand kids to Haar's. Had to convince the older ones that you could watch a movie without leaving your car. Once the movie started they were amazed. They want to know what's playing next week. There is a large selection of food and snacks at the snack bar. Food prices are decent and you can't beat the price of admission. This drive-in is better than the other drive-in that is with-in driving distance ( I don't know if the other one is open due to the digital up-grade ). The only negatives are: I don't care what the rules say, they still allow people to open their lift gates, blocking the view of the cars behind them. Bathrooms are really bad. No privacy. No stalls. Not even dividers at urine trough. Come on people, you need to fix this!!! Overall, the grand kids and my wife & I enjoyed the experience of going to the drive-in. read more

I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Haar , he's a wonderful man who just wants to hold on to a family owned business that takes pride in creating enjoyment for people of all ages. He makes very little income from the drive in, most of the money brought in is made from the concession stand, everything made on the movies gets eaten up by staffing and upkeep. So I buy as much as I can at the drive in, and come back year after year. I recall coming here as a child, and as being one of the last remaining drive ins, want to do all I can to offer my children the same memories of playing on the playground at dusk, chasing other kids around the lot, and wrapping up in our vehicle with blankets and pillows while enjoying the show! read more

I love this place! French fries rock, so do the chocolate malts! My parents went on dates here, I went as a child with my family, and now as an adult our family still meets up along with friends to enjoy this amazing piece of history! I even remember when there was a roller skating rink attached to the auction I use to go there as a tween! Yes you can take food in, but consider buying something there, it is such a steal @ 7$ for two movies. This is really disappointing considering that some people have larger families which make it difficult to afford tickets for admission and then to purchase food there also. I think this was really a bad decision on there part. Drive In theaters are suppose to be the more affordable option for people. This just ruined it for a lot of people. What a wonderful place to see a movie on a summer night. The Drive-In is operated by the same family that originally opened it and the service is friendly and affordable. They encourage no outside food, but it is not prohibited. The snack bar is very affordable, so it's not necessary to bring your own food if you're worried about over priced concession stands. Besides, supporting the drive-in concession stand is the key to keeping this place operating each summer. Two summers ago it looked as though Haars would be closing the Drive-In, but luckily the owners decided to keep it open. Who knows how much longer it will be around.
