Have you ever had that friend or that one person you know very well who tells you to see a movie! YOU HAVE to see this film it's one of the best films and it is their favorite. Well, that's what I did. I went to Midtown cinema to see Sinners. It was a rainy, gloomy day, so it was perfect to go to the movie theater. I worked for myself, so I was able to go to a matinee at roughly about 1 PM. It was a very nice experience. Since I since I had the theater to my entire self I purchased a popcorn and a soda and of course the movie ticket! Well I was surprised to only find out that my bill came out to be $32 for a movie midday however I continued to watch the movie and this movie was okay! But that part that threw me off were the vampires. I definitely wasn't expecting that, but that was a great little pot plot twist at the end. I was not too fond of it, but the cinema was very nice. The bathrooms were very clean and the staff made up for it. I actually got a chance to talk to one of the staff members and we talked about movies and I told them how I didn't understand why it was vampires and then also Hoodoo which I came to find out. Is a different type of magic than Voodoo. I love that the film was fictional and based on a folklore, talking to someone at the movie theater, who actually studied film themselves was an amazing experience. I enjoy the conversation with the staff more than the movie. read more

It is sort of an old school movie theater with a modern twist. That is they have a lounge area before you go in. The theater itself does not have the sound system like the newer ones, but it was good enough. You could see heads on screen when people walked in or out of the theater, which was cool; have not had that experience since my younger days. Everyone was polite and courteous of other guests. Today was my first visit to Midtown Cinema since their renovation and the pandemic. WOW! This small spot is a jewel. They operate three fairly small auditoriums which have been upgraded with digital projectors, modern seating, and better insulation to reduce sound "bleedover" between theaters. That's rarely a problem since Midtown specializes in independent films and documentaries instead of the normal explosive blockbusters. This is movie-going for grown-ups and includes a Zero Day Brewing "outpost" if you care to enjoy a beer with your movie. The staff here is great and prices are reasonable--possibly cheaper than the big chains. read more

On Saturday October 14th 11:30am showing of Joan Baez ~ I Am A Noise at Midtown Cinema with 2 friends. Midtown staff are top notch. In tune with the community & their clients/customers. I had emailed a few weeks ago expressing interest in the Baez documentary & to inquire if they would be offering this. I received timely response. Easy on line ticket purchase. When you walk into Midtown there is always a welcome "hello" & you feel like a neighbor. Clean, with great snacks & beverages. Reasonable pricing. The warm cider with cinnamon on a rainy Saturday AM , perfect. There is a parking lot. Not huge lot but nice to have possible parking option. Theater seats comfortable. Temperature in theater was also comfortable. Clean restrooms. I have had several very nice experiences here. In fact, I plan to do a membership. Support our local independent theater. read more

It's a great place to grab a beer and watch and watch the latest indie film. However, I'm SEVERELY disappointed with the staff of the cinema and their sad excuse for "customer service". Just an ill, sulking vibe from EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMBER. Sadly disappointed and discouraging. An essence of go-on-watch-your-movie-and-leave-us-alone. Midtown has failed in it's mission to present independent, art house films. This week alone, every movie, save one, can be seen at 4 mega movie theatres within 10 miles of my home in Camp Hill. I read reviews of newly released films in the USA, and Midtown totally ignores them. Such a disappointment. The Majestic Theater in Gettysburg does a much better job at showing innovative, independent films than does Midtown. The new Midtown theater looks great, has a bar, outdoor patio, better seats, better concessions, but it shows the same old Hollywood factory made movies that I can see in any chain-movie theater: theaters with better sight lines, and more space to spread out. Great cinema for a cult classic like Rocky Horror Picture Show! I had a blast with 3 ladies; all 4 of us dressed for the occasion. Hot and cold non-alcoholic beverage choices were abundant! I loved the popcorn--fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The staff were super-friendly and dressed Rocky Horror Picture Show style! They played to characters and in ited us to enter a costume contest before showtime. Props in brown bags encouraged audience participation. Of course, we got into that! One-way, narrow streets present challenges. Give yourself time to park. The Cinema is clean, organized, and well-run. Tickets are acceptable for the indie cinema it is, unique to theaters in the area. We'll return! read more

This is a wonderful little theater with big fun. The is friendly. The theater is clean and modern from the seats to the screens and the sound system. Owners obviously gave the entire place a makeover. I love that you can drink beer and have custom hotdogs at the bar and you can have coffee and teas and hand dipped ice cream, in addition to popcorn and candy. I bought a membership for discounted tickets and food. I need to check out some of the special events here. I highly recommend this place. read more

Last night was my first visit and I was in love. This theatre has a total DIY feel to it - I'm guessing it was a laundromat or grocery store store before evolving into what it is today. The Midtown saved me from a trek to Philadelphia to see an indie film that was playing at the Ritz. Its fantastic to see such good films playing in Harrisblurgh - I only wished every seat was full. I vowed to come here on a regular basis as I am now in love with the Midtown. read more

Cute little movie theater showing independent films. It only has 3 screens so obviously you selection isn't huge but the line up was good when we visited. My quibble was that the entrance to theater 1 is right next to the screen so when someone comes in/out during the movie you get light coming in, and you could also hear people laughing/some audio from the movie playing in the next theater. These were not deal breakers by any stretch and we still thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The only legit complaint was that the chairs were not very comfortable. Parking is also limited so you may have to park on the street, no biggie. Theater was very nicely decorated and it had a lounging area where they also sold some things. I would def come back! read more

First time there....and was pleasantly surprised. My group went there to see "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" for or the holidays. Even though I have seen it before many times someone in our group hatton and it was all worthwhile to see it again. Loved that you can take coffee or alcoholic beverages in the theater. People cheered and sang at the end of the movie! There are games to play if you have a wait and a full concession stand. read more

My first time there, and I was pretty happy. I got there for the first show (12:15 - they opened at 12), and it wasn't too crowded. When the movie was over there were a lot more people in the lobby for the next show, so, not sure how you feel about that. You might want to get there early to avoid crowds, although I wouldn't really know I guess, just how it worked out for me on a Saturday afternoon. ANYWAY, I was concerned about caffeine when I got there only to discover they sell coffee. And Italian soda. And cookies and popcorn. So if you're in a rush to make it there before the movie starts, and don't get a bite to eat first, you can rest assured - they serve munchies. Oh, and they have a parking lot. Also nice. Except that seemed to fill up quickly later in the afternoon. I don't really have any complaints about this place. It is what it is. They show cool movies at a fair price. And I hope people continue to support such establishments. read more

Excellent place to see a movie. It's a nice space with good viewing and sound. The lobby snack area is 100 times better than any big cinema lobby. I come in when I'm in the area to buy snacks even when I'm not seeing a film. There's also some vinyl for sale in the front lobby area and a nice place to relax. The theatre has a great selection of films including new indie flicks and classics. It's an overall great place. The prices are great too!! read more

Midtown Cinema is usually the only place in Central PA to see smaller films that the big chains aren't interested in running and the only (current) retail location for Urban Churn Ice Cream. They've saved me many drives to Philly or Baltimore for the more indie films I want to see. Joining as a member is well worth it if they have movies you want to see semi-regularly. Closed on Tuesdays. My one complaint is that I somehow seem to be on the early bird schedule and the elderly folks there don't seem to have any compunction about talking, full voice, throughout movies. Hardly the theater's fault, but annoying nonetheless. read more

The midtown is a breath of fresh air in a movie world dominated by 30 screen mega-plexes slapped on the end of shopping malls. I haven't been to theatre of that size for some time, but I seem to remember feeling like a herd of cattle when the movie let out, winding through a maze of hallways with no windows amidst screaming kids and huge crowds. The midtown is definitely a small theatre (they only have the capacity to show three films at a time) and mostly play indie films. They do, however, show a number of the more inspired films that are at the big theatres as well, such as Into the Wild, Darjeeling Limited, and Valley of Elah which are playing at the moment. Before the movie you can get a cup of coffee or some locally made tasty baked goods and browse the local art hanging on the walls or sit back and read one of the many magazines or newspapers they have available. Oh, and they have boardgames too! It is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that encourages interaction among its patrons. Movies are economical at only 6.50 for an evening show and 5.50 for a matinee, which is significantly cheaper than most theatres I am slightly biased as this theatre is also within walking distance of my house :) read more

The Midtown Cinema is really the only place in Central PA to see things that are a little less than mainstream. They have a number of artsy films, but because certain movies just don't get into the big theatres in the area, it is also the only place to see the independent films. My family and I love seeing things here. My parents still live in the area, and they see movies here more than anywhere else. It is still also the most affordable place to see first-run films (I think it's $6.50 or $7.00 now, but they have a senior (55+) and student discount). It's not a luxury theatre, but reminds me of the Ritz East and Ritz 5 in Olde City Philly. They usually have some pretty delicious snacks, as well as typical theatre fare (again, for a price that is difficult to beat anywhere). If you want to meet up with friends before the showing, there are tables and games to pass the time. I've seen so many movies here over the years, including the first run of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," before it became one of the biggest indie hits. They also show documentaries and movies with a local appeal. read more

I went here on the evening of 1/27/16 to see the movie Lazer Team. My showing was completely sold out, so my experience my vary from the typical moviegoer's experience here. This theater isn't like any of the bigger theaters people typically go to, but that's not a bad thing! It's smaller and cozier. The movie screens are also smaller, but I saw no problem with this. I really like the fact that they show a lot of movies that other theaters don't! It's a great place to watch older or indie movies and get the theater experience! They also have a really nice selection of drinks and snacks, and offer different items than other theaters such as coffee, hot chocolate, flavored popcorn, and more. Granted, the prices of these items were a little high for my taste. But, hey, they're a smaller business and need to make their money, so I'm not too torn over that. The only issue I had was with the seating. The way the seats and screens are arranged, you can really get screwed over in a packed theater. I had an issue where I couldn't see a good portion of the screen because of the people sitting in front of me and there was nowhere else to sit. Now I do feel like this wouldn't occur during a normal showing of something that isn't completely sold out, so I wouldn't be too concerned over this if you're going here for the first time. I definitely recommend that you check this place out! I know I'm going to keep an eye on their screenings so I can go see an older movie that I love! There's a very old review on here stating that they only take cash. My movie was a special screening, so I got my tickets online through Tugg. I contacted the cinema on twitter and they do, in fact, take credit cards in case anybody was worried about that. read more

This is the only place to see arthouse films in Harrisburg so of course I love it. They sell a plethora of local snacks and you can BYO-zero day beer, so it's the perfect, comfy (perhaps boozy) way to see movies old and new. They're a staple of the indie/small business section of midtown and I can't recommend it highly enough for your movie watching experience. It's so much better than going to a chain. Plus they get better films anyway! Your next date night has a sundance film, some great beer, and even home made ice cream waiting for you. read more

Reily Cinema is definitely a landmark in Harrisburg. On the northern edge of the Midtown neighborhood, it houses three theaters which are tiny, but give you more of an intimate viewing. They play great films, most of which usually don't play in the regular theaters. And you can't beat the price - $6 ($7 for the last showing of the night)! And free popcorn on Tuesday. Haven't tried the coffee yet, but look forward to it. The only real negative thing I can say is that my interactions with some of the employees have been kinda disappointing...they're not very friendly most of the time. But, you only really have to interact with them when you buy your ticket. Get over there and see a film off the beaten path! read more

Midtown Cinema is really a hidden gem in the city of Harrisburg. The place is small and the screens don't compare to the entertainment megaplexes but its a great establishment. The workers are friendly and they always have great independent films playing. I saw Mongol here not long ago and the movie was really awesome, but not on the big screen anywhere else. Even though the theater is going to be relocated across the street for the new HACC midtown project, it will still remain an outstanding destination. I rarely come to central Pennsylvania, and when I do, it's usually over holidays. However, if I'm interested in seeing a movie, I'll only ever see it at the Reily Midtown Cinema. I won't even look to see what's playing at the Regal or AMC theaters in the area. This place has a small-town coffee shop feel, proudly displaying the work of local artists on the walls. Often these works are for sale, and often, they show interesting views and photographs of the city in which I grew up. The ticket prices are cheaper than at AMC and Regal (the last time I was here a movie was $6, though I'm sure it's increased), and the food prices are fair (the last time I was here, a can of soda was $1). They also server ice cream and coffee - something you'd never see at a big box cinema. The movies typically shown here are indie films that have gotten a lot of press at film festivals, and if this theater had not existed, I don't think people in Harrisburg would have a venue to see really great indie films. The theaters are small, but comfortable, and after being in a large cinema, it's almost as if you're watching a movie in someone's living room. As far as safety is concerned (and wouldn't be concerned about safety in this area of town), I feel pretty safe so long as I park in the lot provided, or close by on the street. I also feel a little more safe now that the HACC midtown campus is literally right next door. If you're looking for a great date-night movie theater, this is the place to go - then head down to second street and grab a late dinner or a drink. read more

Probably my favorite part about all of midtown! Always has movies that I'm dying to see that are hard to find, and unavailable in any mainstream theater. They are always putting on events for their community and seem to be truly committed to their surrounding community. Always carrying local items - popcorn, Urban Churn, etc. I love that I can pop over here to grab a scoop of ice cream, since no other ice cream place exists in the surrounding few blocks from my home. The staff is great and knowledgeable and always seems to genuinely love working where they work. I'm so happy that this gem exists in our city! read more

I love how the atmosphere is fresh and hip. The decor is great. There are fun activities like "Down in Front" where workers say funny things about B-movies. Also there are vinyl movie soundtracks for sale. Snacks are great; my favorite is Memphis BBQ popcorn. Snack prices are kind of high but you get a lot and can take it home. Attached Zeroday brewery has great beer. Parking lot is kind of small in the city so come early to find a spot. They play mostly indie movies, but I wish they would play less B-movies except for Down in Front and keep popular indie movies longer. Also I wish they would play more classic movies more often. Came to the cinema for the first time yesterday. We usually go to the Allen Theater in Annville but the movie they were showing didn't interest us so we decided on giving Midtown a try. The theater is old, they only feature 3 movies at a time (if I'm not mistaken), and screens are small but all of these made us like the theater even more. We are into indie, foreign films and the like. Pretty easy to find a parking spot. Quaint little theater with a large crowd of elderly people. Loved the place. We'll be frequenting it from now on. read more
