This past theatre season we did something we've never done before: we bought the subscription package. Comparing the cost to see these shows on Broadway in NYC versus here closer to home it was a package that made sense. We LOVED having the same seats for Hamilton, Beetlejuice, Ain't Too Proud, & Pretty Woman. Our seats were my favorite, but you can't have a bad seat. I've seen shows from Orchestra to back row Balcony in the past. Given the age of the theatre & how theatre seating is so very tight (esp in nyc) , Hershey Theatre is comfortable. I try to picture the long, full elegant gowns worn to the theatre back a century ago & I can't imagine how it could have been comfortable! But if those women made it through a theatre night, I certainly can too. For this theatre season, the air & heating systems seemed a problem for me. It was blustery cold outside but to warm & stuffy inside so it was a challenge to figure out how to dress appropriately. They never started on time. I don't know if it's the opening door time, enhanced security, or the show tour itself but time management seemed to be an issue this season at the Saturday 2pm shows. Snacks and drinks are provided for a reasonable fee. Regular care & maintenance was maintained to the rest rooms. And everything else people like to know about like parking & wifi plus the heating & cooling system is getting work done in 2025 so save your $$$ and get ready for an EPIC return to theatre when Hershey Theatre re-opens their doors after renovation!!! read more

Beautiful historic theater. Marble walls, gold glass mosaic ceilings! A couple thousand people max capacity? Nice pitch to the floor so you can see if you are short. Comfy seats. Some drinks and snacks to purchase. Small entry way so it was difficult for folks to go through set up metal detectors and wait to be seated. Would go to this venue again. My first time but the spouse has been here several times with friends. One night only of "Who's line is it anyway?" We were gifted the tickets so no idea on cost. The place was packed and the organization was fantastic. Parking simple. Security was very strict with medal detection and purse size limitation. Getting to our seats was quick and fairly easy even for a one eyed old guy and without and even without a lift. Seats were ok. Even for a 6 footer but not great. The show was a lot like the tv performance but a lot raunchier NOT a kids show. Exiting was again easy and fast, on the highway in 10 minutes. read more

(While this is still fresh in my mind...) Last night we attended the mellow Yacht Rockian sedate time of Justin Hayward and Christopher Cross. The show overall was good, although Cross I think comparatively mailed it in. He 86'ed his encore but that in a way wasn't surprising as the crowd to me was primarily there for Hayward and by the end of Cross's set, we were more than ready to Ride Like the Wind to the exit. Two big issues with the venue: 1. As mentioned by several other Yelpers, the security screening here is excessive and overdone. Cross your hands together over your chest while holding your phone, car keys, loose change, anything metallic and even then, if the detector goes off, get ready for a multi-faceted wanding. Sorry guys, but that's nuts. Anything wider than two cell phones is a no go to be in a small bag because it's too big, but if you can stuff it in your pockets, it's all good. Really, really stupid and arbitrary especially for a show where the mean age was somewhere in the lower 70's. 2. The building was entirely too hot. Whatever a/c that was on was minimal at best. Down front where the seating was full (back corners of the orchestra were wide open unsold and a hell of a lot cooler) it was a sauna. The person next to my Old Lady left after Hayward's set because she said she felt sick due to how hot it was. Personally, I don't think it was that bad, but again, it was excessive and no doubt it cut down on the crowd's enthusiasm for Cross's set. I'm not saying never again to seeing a show here as the building itself is a work of art and all the seats are good seats in terms of sightlines, but they really need to get their shit together in terms of how people are allowed in the building, and they also really need to give a bit more consideration to the audience's comfort level. If not, then yeah, why bother and why come back? Plenty of other venues that get it right and do a much better job with both things. read more

Saw the Beetlejuice musical last night. Such a beautiful old theatre from the 30's that is in amazing shape for its age. Plenty of seating, we love to sit in the balcony. The view from up there can't be beat. My only complaint is the rows are too close to each other. I'm only 5'9 but and my knees are pressed up against the seat in front of me. read more

I had an opportunity for my 32nd Alice Cooper concert of my lifetime at the Hershey Theatre and I couldn't pass it up. This is the perfect venue for this show. As long as you are aware of the "tics" of this place, you will have a great time. The metal detectors, the restrictions on only the tiniest purses (just bring your black eye mascara, cash for merchandise, and Id and be done with it). No elevator to the balcony, so be aware. Get in the parking lot 90 to 85 minutes prior to show. We had a light drizzle, and no protection from the elements. With the security check-in, we were a little wet as I'm not bringing an umbrella here unless I am just tossing it when I get in. As far as the crowd goes, something about the acoustics in this theatre made the crowd pretty loud. As most of Alice's longtime fans are entering retirement age (we're 58 and we like it), it was nice to hear how raucous this crowd could get. The show was different from any of the previous 31 that I have seen, and that made me happy. In exchange for a reduction in physical props, we got a lot of optical ones, and Alice brought back a snake for this tour. With no opening act, I was back in my hotel room by 10:30, which felt weird but Hershey is not really known for the adult nighttime hours. read more

Beware they do have a purse rule so I'd either not take one or just take a clutch! They do serve booze which isn't too far out priced! Seating is good weather on top balcony or below! read more

Beautiful historic theatre in the heart of downtown Hershey. Parking was fair for an hour early but it was filling up fast. Ladies!!!...(or men) You aren't allowed to bring in any purse larger than a flat wallet. They will send you back to your car. Concession prices are decent considering the venue. No more expensive than the movie theatre. Options to munch on are slim... chips, pretzels, and some candy. Now if you partake in spirits, there's a full bar available to you lol. All alcoholic beverages are served in the cutest sippy cups with the Hershey Theatre logo on it. Bring your cup back next show and receive $4 off your drink. We were there to see Jesus Christ: Superstar. Wonderful production. Great music. We really enjoyed ourselves. read more

There was merch and beverages/snacks available in the main corridor outside main hall. Things to know: *Parking is hectic and not very well coordinated so get there early if you don't want to deal with it. *Don't bring a bag or purse, it won't be allowed in and you'll have to traipse it back to your car. You can bring your wallet and phone. *Parking is also a nightmare when you leave. read more

Rude and prejudice staff, highly disappointed that I was treated kindly and members of our group were treated HORRIBLY for no reason at all. Beyond that, the theatre itself if in shambles, there are dozens of boarded up windows, paint spills, light fixtures broke and leaning. The ENTIRE place smells of sweat or urine, and people have mentioned it since the mid point of the line. We will just drive to NYC to enjoy broadway the way it should be enjoyed. read more

Been to a series of shows here from comedy to stage plays to orchestra concerts. There's no denying the theater is beautifully preserved and a piece of history. All the shows we've seen have been phenomenal, so my review is strictly on the building and staff. That being said the theater is dated. Seats are very close together, sound is hit or miss depending on your seat and the stage can be hard to view. Best seats we've had are on the first floor, as the balcony feels like an airport seating, barely any leg room and stuffed shoulder to shoulder with other patrons. We parked in the lot, never having a huge issue here with parking but we leave late, personal preference. This time there was a sign about baggage size that was tossed off to the side like it was old and not being enforced. Get to the door and I got rushed by 2 "security" guards telling me to exit the building as my bag was too large (it was a small purse. I saw women going in with backpacks). Husband took my purse back to the car as I saw more and more people being turned away with bags. No signage anywhere enforcing it aside from the one sign hidden in the parking lot. Checked their website and no where is it mentioned about the security detail on their main page. You have to look under the FAQs. After that you have to go through a metal detector that goes off for each person cause everyone now has to carry their keys and cell phones and be scanned again. They stopped my husband and scanned him 3-4 times as it turns out his belt buckle was setting off the alarm. They need better trained guards or more signage so people know what they're getting in for. For the price you pay for a show, leave the purse at home, wear elastic waist yoga pants and uber there so you don't set off any metal detectors with keys or cell phones. You'll still be funneled in like cattle though. read more

How lucky are we; that this theatre is near us! . I would highly recommend seeing a play or musical or event here. They're always putting on productions that are part of a National broadway tour. Singers, dancers & actors were impeccable. The costume & multiple set changes were seamless. For small stage they sure made use of all the set changes that happened with this musical. They must have done some magic getting all the sets on they needed for this musical. . Staff were friendly (most are volunteers) and helpful. They did run out of programs. I wish there was a QR code for them. No cell phone on during show, but before & intermission are fine. There are snacks & drinks to buy. . Treat a friend or family member to this astonishing and well preserved classic of a theater. You won't regret it. read more

Behold classic beauty with a wonderful well run concert venue. The only challenge is the bathroom situation. Although the bathrooms are certainly lovely we no longer have need for large waiting rooms which I wish could be remodeled to accommodate more stalls. I took my wife to see Chicago (which has been on her bucket list) we've sat other places in the theater and have been great .But since my wife has wanted to see this we got 2nd row pit seating and I was so disappointed I had some fat stinky lady next to me hershey please eliminate two seats per row and spread the seats out alittle.this seats were right on top of each other so this lady needed a seat and a half herself so I had to sit on half my seat and I'm only 5'5 150 .so I'll stop my rant and just beg Hershey when offering pit seating please spread them out .That being said we have two more shows booked because this is a great theater with awesome friendly staff and always a great night out .and if anyone is looking for a place to eat I'm giving a shout out to Devon seafood but be sure to make reservations read more

First Time here! Grand Ole Theatre in the heart of Hershey! Being treated to Parkside Harmony! Great Accapella Harmonies! If you love Barbershop Quartets think of this as one times 15! They also had a quartet from Sweden called the Ringmasters excellent group of young entertainers who's rendition of Frankie Valy & The Four seasons were outstanding! The arrangements and co-ordination of some 60 men is fantastic! Very relaxed atmosphere for a theater. If you get a chance to visit the Hershey Theatre and can see anything on the venue I am sure you will enjoy yourself! read more

Great venue though a ridiculous & stupid policy on purse size EVEN though, like all venues, contents of all bags and purses have to be inspected. Never seen a more moronic approach to security. This choice by management resulted in witnessing a lot of guests starting their experiencing extremely negatively with holding up the line, arguing, getting pissed off, and having to return to their vehicles to put a purse away. Staff weren't particular pleasant either as they had repeated arguments with frequent customers who didn't know about the policy or instantly realized the stupidity of it. They even had staff (paid or volunteers I don't know) stationed outside at various points to warn guests with big purses they wouldn't be allowed. Guests with smaller purses got to use the little bag screeners at the security check point - think a ridiculous tiny version of the overhead bag size screener at airport gates. Though a purse could be folded over and fit in the size-screener, even that wasn't allowed. Someone in management needs to go to the woodshed for continuing to support this idiocy which frequently pisses off guests and requires more staff to stand around outside and warn customers (at least those with obviously large bags). Guests with small purses (but not small enough) get the privilege of a virtual smack down when they try to get into the venue. Not sure of the purpose since a small plastic flask of really good bourbon or a pot vape pen in pants pockets apparently doesn't set off the security devices - not to say that I have tried to get either or both of those things inside but others might have. read more

I will be doing 2 reviews. This relates the the theater only. Admittedly I'm a little salty right now. 2 stars for the simple fact that rules are arbitrarily enforced regarding what can be brought in and by who. Brought a small handbag within measurement specs for show only to be told I couldn't bring it in. I was only holding ID, keys, and cellphone. But others were allowed larger or same size bags in. So whatever they were protecting us from wouldn't matter because half the security didn't give a crap?!? This was a very frustrating way to start what was supposed to be a nice even. The theater is a beautiful venue for concerts. I've been here many times. The seat ushers are probably volunteers but every 5 minutes we are getting up to let people into the row only to have to get back io to let them out because they were lead to the wrong seats. Overall not a great starting experience for the show from that standpoint. I will be back in November for another show to see if the same thing happens. When you pay a premium price for a show, I expect better customer service for the overall experience. read more

Went here last night for a comedy show, and we were both taken aback by the theaters beauty. This theater feels so elegant and historic. It was huge and had many seats. The chairs were pretty comfortable. The parking lot absolutely sucked, and wait to get out was forever. We even parked very close to the entrance. The bar inside this place was outrageous, for one wine glass and one cocktail was $44 total. read more

I would give 0 starts if I could! Went to see Hadestown a few days ago. The show was fantastic, but the theatre and staff are abysmal! I bought seats mid-theatre, because I don't have the best of eyesight even with prescription glasses and all the seats close up were gone already to pre-sales. So, I get in the theatre and we sit down with plenty of time until the show starts. Just as the lights start to dim, a 6'4" wall of a man, with the head the size of a basketball, sits down in front of my partner. We have just enough time to switch seats with each other before the actors took the stage. I CAN'T SEE A THING! I spent the next hour and some trying to peer around his giant head to see anything. The seating is angled so flat that anyone taller than you will block your view. At the break I ran to the bathroom, but the queue was so long that I didn't get out until the show was starting up again. I raced to my seat as the rest of the band started emerging. Once again, Unable to see a thing on stage other than the wings. It's a good job the acting and the show were amazing, otherwise I would have walked out. After the show, I wait for the crowd to dissipate and went to find the manager. I received THE most snarky and unapologetic treatment I've ever had! To summarize; I was told that there was nothing they could do now, that I should have come to them to complain at the break (already missing half the show), and they would have moved us to vacant seats (the only vacant seats were at the back of the theatre or on the wings... NOT what we paid for!). So their solution was 'F&$% You!'. I paid to see a show. I got to listen to it (I could have bought the album for that for a Helluva lot cheaper!) and neck ache from trying to bend my head around the guy's in front of me. AVOID THIS THEATRE AT ALL COSTS! They don't care what you paid for and don't care if their venue screws you! read more

Visited here for the first time to see the Price Is Right Live show. They have a great way of moving everything/everyone along in a quick fashion. Seating is comfortable and there is a parking lot directly across the street. It's also very close to local restaurants and bars so you could get there early and grab a bite to eat before your show. Staff encountered was very friendly and helpful with good attitudes. I would visit again. read more

My first time @ HERSHEY THEATER, was Saturday. The building itself is big and beautifu ! I never saw a rock concert in a theater before. It was actually ok.The seats were for the most part comfortable and the inside of theater was very nice.It has an upper level, I was in the lower level.We saw Eva under fire, Bad Wolves and Bush.Gavin, actually went into the audience, which was pretty cool! They have parking , right across from theater.Which was great! So you didn't have to walk far to your car. read more

Beautiful theater! It's a historical building and hence doesn't have some modern facilities which we are used to seeing now. Bathrooms are very small and have limited stalls. The seats are small too. I know so many friends who would be quite uncomfortable if they went there. Small though gives a feeling of watching a personal show and hence a different experience. read more

We went on November 29, 2022 to see the Bluey show. It was supposed to start at 6:00 p.m. but didn't start until 6:20 p.m. We got there at 5:00 p.m. so we could get decent parking and to deal with security. The show itself was about 40 minutes long so we were in line longer than the actual show was. You can only go in with keys, cell phone and a card or two. They literally have a block and ruler to make sure no clutches are bigger than 5 by 8 by 1 inch. Diaper bags are allowed but only because they don't want sued. It was not an overall great experience and considering the prices of their shows it is something I will have to reconsider going to again.​ read more

I came here on Monday evening to see Alison Krauss. I actually drove 3 hours from Pittsburgh to attend the concert. First of all, it is an absolutely gorgeous space, inside and out. I was very excited to be there.The acoustics were great. My issue with the Hershey Theater was with members of the usher staff that evening. We had seats towards the very back of the theater. The ushers allowed an inordinate number of people walk through the isles after the show had already started. It was as if nobody knew what time the show actually started, despite the fact that there was music being played. I've been to other concert venues (PPG Paints comes to mind) where the ushers will actually make you wait until there's a natural break (when a song is over) to let people walk down the isles (because it is distracting to people). Not here. There were people milling around through more than half of the opening act. To make matters worse, since we were sitting near the back, we were unfortunate enough to have to listen to all the ushers who were clustered together behind us talking as if they were in their living room - at a pretty loud volume since there was music playing. I found them to be very inconsiderate. At one point, my husband, who's a pretty chill guy, turned around and gave them all a great big SHHHHH!!!! This got everyone's attention and they were quiet the rest of the show. These people should know better or they should be trained a little better. The show was great, but it would have been greater if we didn't have to endure dozens and dozens of people shuffling up the aisles after the show began. read more

I came here on Wednesday with my son to see a show. Overall, the theatre is beautiful. It's a huge piece of history in Hershey. Yes, the seats are small and you don't have a lot of room. However, it's an old building. The parking... what a nightmare. There was no one directing traffic in and around the area. Saw the goo goo dolls here- incredible theatre-incredible show. Great Art Deco style. Environment conducive to many different style acts or shows. Parking very handy and no added charge. Seats are small - made in an era of smaller heinies I guess. The only female bathroom on first floor had 2 stalls and after a while they didn't even flush well. Line was quite long. Set up for alcohol drains one even further. If you want to take your drink into the auditorium they require that you buy a $4 cup with a lid. Not bad concept- just another revenue builder read more

Truly a great experince. I have seen The Blue Man Group here once and I recently saw Elf. To be honest, Elf was a better experience. We were downclose to the orchestra pit rather in the balcony. The seating was off to the right, but was still fantastic. The seats are a little small, but it looks to be an older theature. It is meticulous though, very ornate. What's funny about the seats are that this is farm country, and all the farmers I have met in my life were usually bigger more muscular people. I am not a huge guy, maybe bigger than most. The seats fit me snuggly. The person next to me was much bigger, she sat on a bit of an angle. Either way, I was comfortable, so this is minor. The attendants were very pleasant and helpful. The woman who sat us had never used an iPhone, but still took our picture when we asked. Those randomn acts of kindness that people do to make a guest's visit special and are what makes or breaks a business. We actually used that picture, for our Christmas card. They sell wine, coffee and hot chocalate, it was tastey. My wife was being playful so she complained to the person serving wine that I don't take her anywhere and that I was cheap. He felt bad for her so he gave her a lot more than she should have had. It was very funny and worth the embarrassment, as it made her smile. So the pseudo bartenders are nice, caring people. The entire experience was awesome and I look forward to my next visit. read more

Another beautiful building... brought to you by Milton Hershey. So I learned a few things about this Theater throughout my weekend in this small town. First, this building was constructed and designed by Mr. Hershey during the great depression and was originally used as the community center. Also, this is the "smallest" theater used for Broadway (off) shows, so when the sets are built, they are specifically built to this stages scale. If they fit here, they will fit anywhere. The building itself is stunning. It has very detailed and ornate walls and ceilings. When you want into the actual theater, look up. You will see the individual pieces of stone that have been placed together to create amazing pictures. The details in the walls that are holding the light and sound systems are just amazing. The seating here is a bit dismal. It's small and cramped and you are essentially sitting in the lap of the person next to you. I found the seats to be uncomfortable too. Add winter coats to the small area and you've created a three hour coffin. I am sure this is not an every night issue, but the night we were there it was so stifling hot inside the theater that is was hard to breathe. During intermission, even the nonsmokers rushed outside to get some sort of relief. The staff is very nice and the rest rooms are stunning. read more
