Picking apples
John A.

This is an amazing place to pick apples. When Apple season is open, you check the website to tell you what types are being picked. They take really good care of their facilities and grounds. And the Cinnamon Donuts are a must.

Apple picking day

We went to the orchard for Apple picking and overall it wasn't about experience. The prices for pick your own apples are reasonable, the property is well maintained and labelling of which trees have which apples was clearly understood. This store had a nice variety of locally made goods and fresh produce, and sells fresh Apple cider doughnuts. Here is where this review loses a star. I was waiting in line to use the restroom facilities when I saw staff walked back-and-forth with fresh packs of donuts. I ask the staff member how I could get a package, I was told I could buy them from the store or I could come around to the front window and get them hot. Hot apple cider doughnuts?? Yes please. So I went to the front window and ordered a dozen while my group waited at the picnic tables. The young lady at the window said they could give me a package of 6 but I would just have to wait for a little while for the other 6, which I was fine with, so I moved to the side. That is where things went wrong. Someone (who was probably a manager?) then had a meeting with the people in the fresh food kitchen and gave a dressing down to the young lady who took my order. While customers waited in line, the manager loudly explaining that (apparently), only orders of 4 doughnuts or less could be taken at the window. It seems there was some confusion between orders in the shop and orders at the window, a list had been created of people waiting for donuts, things were getting crowded in the store, and now there was a waiting list for doughnuts. I felt so bad for the young lady at the window. The manager was absolutely out of line in the way was handled in that moment while customers waited to be served. It sounds like there are some training and communication issues need resolved here. I waited 15 minutes outside for the 6 remaining doughnuts. Taste wise, the wait was worth it, the outside of the doughnuts was crispy with cinnamon and sugar while the inside was pillowy on soft and light. The doughnut may have been a cake donut but it wasn't heavy or soggy, they were heaven.

Stopped here today to grab some fruit. Just googled local fruit stand and google pulled this place up. Thank you Google! This time a year the fruit section is lagging or not ripe..but they had a good selection..and it was ripe, and good. We got blueberries, pre cut cantaloupe (from their cantaloupe selection), and their homemade mini cheesecakes. Definitely get you some of those cheesecakes!! Amazing!! They have a nice selection of their canned jelly, salsa, butter spreads (apple, pumpkin, etc), little toy section for the kiddos, they have every flavor of cow tail (I don't care what age you are..they're amazing!), An entire honey section ..it was amazing, and a refrigerated/frozen meat area. The employee that took care of us today was super friendly, and kind. We are going back tomorrow to get some ice cream from their ice cream stand..so I'll definitely take some more pics and drop them below. But for now.. here's the bomb ass cheesecake minis and cow tails. As promised..went back tonight..ice cream..price vs serving size.. perfect. I got the cappuccino ice cream and my fiance got moose tracks. Both were amazing. 2 sizes..small & large. At the moment you have to order your ice cream as the cash register Inside. Beautiful views while you eat your ice cream. Also..I feel comfortable after going to days in a row..saying that this is an LGBTQ+ friendly spot. The staff was kind to us both times. Added a bunch more pictures!

Well, I was here on free ice cream day so they get 5 starts from me. It's a nice local shop that we occasionally stop at to get fresh fruit and food. They have ice cream for sale as well. If you're in the area you should stop by. They're really close to ski Roundtop!

Clearly a must to see for the family! The fruit is Great for sure but I love taking our 7 year old grandson. Deven loves watching the bees work in the well designed inside hive that has access to the outside for the bees to carry on their busy activities. Needless to say Deven only wants honey on his blue berry hot cakes not pancake syrup. We also top off our visit with a hand dipped ice cream cone followed by a picture in the Giant Paulus rocking chair, that makes Great pictures seeing his growth through the years... Great job Paula's orchard!!!

This weekend was my first time apple and pumpkin picking at Paulus and it was a great experience! The staff was super friendly and helpful which made you feel welcome. This location also has plenty of parking which is great. The farm was quite large offering 7 different kinds of apples. I found the prices to be extremely affordable ($.99 / lb) when compared to NJ prices. Although it's a bit late in the season there were plenty of apples still left on the trees. The pumpkin patch had a variety of pumpkins. I was impressed that most of the pumpkins were in great shape which made it hard to choose. The farm was clean and I didn't have to step over any rotting pumpkins. They also grow fresh butternut squash you can pick as well as other fruits and vegetables based on the season. The market was great!!! The apple cider donuts were delicious and you can buy them freshly made. What's better than a hot apple cider donut??? They also made whoopee pies which I couldn't pass up! Fresh, delicious, generous in size and inexpensive. I'm looking fwd to going back in the spring to pick some blueberries and take home some whoopee pie goodness!

Took a girls trip and loved it!! About a hour and a half drive from Baltimore. This places has TONS to do (although it was raining and not everything was open). First we went Apple picking. Acres as far as the eye can see with Apple trees. Lots of types to choose from (some I had never heard of before but so glad I tried...Mutsu apples OMG!) The trees which you are able to pick from are easily identified so there is no question. You are given a big or small bag at the beginning and you can choose as much as you want. You play by the weight. .87 cents a lb for all apples (so one type is not more expensive than others). They also accept credit cards which is super convenient. Next on to the pumpkins. I have never seen so many in my life! They have your basic jack o lanterns and "speciality" pumpkins that are blue/green, stripes, spotted, you name it! So pretty! It was hard practicing self control when I would have taken all of them! Pricing ranges by size. About $2 for a small and $15 for large. Last was the gift shop. I'm warning you now it's impossible to leave without buying something! Everyone looked amazing! Apple cider donuts are my new favorite thing! They were even still warm! Apple butter and peach salsa are perfect! Only down side of the day was the rain, causing the corn maze and other attractions not to be open but we still had just as much fun! Would recommend this place to anyone!

Our go to place in the fall for fun. We love the corn maze and other family activities. Great spot for apply and pumpkin picking. They also have a great store that has good apply butter, jams, and apple cider.

This was the horde of goodies that we harvested (picked ourselves) from Paulus Orchards. Extremely fair price for high quality goods!

What a fabulous experience my family and I had this past weekend (Columbus Day) at Paulus Orchard. We arrived a little bit early, and we are glad that we did!! It was such a beautiful weekend, it seemed like everyone had the same idea we did. Below is a pretty comprehensive review of our time here: Apple Orchard: This was by far one of the top reasons why we came. My daughter had never picked apples prior to this experience. Overall, the Jonathan apples were... hands-down ...the best. The orchard itself was relatively well mowed and maintained, and there was a wide variety of apples that were ripe for the pickin. We bought a large bag for about 15.95. I think for the quantity of apples you can stuff into this bag, that it is a fair price for a great experience. You have to remember, you are paying for the apples, and for the experience. This was a waaaay better way to spend my Sunday with my daughter than going to some other activity of equal cost -- like a movie...(4/5) Pumpkin Patch: Daaaaamn. How about those pumpkins...some were freakin' huge, and shaped perfectly for carving. I got one of the largest pumpkins I have ever bought for an incredibly fair price. It was a great deal. I have bought $30 pumpkins before that weren't half as nice in Central NY. I think that the monstrosities (pictured) were like $12 each. That is amazing. (5/5) Corn Maze/Kid area: We opted to do the orchard and patch first. When we were finished, the other activities were over-run with people / kids. As such, we opted to skip this, but I wanted to write about it anyway. From what we saw, there was a really cool play are for kids. I wish it wasn't so busy ... so keep this in mind if you go. You may want to do these activities first (4/5) General Store: Within their store they have a pretty fair selection of homemade items and products. From apple cider that is produced locally with their apples, to canned jams, jellies, and pickled items, to some pre made baked good like apple dumplings and pies. Additionally, they even have a little section of produce. We almost bought the entire lot of jalapenos because they looked great. Unfortunately, we had just stopped at Karn's the day before. Bummer for us. (4/5) Price: For what I got, I feel like the experience was well worth it. From the humongous pumpkins, to the quaint orchard, we all had a great family experience. (5 / 5) Service: The service was varied. It bordered on unhelpful at times given that we had never been there, but then another worker was extremely pleasant and helpful. So I got a pretty good mix of people. Overall (3/5) Final Thoughts: This is definitely a place I will be back at next year. I was really happy with the vast array of activities and things to do for a fair price. This is a great adventure for your whole family.

Awesome farm not far from mechanicsburg. Aside from having a cool little farm market, they provide a wholesome experience for the kids in their playland. There were two pedal car tracks, human hamster wheels, kids chicken coup, a place to build kid sized log cabins and many other thoughtfully entertaining activities for kids and grown ups to enjoy together. Though the apple picking (starting at 10.00) and pumpkin patch (ranging from 3 to 12 bucks) were not included in the admission to play land, if you just want to do the patch and orchard, you can. I will make this a lovely fall tradition.

Had a lot of fun here with the family. Yeah in the end I think it's a more overpriced then buying apples and pumpkins from Giant but it really is an experience. It's fun to go out to the orchards with the kids and pick all your own apples. And then go up to the pumpkin patches and pick those out as well.

The veritable cherry on top of their cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, jarred foods, baked goodies, pretzels, popcorn, candies, and frozen foods is their Whoopie Pie Festival, which we attended today. The Festival runs on Feb. 26-28 & March 5-7 between 9am - 4pm. Essentially, you can create Your Own Whoopie Pie for $4 each, 4 or more at $3.50 each, and 12 or more $3 each. Here's how it works - make your customized selections of one of 12 cookies, one of 11 frostings, and one of 7 toppings, and Brecknock will build your pie. I went full Elvis mode and selected banana cookies, peanut butter frosting, and chocolate chip toppings around the circumference. We had a great time at Brecknock -making our Whoopie pies, playing a whoopie pie trivia game, and picking up a few odds and ends for us and friends. PRO TIP Hats off to Brecknock for their generosity and hospitality. They had free samples everywhere- whoopie pie wedges, pretzels, popcorn, and all sorts of goodies. It worked on us, because after sampling some honey mustard pretzels, we couldn't grab a bag fast enough.
