I first met Dr. Mavani when I rotated with her during my residency, shortly before our twins were born. From the start, it was clear that she is a brilliant clinician. More importantly, she is a kind and compassionate person who truly cares about her patients and their families. It was quickly apparent that she was exactly the kind of pediatrician my wife and I wanted for our family. One of the things we appreciate most is how she includes both parents in every conversation. My wife and I bring our boys to their appointments together, and Dr. Mavani never directs explanations solely at me as a physician. Instead, she takes the time to break everything down in a way that ensures we're both equally informed and comfortable with our boys' care.

The place is overall nice and the staff is nice, nothing to complain. But I got 2 issues with them and for my first meeting didn't have the best impression ! The day before my appointment I got a text message reminding me about my appointment and the hour was different that the one I had on my agenda. I thought they changed so I came at the time I got on my text message. Obviously it was a mistake, the second hour wasn't working anymore, the front girl was really nice, apologized and gave me another day ! I was upset I had to come for nothing but not a big deal. A few days ago I got a bill telling me I had to pay for the appointment I missed. It wasn't my fault, I came at the appointment at the exact time I got on their text message reminder. I called and sent e-mail to discuss about the bill and they made me feel like it was my fault if I missed the appointment not their. They made me a "favor" avoiding the bill but it would be the last time. I have to admit I don't like the way they talked to me. The second point that bothered me. For my 2 years old physical the nurse told me he had to do an eyes testing. I asked if it was normal she said yes so I trusted her. We went to another room to get him tested. She put all the materials on him and after 3 min trying, she said she couldn't do it because he couldn't stand still and its was a long test apparently. I asked her when we could do it again and she said I had until he would be 6 ! When he was time to pay they made me pay $18.50 for the materials the nurse used on my son for just 3 minutes. I am ok to pay, I just think if she was professional she would have noticed that it would have been impossible to make my two years old, really active son, sit without moving for a long time and would have saved her time and me money if she would have told me right away waht the test was about. So that was only my first experience there... Still don't know if I want to keep going there or not...

After the visit and follow-up, we were billed $602.49, and I still have not received a clear explanation for why a scheduled wellness visit was billed/processed in a way that left us with significant deductible charges instead of being covered by insurance. They do not let you call the billing department, so I first emailed billing about the issue on April 22. After no response, I followed up on May 1. After still not receiving an answer, I emailed again on May 12 just asking them to acknowledge they were receiving my emails. They finally responded on May 13, saying the issue had been sent to upper management and resubmitted to insurance. I had to follow up again on June 2 before receiving another brief response. At no point did I receive a clear itemized explanation or a direct answer to my main question: why was a pre-scheduled 4-year wellness visit not billed as a preventive wellness visit? At this point, I am out this money unless I pursue formal legal options to recover it. And now I need to find a new pediatrician as I would be stupid to work with this people again.

The first thing that impressed me was the separate waiting rooms - one for sick kids and one for well kids - genius! The front line staff has always been welcoming, courteous and helpful. The nurses are very kid-friendly and incredibly knowledgeable! I have called the nurse line so many times over the years and feel like I have always received professional and reliable counsel, wether it is to bring my kids in to be seen (we are almost always able to get in same day which is a HUGE plus!) or a recommendation to try an OTC medicine first (appreciate not dragging my kid in if it's not necessary!!), or even an assurance that I was managing a sickness appropriately. I even appreciate the billing staff who, because of inadequate insurance for a time and a very sick child, I got to know early on, always handled our situation with kindness and compassion! All of this is, IMHO, exceptional compared to our previous experiences with two other practices, but, of course, wouldn't even matter if the doctors weren't absolutely top-notch medical professionals! Their expertise and dedication, apparent to me in every interaction, is what continues to make me confident in recommending Northeast Pediatric, and also why they are getting all five stars! (Shout out to Dr. Earles and Dr. Antone, who are the doctors we usually see). No practice is perfect, so as for negatives, sometimes the wait time to see the doctor can be a little long, especially if you've called for a same day appointment and they are fitting you in, but in talking to other moms and my own experiences, this is a universal issue with every medical practice wether it's pediatric, adult or specialty. However, I recently had a negative experience with the front desk staff, and this review is focused on that aspect of my visit. The woman I spoke with was rude and not customer-service oriented. I had questions about my insurance since I recently changed plans, and she did not explain the information clearly. She spoke to me in a way that made me feel as though she were doing me a favor, and my questions were not answered properly. I arrived 15 minutes late for my appointment and informed the office in advance. I was told that I would still be seen. However, during my visit, she stated that there were issues with my insurance and that too much time had passed, so my appointment had to be canceled. This was frustrating, especially since on several occasions in the past, I have waited up to 30 - 40 minutes to be seen. Later, I attempted to make another appointment and called at 4:50 PM, but I was told the office was already closed, even though the website states that the office closes at 5:00 PM. I wanted to share this experience because I have always valued the care provided by the doctors, and I hope this feedback can help improve the overall patient experience.

She put another woman on (office manager) who came on the phone and she had already decided she wasn't going to listen to me. I also have two biological children and no one ever refers to them as "biological children" repeatedly and gets stuck on that as a matter of process rather than listening to my needs. If you have to ask if you've experienced discrimination, it's usually the case. The office manager told me if I have to question whether a pediatric office can see my child as a human maybe it's not the place for me and I agree. I hung up and won't be bringing any of my kids there.
