Extremely disappointing experience -- $7,400 installation took nearly a month and still required…read moreanother company to finish the job I hired Old School Cooling to install a new geothermal heat pump/AC system. I was told this would essentially be a one-day installation, and I paid the full $7,400 by credit card the day before they even began the work. Unfortunately, what should have been a one-day project turned into a process lasting approximately two weeks, involving five separate days of work by four employees. During the installation, I became increasingly concerned about whether the crew had the experience and qualifications necessary to handle the particularities of our building's geothermal system. The biggest problem occurred when our building had a very important and expensive building-wide water shutdown scheduled so the necessary valves could be addressed. After all that time and preparation, Old School Cooling arrived at the point where the valves needed to be changed and they did not know how to change them. They ultimately installed the AC equipment, but the system was not actually operational because the valves could not be properly addressed. Even worse, they had removed my hot water heater as part of the installation, leaving me without hot water. At that point, I had to bring in another company to finish what I believed Old School Cooling should have completed as part of the original $7,400 installation. I ended up paying: * $7,400 to Old School Cooling for the original installation * $1,155 additional for another building-wide shutdown and the necessary valve work * $600 additional to have my hot water heater reinstalled after Old School Cooling had removed it So I was out another $1,755 simply to get the job completed and restore basic hot water service. In total, it took almost a month before the valves were finally changed, the hot water tank was back in place, and the AC system was actually working. My biggest issue isn't simply that the project took longer than expected. Problems can happen during complicated HVAC installations. My issue is that I paid the entire $7,400 upfront, the project went dramatically beyond the promised timeline, the crew ultimately could not complete an important part of the installation, and I was left with an inoperable AC system and no hot water, requiring me to spend another $1,755 to get everything functioning. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Old School Cooling get in writing exactly what is included in the installation, who is responsible for specialized valve work, what happens if the installation cannot be completed, and whether the company will cover additional building shutdowns or costs caused by an incomplete installation. This was a very frustrating and expensive experience, and unfortunately I cannot recommend Old School Cooling based on what happened with my installation.

They scheduled the installation within the tight timeframe we needed. The crew arrived on time and were very professional and friendly. They wore masks the whole time they were inside our condo and put down lots of canvas tarps to keep our place clean. The job took a little over 4 hours and I'm very happy with the results. I would highly recommend this company.

My experience with CoolTeam is limited to services provided under a yearly service contract for a…read moreKings Point Delray Beach condo. It appears that CoolTeam markets heavily within this and other 55+ retirement communities, providing yearly maintenance and minor repairs (by contracts where the rate is based on age of appliances), to all appliances within a unit, plus minor electrical and plumbing. I think many of the elderly residents, especially those 80+, take comfort knowing that if something goes wrong with their HVAC or dishwasher or washing machine, they can call one number and a technician is scheduled. I used services under the existing service contract to have an AC unit checked and tuned-up, which cost $39.95, and again to have the coils cleaned on the AC, which cost $334. The coils probably had never been cleaned in the 10 years the unit was in place, as they were filthy, likely due to the use of a filter which was improperly sized, allowing dirt to enter the unit. Establishing an appointment for either wasn't difficult, call their local or toll free unit. The reason for the 3star rating was the demeanor of the tech who handled both service calls. He was gruff. He was abrupt. He had an annoyed tone in his responses to simple questions I asked. He was rushing. He was dismissive. He talked down to me. Bottom line, he was nasty, as if he was constipated and needed to take a good dump, or more likely, just plain disgusted with his life as a service tech where 95% of his clients were 85 years old. I'm not reading too much into his behavior, I think I'm reading him well. When I mentioned him to my contractor who had just finished renovating the condo, he knew exactly who I meant, and said "I'll talk to him when he arrives and set him straight". I don't like, no, I am repelled by service providers who are dealing with clientele in the 80's who treat them with disrespect, annoyance, impatience. Their behavior is intimidating to these elderly and sometimes frail or infirm residents. Management of CoolTeam should counsel this tech to be nicer and more sensitive. While I sensed he was efficient and competent and did what needed to be done correctly, I felt like telling him he was a nasty angry man, and that I hoped his Mom or Dad or Grandparents were never treated as rudely and insensitively as he interacted with me. And I'm not in my 80's, far from it. Oh, I still tipped him well, as my bleeding heart liberal NY upbringing came to the forefront and I figured most elderly residents under tipped or didn't tip at all, and he deserved to be recognized for his efficient and competent work. But he was nasty, simply grump, nasty, rude, abrupt. Like he was doing me a favor showing up and doing his job. (In college sociology course we learned the concept of "role disdain" - that's when someone's despises the responsibilities of their jobs, and takes out their annoyance about their life on those they interact with. I'm certain we meet a lot of people like that, huh? Check out other companies which provide the same package service contracts. Ask neighbors.

Whether you consider the wiring issue minor or significant, correctly configuring the wiring is part of completing the installation. Returning to correct it was your responsibility. It does not erase the inconvenience or the time we spent dealing with the problem. We paid approximately $6,500 and expected the installation to be completed correctly. We recently had another licensed company install an AC system of the same size for $3,200, without requiring multiple return visits. That experience makes your pricing and service particularly disappointing. I also do not appreciate being told that my complaint was "taken out of proportion." We contacted you about the problem, and our concerns deserve to be addressed respectfully. The fact that this is a rental property does not lower our expectations for professional service. I am requesting a partial refund to compensate for our time and the inconvenience caused by the repeated visits. Please respond with a proposed refund amount and a timeline for resolving this matter.
