For each possession type (clothing, toiletry, food, paper, sentimental) we took everything out to be sorted at once. We sorted into categories to keep, to keep for a limited time, to purge/give away. She even went the extra mile to bring some items to the thrift store for me, with my consent, so they wouldn't just sit in my entryway waiting to leave. Overall I grew in my ability to consciously consider the possessions I bring into my home. I was able to release gifts that had been given to us, but were not sparking joy, without guilt.
