Sixty year old Chicago chick with long, color-damaged, brown hair and four inch grey roots walks into a salon. Owner consultation ensues regarding turning the look to overall-grey. All hands on deck opine committee-style. Determination is made that hair integrity will likely hold rigorous bleaching process in spite of decades' over-processing. Candid risk/reward discussion takes place. Chicago chick gives big, bright, green light. Six hours and lots of fun later, high fives abound. Chicago chick and her sweetie head to next door saloon for supper, where they kiss goodbye 25 years of dying grey roots brown. Goodbye faker hair. Hello authentic self.
Chicago chick's visit to Reflect Hair Salon for the go-grey-today process was three months ago at the time of this writing. Routine to maintain the KOOL long hair grey look involves only using a "purple" shampoo. Easy street at last.
I'll finish this review in first person narration: I have hired and fired salons for 25 years. By age 60 (the final 10 years), I almost cut my hair boy-short just to be able to ultimately go fully grey, which was a priority I long held in order to establish congruence with my aging face. The constant refusal on the part of salon owners (and individual color artists) to bleach my quasi- Marsha Brady hair was paternalistic, and a brand of defensive medicine that had become such a frustrating yawn. Finally, I said no more to the salon industry annuity that I had become, and decided to see what my winter in South Carolina had to offer as far the salon business model.
Shortly after getting situated at our place in Beaufort, I researched, studied reviews and interviewed salons. I picked Reflect Hair Salon because the owner AND her team spent solid time evaluating me and my hair. The owner then pivoted back to me with a recap of the risk/reward equation, and proposed a solution that fully respected my autonomy as a consumer. I am back in Chicago for the summer, am now a Reflect Salon regular for my winters in South Carolina, and can't wait to reconnect with my new-found, young friends.
