Hamburger Steak with gravy and rice, Mac and Cheese, & Sweet Potato Casserole.
    Ashley S.

I am so glad I was finally able to stop by Refined To Go! If you want your grandmother's well seasoned cooked food, then RTG is the place to be! We stopped by on a Sunday and they actually have a selective menu. They have their regular, Winter menu during the other days they are open. I had the hamburger steak with gravy and rice and my sides were Mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, and greens with turkey neck. My friend had the fried catfish meal and also with the same sides. Ohhh and we had some good, buttery cornbread too. With all of that food, it was still priced very well. The food was served hot and was very tasty. The only side I wasn't a big fan of was the sweet potato casserole. It wasn't as sweet and had a little too much cinnamon seasoning. It also was a little dry, but I added some melted butter and some pepper to it and brought it back to life. Other than that, this is down south, country cooking at its best! I will definitely be back to visit again!

This business is only 15 min for I-65. It is worth the drive. When we travel we try to find locally owned restaurants. I knew the owner was a trained chef when I looked at the menu. 2 meals and 2 drink was $42. Well worth it. It was a sophisticated menu with a hometown friendliness. They have seasonal menus and soul food Sundays. Everything is fresh, and the service is excellent. It is easy to get to. We will be stopping again! Take note of the hours of operation.

This really is off the beaten path. It's located in old Town helena behind the area of good fellas bar. It is to go food but not your typical to go food. There are so tables and chairs set up if you want to eat your food out there. Chef James is always greeting you with a welcoming smile. I decided on the blue cheese burger with French fries. The burger was very juicy, and the blue cheese was almost like a condiment on there. Very delicious!! For dessert I got the fried apple pie that was also very tasty. I will definitely be back to make my way through the other menu items.

Oxtails, macaroni and cheese, and cabbage & kale

I found a great way to enjoy a beautiful Sunday by getting a Soul Food Sunday meal from Refined to Go. Bookmarked for months but worth the wait. I follow them on FB and saw the menu and knew I had to try the Oxtails. I've never had oxtails but I had a feeling I would enjoy them and I did!!! Tender, flavorful meat, and nice portion. My meal also included cabbage & kale (loved the two together), macaroni and cheese (nice noodle to cheese ratio), fried okra (I normally ask for extra crisp, I didn't have to, fried just like I prefer), and banana pudding (with actual bananas, nice ending to my meal). This also turned into Soul Food Monday as I had enough for another meal. Oh and customer service is awesome, pleasant attitudes and very helpful!!! I will definitely try them again for their regular weekly menu!!!

braised short ribs, blackened salmon, Brussels sprouts salad

You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! My mom and I shared the Brussel sprout salad, braised short ribs and the blackened salmon, the portions are generous and the food was some of the best I've ever had. Chef James was so kind and is extremely talented. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! We'll be back!

    Pork chop over risotto!

This place is awesome! I got the lemon-pepper catfish & pork chop with risotto and all the food was so flavorful. You can tell that the Chef puts his heart and soul into soul into all of his food! I highly recommend you try!

This new take out recently opened in Helena. They have take out only, and are open very limited hours; currently only on Sundays. The menu changes periodically. This is a gourmet take our restaurant. Everything we have gotten is excellent! We've had the shrimp and grits, braised beef tips with sweet potatoes, and the panko crusted chicken with mashed potatoes. The dinners are excellent value for the money. I'd expect to pay $30 a plate in a sit down restaurant for meals of this quality. They get busy at 4:30 right before they close, so don't wait until 4:50 to place tour order!

Service was fast and friendly. We didn't realize this was ethnic food and it just wasn't our cup of tea.

Nothing too fancy, just hop in line, tell them what you'll have and they plate it up and bring your drink to you at the table. Everything looked pretty good. Meatloaf, grilled chicken, some greens, potatoes, mac and cheese, etc. I went with the country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy with mac and cheese. It was the middle of lunchtime to everything was hot and fresh, and the white gravy was really good. They didn't have many desserts, just slices of cake by the register and by the time I saw those I was full and it was too late to make the bad decision to stuff myself with dessert. The people were friendly, the place was clean and tidy and the food was served in large portions especially given the price. If you're hungry and near this part of town, don't think twice. Head in and they'll hook you up with some gravy covered goodness and they'll do it for around 10 bucks. Not bad at all.

It taste bland, like I was eating noodles and cheese but no cheesy taste or flavor. The chicken was seasoned great. The dressing was good but I've had better. Only concern was I asked for Champy's sauce with the tender basket, looked at it in the parking lot and noticed it looked like their honey mustard instead. Tried it, confirmed it tasted like honey mustard, then went inside with my receipt asking for it to be switched for Champy's sauce. Spoke to a waitress (not the one who helped us at drive thru) and I explained that I wanted Champy's sauce. She said "uh huh" confused and I held up what I had saying it tasted like honey mustard. She said yes Champy's sauce is honey mustard based. I told her I've been to (and worked as a teenager) at Champy's before in Tennessee and the color was more yellow than the orange I'm used to (like they added too much honey mustard) and again it tasted exactly like honey mustard. She explained that the Champy's sauce (and red heat) recipe was different at their location. I took her answer and left. Not sure if I indeed had honey mustard (they come in the same containers) and she didn't want to double check or if their Champy's sauce recipe really is just primarily honey mustard. I think the people of Alabama are missing out though on the champys sauce from the original location in Chattanooga, not sure why there is so much variation between locations. Other than that, everything was great!
