Had an absolute BLAST here last Saturday night with my kink group! :D This place offers rentals for parties/private viewings and we'd reserved it for three hours from 8-11pm. The pricing is per hour, not per head, which was awesome for us, as we pretty much packed the joint to capacity, LOL. The employees were very helpful bringing additional chairs out of the back so everyone would have somewhere to sit for the movie. Our Blu-ray disc was being a little wonky about playing properly, but thankfully their PS4 projector also had every streaming service imaginable, so we were able to watch the film we wanted through one of those. Whew! Thank goodness for back-up plans! The owner, Mike, was friendly and welcoming, and he even gave us a little mini tour/demo of how they make all their popcorn there at the store. If you're there, say hi to "New Betsy" and "Old Betsy" lol. Apparently this place recently celebrated it's 15th anniversary! One can only imagine how much popcorn they've popped volumetrically in that time. :o Anyway, Mike ensured our needs were met while we were there, which was great. Of course some of us purchased concessions to consume while watching. Kindly, the place does allow you to bring your own snacks and beverages if you've secured a rental! But where else are you gonna get Funfetti or Dill Pickle popcorn? Apparently this place boasts around 50 flavors, be they savory, candied, or specialty. Wowzer! Gonna take you awhile if you want to try 'em all. You can buy bags ranging in size from "snack" to "Xtra Large" or get them in tins. They also have this neat deal where you can buy a special bucket to get refills for 50% off for life! Whoa! Clearly I need to take my mom here, as she's a popcorn aficionado. B) I also appreciated the décor in the place. Lots of fun stuff on the walls to look at that have that movie theatre vibe. Even an old arcade cabinet! There's a photo op spot too we actually utilized to take some old-school Polaroid shots, hehe. There is a small, somewhat run-down bathroom doubling as a storage closet in the back right of the establishment. Hey, it worked fine! As long as I could take a quick pee break-- my bladder never manages to make it all the way through a movie, LOL. Man I was just here for a a get together just a little while ago and I have to say that owner Mike Peel who met us at the door was amazing. He has such an atmosphere of hospitality and consideration. He hosted us after hours and made sure we all had an amazing time at his theatre event. I visited Reel Popcorn about two years or so ago and was not at all impressed. The popcorn tasted stale and definitely lackluster in the flavor department. However, I was super craving popcorn yesterday (!!) and I had Reel popcorn delivered. Oh my goodness it's so good. I'm glad I tried them again. We got three savory flavors -- kill dill (a mix of salt and vinegar and dill) and cheese punk (cheddar, white cheddar, and a third cheese) and pizza. Each one was so good. They use coconut oil and their popcorn tastes very light, fresh and flavorful. We also got cookies and cream, ranch, and Austin mix but I have not tried those yet. I didn't love the popcorn last time. There was something about the caramel that was a little off...a little sour or something. My kids loved it though! We got cinnamon roll, caramel and cheese. It was close to my house and right next to where we were having dinner. The smell was enticing. We went in...cricket...cricket...where is everyone? We walked up to the counter and were still hearing the chirping. Awkward. A few minutes later and two kids calling out HELLO ANYBODY HERE a girl came out from the back. She obviously didn't want to be there and increasingly neither did we. We asked a few questions about the different combos (no samples offered) and just let the kids pick out a small bag each. Everything looked good but $$$. We haven't been back since. I've also gotten cotton candy from here. The people who work here are really nice too. PS. I paid a visit to the shop after that, where there are tons of samples and you can mix and match your flavors. I love the "Kill Dill" and the "Loaded Baked Potato" combos. And for sweet...you cannot go wrong with "Salted Chocolate Caramel." That stuff is heavenly and I'm craving it all the time! A snack size bag will fill me up and is $4-6, depending on the variety. Popcorn is one of my favorite quasi-foodstuffs. I'm not a fan of the popcorn at most theaters (except the Alamo). I found Reel Popcorn at the shelves of the Live Oak Market. Thought I would check out the place where they have ALL of the flavors on far S. Congress. I was able to sample a bunch of different flavors - green apple, blueberry as well as the retro-trad white cheddar, dill, and buttery. Have to say that dill is my favorite now. So, for my 300th review I give Reel Popcorn 4 stars for overall deliciousness and in bringing cool stuff to eat to Austin. read more

We stopped by today for a snack after visiting the Knittjng Nest next door. It smelled sooooo good when we walked in. The man who greeted and helped us was very friendly. I ordered a small bag of a cheese mixture ($3.50), and my husband ordered a combination of caramel and cheddar bacon (I know, gross) (also $3.50, I believe). While waiting for our order to be filled a woman came up to the counter and offered us a free bag of cherry/black cherry popcorn. Which worked out well as to balance out our savory popcorn with sweet =) She also offered us a sample of the special...something with salted caramel and chocolate. My husband and I were both happy with all of the popcorn we purchased. My cheesy popcorn was really good, but I'm fairly certain that some cheddar bacon ended up in my bag. Was not a fan of that flavor. Maybe I am mistaken and it was supposed to be in there. My husband really liked both of his flavors, and the cherry popcorn was really good, too. We go by this place all the time. Their popcorn is excellent! And there's a whole bunch to choose from. My family is addicted to it! Buffalo Wing seems to be the favorite around here. If you get the big tub of popcorn you get 50% off on all future refills. That's quite a deal! So whether you get some just for the movie tonight or just as a snack for your friends for the big game or as a gift for mom or love one you can't go wrong! We are trying to do kinds of popcorn each time I go in. My wife and my son love it the most so far. The very friendly lady there explained the system to me - there are different tiers as far as cost, size, and complexity of popcorns; they can mix basically any flavors together. Some of the flavors are completely ridiculous... bacon cheddar? Coconut curry? Loaded potato? Sign me up... If you're a purist, you can also find standard fare like cheddar, or caramel. So first trip bought a bag of popcorn ...had to hold myself back but during this COVID-19 and staying at home BOUGHT A TIN (medium - need to have control) and now I find myself wanting to fill up twice a week -I need control. I have a favorite and well I stick to that so far. Before COVID-19 you could try sample at the sample stand which made me want to get something else but I am a Chicago mix die hard. (At home my butter popcorn is sprinkle with either Cholula lime chili sauce or lemon sprinkles if ever sample something close to that their store, Chicago mix may be left at the store). The BEST popcorn shop in the Austin area. I've tried most of their flavors and haven't had a bad one yet! I'd highly recommend going in, getting a large bag of wasabi ranch, and chilling out to one of the great movies that they play in their lobby. If you can't do that, you can find them in a few stores here and there if you're lucky enough. I had a rather difficult time finding the location, as the website offered no help except for a physical address. Yes, I know you are located in a GINORMOUS shopping center, but where the hell are you near? (Right besides Amy's Ice Cream.) I walked in, waiting to be wowed. The young girl working the store jumps up off the couch with her young male companion. Oh did I interrupt? Strike one. I had to practically beg her to give me information on flavors. Is this all your options? Have you got the 50 flavors up yet? What is your favorite? YOU work here. HELP me. She did mention that the salt and vinegar tasted just like salt and vinegar chips. wow. thanks. She also failed to offer a sample tasting. Strike two. I ended up buying 2 snack sizes of honey mustard and dill. I was under the $5 credit card limit and she did let me slide. One star. So I dug into my popcorn during the drive home. I really wanted to be impressed, because I would tolerate the crap service if I could find the perfect dill popcorn closer to home. Sadly, it was not to be. The dill and honey mustard were very powdery. I did taste the resemblance to the flavors, but it wasn't spot on. I asked the darling husband to try both flavors and guess what they were. They've got a lot of "new business" kinks to work out, including training employees to be nice and smile and ask if you need help. We walked in and things seemed a bit of a mess. There was one very young woman behind the counter, sort of just standing there. There were several people crowded by the register, obviously trying to figure out what was going on or what to do or even how to order. I tried to be chipper and ask her favorite, but she even seemed a little confused. Finally someone else came back and helped out. Things were still a bit of a cluster----, and I almost walked out (to return later on). I had seen Carrie W's review, but I wish I would have remembered that she said the caramel tasted burnt--that's the exact same thing I said. I mean, I know caramel is basically burnt sugar, but it wasn't awesome. What was awesome was the white chocolate pretzel stuff. Perfect salt and sweet together. The popcorn almost tasted a bit stale, but I guess it's the stuff that goes on it that counts. They say that they'll soon have 50 flavors. I don't know how that will work out--there's still a lot they need to figure out. If they want to survive, especially in that location, they've got some stuff--including customer service--to figure out. read more

I like to believe that if I were a dictator that I'd be a benevolent one. Since I am not (as yet) a dictator, I shall be a benevolent Yelper. Some of you might recall the mighty Popcorn War of 2008. I shan't revisit it. It was painful for all involved. I will say this was the one negative review that I felt badly about. (the others stand, especially, YOU, Jiffy Lube!!) I wanted to return, but was afraid I'd be recognized and viciously pelted with popcorn. That could smart. I finally manned up today and re-entered the octagon. OMG, I'm so glad I did!!! A) The awesome lady behind the counter, as I already tipped you of to, was AWESOME. B) The popcorn YUMMY. I got the Caramel Pecan, Smores, and the Chocolate Banana Popcorn. I got the snack pack (more like snack for 5 days pack) of the first two and then got these adorable baby packs of the latter for a few girls in the office. I was so excited to find out that there was a local popcorn shop in 78745! I had tried The Popcorn Place near campus and fell in love with the Chicago Style popcorn (Cheddar and Caramel popcorn mixed together). Just as my addiction started to surge, they up and closed! So when I heard about Reel Popcorn in The Chronicle, I made plans to do my Christmas shopping at Southpark Meadows! It's a cute shop by the playground. I walked in and was greeted fairly quickly...I tasted the white chocolate pretzel (not my cup of tea) and I asked for a medium caramel and cheddar popcorn mixed up together...apparently, I was the 3rd person that day to ask for it. The woman at the counter was surprised it was a popular combo. She filled my bag....layering the popcorn rather than mixing it up...but, no biggie, I can mix later....and the charge for a medium bag was $7.99...Thier portions are pretty generous. Now comes the "Meh" part....it just doesn't taste as good as The Popcorn place.... The popcorn, in general, isn't horribly fluffy. The caramel has a bit too much of a burned flavor and all of the kernals are stuck together. The cheddar doesn't really taste cheesy...more chemical. I was soooo disappointed! I had been looking forward to cracking open that bag of popcorn all afternoon and the taste really was a let down. I haven't sampled the other flavors...but if the cheese and caramel are any indication, they really should try another flavoring vendor. read more
