We did the turtle tour with Jimmy and it was an amazing experience! He gave us a primer on all the different kinds of fish we'd be seeing and a little history of the area. And then prepped us with safety instructions and some cool tips on how to keep your goggles fog free. We saw a ton of fish and several turtles that swam so close! I felt completely safe the whole time and had so much fun! Jimmy also dove down and got some great shots on his underwater camera. Boyfriend and I booked our very first snorkel tour right at the beginning of summer. As first timers, we were very comfortable going in the water because the crew made us feel at home. They were looking out for us and making sure we had a great time while staying mindful of our safety. All equipment is provided. My girlfriend and I came to Kaua. It was her first trip to Hawaii and much needed vacation. She booked a tour with the Reef Guides, and the only time and day that worked was the day before we were to leave. We got a call the day before the trip that Reef Guides could not do the tour because only one person (my friend) had booked the snorkel tour. My husband and I attended Reef Guide's program while on the north shore of Kaua'i. It was money well spent. We were able to learn from a marine biologist and ecologist how coral reefs are formed and the ecosystem they support, had step-by-step snorkel instructions, snorkeled with fish, turtles, eels and even a shark, and participated in a marine life census and survey of the reef. This is going to be long and I am sorry for that now. The only pro about this place is that if, if you have never snorkeled before, never been in the ocean, do not know different types of fish or coral and are looking to see turtles, and are not willing to go on a boat this may be the trip for you. As for my friends and I this is a complete and total rip off. Part of it our resorts fault for scheduling this tour without telling us how much it would cost, but more so that Steve would not work with us when we seen what the price was. He said we couldn't cancel the trip because lunch was already booked, witch is funny because he ended up canceling the lunch anyways. To this day I still don't think anyone could get a hold of Steve but 1 time. the regular price for this trip was $119.00 with our resort discount it went down to $92.00, we went from a 4 and a half hour trip to a 2 hour trip witch still ended up being $88.00 per person and no kid discount. We paid more for this trip then we did for Capt. Andy's Catamaran. AGAIN RIP OFF There is NO way I would have paid anything more than maybe $35.00 for this trip at the most. The bad thing about this is that the guy could have cared less not understanding that money we ended up spending for this trip was our friends Xmas money for there family. My boyfriend and I have already been on this island and knew of this snorkel place and wanted to share our experience with our friends. We only needed 3 snorkel gears as for my boyfriend and I had ours. Once we got there we filled out some paper work and was handed a fish guide that only had about 20 fish on it. The tour guide went through the fish pretty quickly and on some of them could not even tell us why some of them had the hooks or horns on them. He also went by the fish he had seen in this area. So nothing against the tour guide as I know this was his job, but he seemed on the inexperienced side. There was another couple in our group. The gentlemen had his own snorkel/dive gear and the lady ended up being on a paddle board with a window in it, getting pulled by the tour guide the whole time. We waited for the tour guide to get in the water before us, and we ended up leaving him behind with the lady after 20 minutes of waiting on him and went snorkeling on our own. We all pretty much got ignored the whole time we were in the water, we ended up taking our friends and there 11 year old son out and showing him the turtles and fish that were around. Stay away from this guy if you don't want to loose a ton of money, and his website sounds all nice and dandy but it is nothing like the tour we got. Save your money for something else. read more

This was my third and my wife's fourth with Craig. Needless to say we are satisfied customers. Each trip has varied in size, form 4 to about 10. We have gone twice to Anini Beach, once to the St. Regis and my wife went once to Koloa Landing on the South Shore, as we were there in later October and the North Shore beaches were not good for snorkeling. Each trip has been a good experience. Craig is an incredibly knowledgeable marine biologist and I have learned new and interesting things about Kauai's marine environment each trip. He answers every question in a clear and understandable way. I should state that we are experienced snorkelers, and his guidance has continued to grow our knowledge, comfort and abilities in the water. We have seen him in action with first-time snorkelers, handicapped snorkelers, and those with experience. He manages to have something for everyone. For those anxious about trying snorkeling, Craig is great. He is certified in water rescue and places a huge emphasis on comfort and safety. That being said, you have to be willing to speak up and let him know what you need. He's good, but not a mind-reader! He does keep an eye out for everyone, and there is a float always available for resting and asking questions. The amount and type of fish you will see depends on the weather and ocean conditions, which is why the actual location will change. We have seen turtles on every trip, rays, fish (from inch long babies to some 2 feet) and beautiful coral. You are in the water for at least an hour. During the trip Craig takes pictures of you (especially with the turtles) and after the trip weaves them together with many of his collection, and you can purchase them after the trip for download when you get home. His equipment (included) is good quality, and he even has masks for those who wear glasses. He supplies rash shirts for sun protection. Find Craig and snorkel...it'll be a good day. read more

Danielle gave my 9 y.o. And I a private tour and she was outstanding. She loves the ocean and is very knowledgable, and was also very attentive, patient and safe. My daughter freaked out a bit and she was very reassuring and was happy to have her stay on top of the board the whole time. We are not very ocean savvy and she made sure we were able to get in and out of the ocean easily and safely, and went out of her way to show us tons of fish. She was passionate about her job and made it a truly special adventure. I can't imagine being able to see and do what we did without her help. read more

I am writing this review on August 12, 2016. I had this amazing experience with reef guides of Princeton HI at the St Regis Hotel, not only is this hotel an icon of Kauai, the educational and accommodating tour was exceptional. Craig and Danielle go the extra mile to introduce first time snorkelers to the ocean and reef. Confident swimmers can move out with Craig while others needing more assistant follow behind on a large boogie board. I must give Danielle kudos when she encouraged a first time swimmer out of a panic attack to move on into the deep waters of the reef. I could go on and on about this experience but I suggest you try it for yourself. read more

Husband and I went this morning, August 9, 2016. It was the most amazing experience! The actual owner was our guide. Made sure the experience was fun, that all members felt safe and comfortable - no matter their water experience or snorkel experience. Wow, what a great excursion!!! We had also done the fancy Napoli coast boat tour and the snorkeling was a major disappointment. They just kind of threw you in the water without too much help. Several people got stung by jellyfish too! This smaller and more personal excursion was a far better value! Craig was our main guide, along with his friend (he had glasses and was amazing but can't remember his name? Jimmy?) They were very informative and VERY attentive. They made sure our equipment was comfortable and top notch to experience the best tour. The weather was marginal, so they called the day before to try and reschedule...I think this shows that they care more about your experience than just taking your money. Unfortunately, it was scheduled our last day...so we went and the weather turned out great. They really took the time to cater to us, especially me, since I get skiddish in the water. I had a fantastic time and felt completely comfortable with them by my side. We saw several fish and even a few turtles. You can truly tell they are passionate about what they do. The best part??? My husband dropped his go pro camera in the middle of the ocean and Craig took the time to find it!!!! What a stellar guy!!! If you are looking for a great time for a great value, this is the place to go! We went snorkeling with Reef Guides at Koloa Landing, and it was a most memorable experience. Craig (owner and guide) gave us an excellent session teaching us about the reefs and their inhabitants, and the relationships between them all. This made the snorkeling that followed so much more fun! We then set off with excellent gear including rash guards, snorkels and fins and had a complete blast. We saw many fish that we had learned about from Craig, and many more that he told us about while we were in the water. We also saw multiple turtles, and Craig went to great efforts to take sweet underwater photos of us swimming with the turtles. Yes, Christmas Cards, here we come! I have a background in marine science, and so I had a million questions when we got out of the water. Craig went out of his way to take extra time with us, answering all my questions. He was very gracious and met my enthusiasm with his own! Our lunch was delicious and in a most beautiful setting with an open ocean view. We loved it so much that we decided to return to that restaurant another time on a different day. All and all I would highly recommend this trip for you and your family! The intro sessions that Craig does at the resorts are most informative as well. He is doing great work to educate people about our oceans and the coral reefs in particular.
